X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

X-Men: First Class was directed by Matthew Vaughn ("Kick-Ass"), from a screenplay written by Ashley Edward Miller, Zack Stentz, Jane Goldman, and Matthew Vaughn. The cast included: James McAvoy as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr/Magneto, Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkholme/Mystique, January Jones as Emma Frost, Nicholas Hoult as Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy/Beast, Zoë Kravitz as Angel Salvadore, Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy/Banshee and Lucas Till as Alex Summers/Havok. It earned $353 million at the worldwide box office, on a budget of $150 million.

Pretty sure we should just not post any more articles for today. Everything's going to feel much less important/exciting after Batfleck's suit and Batmobile reveal haha.

I thought it was a solid 3/5... Xavier and Magneto casting was ideal and Jennifer Lawrence is incredible.

I loved this movie. It probably wasn't the X-Men film many fans were looking for, but they completely nailed the characters: maybe not their comic-accurate powers or levels of importance or their suits or origins or whatever, but their relationships with each other, their character arcs, their general interactions, etc.

First Class was going to be an X-Men Origins: Magneto movie, then it was going to be a complete reboot, then they decided to tie it into the rest of the universe. With all that production trouble in mind, it was pretty unavoidable that it would feel a little disjointed. But the heart of the movie was Erik and Charles' friendship, and it was fantastic IMO.

If you're gonna film the exact same sequence as the opening of the first X-Men film, yet make it worse in every possible way, why even spend the bucks on producing it in the first place when all you need to do is take the better cut from the first film and paste it in the new movie. And if Matthew Vaughn's answer to that is "artistic integrity", he needs a slap in the face.

Me being a big Bacon fan, i was expecting a Heath Ledgeresque performance and he ended up giving us Cesar Romero. Jones was so bad she made Emma from Origins look like an oscar winner having no lines. And that godawful mutant search montage was cringe inducing to the ninth degree. How are the 80ies filled to the brim with blueprints for perfect montages and Vaughn ends up puking all over the place and calling it filmworthy, i'll never know. I guess the opening sequence wasn't a fluke. Let's not forget the murder of the best mutant they had which technically shouldn't have died given his mutant power essentially boiling down to NOT DYING and all his canon fodder teammates that were just as well developped as the furniture they sat on in the mansion. And finally, Prof-X, Beast and Mystique were an absolute bore. But all that's okay because the movie was really just about the missile crisis all along.

Seriously, the greatest mystery of all is why Fassbender ever signed up to it in the first place. Fox sure can count its lucky stars, pun intended.

I know I'm going to catch hell for this but First Class was AWFUL!
The only good things about it were Bacon and Fassbender.

It had a bunch of disposable mutants and a weak narrative that was at times extremely goofy.

Emma was a BIG disappointment, and the 'First Class' were so poorly used. Darwin, Banshee Housefly and Havoc were extras. It was like they had no plans to use them again beyond that film so I'm surprised Havoc is back. It's not like we got to know anything about him.

I seriously think January got the role based on something other than talent.
Who was the baby-daddy, BTW?

Yeah, MAGNETO was awesome... that's why they should have made a MAGNETO ORIGINS movie what they planned, oh well, movie wasn't bad just a bad X-Men movie comic-wise unfortunately...
