In an interview with Metro US Michael Fassbender speaks about what we can expect to see from Eric Lensher's past in Mathew Vaughn's X prequel..

When asked what we will be seeing of Magento's past..

"You will see a little bit of that, yeah, at the beginning but I thought what was interesting was what happened to him after the war – he gets that young gypsy girl out of the concentration camp that he falls in love with. They take off together and have a baby and the mob ends up going crazy and burning down the house and the child dies in the blaze. Magneto goes ape shit and kills everybody. She’s freaked out and leaves him. So by the time we get to him in the movie, he’s a bit of a loner, really."

Fassbender also reiterates that he will be playing this role (along with James McCavoy as Charles Xavier)as was always originally intended for the characters. One mirroring Malcolm X, and the other Martin Luther King..

"It’s kind of like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X — Charles [Professor X] being Martin Luther and Erik [Magneto] being Malcolm X — these two ideals, two intelligent guys but with different methods of achieving what they want. Erik doesn’t trust humans and thinks they need to be wiped away and I can kind of see his point. It’s like Homo Sapiens, Neanderthals … it’s like it’s the next stage of evolution. And humans have made a bit of balls of it. We have, haven’t we?"

When asked about how he will feel about being recognized wherever he goes after the movie Fassbender responds by recognizing that Fox's last two X movies left a lot to be desired in the eyes of many fans..

"It’s going to be an interesting thing. There are so many X-Men fans out there. Hopefully, they’re going to be happy. They didn’t seem to be happy with the last two installments so hopefully this will please them again."

"thought he said in an earlier interview that we wouldnt see his fam being murdered in this movie..that he only used that info 4 development...???"

In this article, it sounds like he's just recounting what happened in the comics. He's saying he finds it interesting, he's not saying that's actually in the movie.

Havok89
Havok89 - 2/15/2011, 11:09 AM
The problem with X-Men The Last Stand was that they had some crappy cookie cutter plot and concentrated more on what mutants can do and not on who mutants are.
It was overflooded by loads of useless mutants who had no character development, served no purpose to the story and were only there to show off their powers and to make fanboys happy.

For example:

Psylocke (showed up, joined magneto, said few lines, died)

Juggernaut (showed up, said some cheesy lines, got beaten up by wolverine, knocked himself out by running into a wall)

Angel (had a cameo as a kid, said some lines, escaped from "curing" by flying away, flew to x-mansion, saved his father, flew away)

Archlight (did...something...)

Multiple Man (showed up, joined magneto, let himself get arrested)

Most of mutants who were introduced in X-Men and X2 didn't get any serious character development they needed and were just killed off or "cured"

Not to mention most of mutants had some stupid made up powers and didn't resemble their characters.

WundaJigga
WundaJigga - 2/15/2011, 11:29 AM
Quicksilver was seen running around a cage at the end of XOW, but he was never named. He could easily be passed off as another speedster. His "Nephew" Speed resembles him and we know FOX doesn't care about actual continuity
Havok89
Havok89 - 2/15/2011, 11:34 AM
If they will ever do X-Men 4, they should treat it as a sequel to X-Men 2 and completely ignore X-Men The Last Stand.
In short..X-MEN 4 should be true X-MEN 3!

If X-4 aka true X-3 will get released in let's say 2017 there will have to be recasts, but [frick] it!
It is the only way to keep X-Men film franchise alive til at least 2030.

Gauntlet
Gauntlet - 2/15/2011, 11:43 AM
Intruder, is there a copy of the list of characters Fox has floating around for us to see? I sure as hell hope Scarlet Witch is with Marvel and not Fox.

The problem is, in X2 when Mystique wass hacking into Strykers file as Lady Deathstrike, there is a list mutants in there and one listing says:

Maximoff (2)

I took that as being Wanda and Peitro

@Havok89 nice idea but lets hope marvel studios get the right back
Havok89
Havok89 - 2/15/2011, 11:54 AM
@Exiles

It's something I'm definitely hoping for;)
But if FOX keeps the rights I hope that they will finally get their heads out of their asses, realise that X-Men The Last Stand was a massive fail and give fans REAL X-MEN 3.

Even if it means no Jackman, no Stewart and no Ian McKellen.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 2/15/2011, 11:56 AM
Okay folks, Magneto and Magda's firstborn child, Anya, died in the exact fashion Mr. Fassbender states above. When Mag's lay waste to the town and mob for the crime, Magda freaks and leaves him, whilst pregnant with Wanda and Pietro. I hope this is featured in the movie, it would go a long way to explain why Magneto is who he is.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 2/15/2011, 11:58 AM
Intruder, yea bud but look at that list in X2 again, all the names on it are allusions to characters. If the Maximoff's aren't those mutants on the list, then it would be the only names on it not pertaining to existing comic characters, and seriously, what other 2 Maximoff's would it be.
ManThing
ManThing - 2/15/2011, 12:03 PM
wow.. So it tells the story of how Magda left him because she was terrified of his power. That's cool. Good research on someone's part.

This treatment of Magneto in this movie seems to be one of it's strong points.
GrimeKid
GrimeKid - 2/15/2011, 12:05 PM
@RorMachine

The interview in question was the Fassbender commentary on the trailer btw.

And yeah I think Fassbender is just using that tale in Erik's past as a way of understanding Magneto's motivation for doing bad shit
Havok89
Havok89 - 2/15/2011, 12:10 PM
By 2017 and after this new (potential trilogy) of prequels, no one from general public will even remember that there was X-Men The Last Stand.

And re-do of X-MEN 3 (no matter how ridiculous it may sound) is the only way to save X-men film franchise, and only way to move on to bigger and more epic stuff (Shiar, Apocalypse, Days of The Future Past)
Yasn7
Yasn7 - 2/15/2011, 12:37 PM
At first I liked the first two films but after watching them over again I really didnt care much for them. The third was terrible and origins was ok at best (worst cgi claws ever).
This however gives me hope that the X-men will have some dignity on film. Sucks that there is no cyclops but whatever cant be helped at this point. Im sure Vaughn will do a good job. Kick Ass was amazing and done on a relatively low budget compared to other action/blockbuster films.

Fox does own the rights to ALL Mutants. That is a fact. Exiles knows his stuff. Hopefully she is preg with twins when she flees. Idk if they will show it in the movie though. If you need further proof regarding who owns the rights to wanda and pietro look at X2. Pietro Maximoff was one of the names in stykers computer. They would not be allowed to do that if they didn't have the rights.
