Schwartz Says He Won't Direct X-Men: First Class

X-Men: First Class, one of many X-Men sequels hinging on X-Men Origins: Wolverine's success, will be written by Gossip Girl/Chuck producer/writer Josh Schwartz, but he won't direct.

"I would be terrified to have the first thing I direct be a giant franchise movie," Schwartz told MTV at New York's Comic-Con, adding that there was no truth to him turning down the directing job.

As for the movie's plot Schwartz said: "I'm not really allowed to say anything. They're watching me as we speak. It's exciting, it's a huge honor and we're just getting started."

Figures... I finally hear some new news about the "First Class" movie, and it's a no-new-news report.
Figures.

"Please, Heavenly Father (Stan), if you're listening... Please make this about the original X-Men class (Angel, Iceman, Cyclops, Beast, & Marvel Girl), and not some New Mutants/New X-men/Generation X mix-mosh!"
Amen

Original X-MEN would be cool, but it would confuse everyone now (the general public). I dunno, id rather see a X-FACTOR (what happened to that tv series?), or even better X-FORCE!!!! ; ) X-FORCE up against YOUNGBLOOD at the Box office heh heh! Whats happening more to the point with X-MEN 4 ???

Since they already introuced the original First Class team, hopefully this will be like some sort of Gen X/New Mutants/New X-Men combo.

Maybe that's why they're giving Emma that cameo in Wolverine.......

I agree LEE. I think Cable is due on the big screen. He should have had a small cameo in X3, like a video conference w/ Cyclops or something. I also think Bishop and Banshee are due. What they did with Psylocke was just sad as well...k done ranting for the moment.

Lol Bruno, and your right! New characters, instead of characters being rehashed,, its way too soon for an original X-MEN pic,, infact that's what they should've done 1st!! But ofcourse Wolvey woundn't be there then! Anyway X-FORCE!!!! ; )

Banshee is actually making a cameo in Wolverine.

And X-Force? Really? Maybe the Milligan series.....

i care about this and im pretty sure most xmen fans do too. they cant make x-4, you cant continue off of what they did in 3. plus i want new muties. Bishop would be so awesome to see on the big screen. and iceman, not iceboy

I'll admit Iceman was porrly done, but it's kinda late to fix that.

And since we probably won't see an X-4, maybe we could just have the various spinoffs made into movies. A Cable and Deadpool movie would rock.

Honestly, I just hope that they make it more character driven, and a little less chaotic than the last two X-Films.
I'm digging what I'm seeing with Wolverine so far, even with the addition of Gambit into the whole "Weapon X" program. I just cringe on the inside when I see a LOT of creative license taken with characters that I've held dear since adolescence!

Just please, please don't screw this up!

Torque... Completely agree!!!! I love Nova, and a New Warriors, or even just plain Warriors movie would be awesome! ("Warriors, come out and playeeeyaeee!") lol

Back then Jude Law would of been a GREAT Namor...Last rumor I heard about Jude Law was he was suppose to be ZOD in superman: MAn of Steel movie lol....that sure aint happening.

As for Xmen goes...I wish they started with First Class FIRST rather then the other flick they made.

Yeah, I understand that people were annoyed about the chabges to the team history, buy you can't have an X-Men movie without Wolverine.

If they do choose to do this movie picking up where X-3 left off, I just hope Ellen Page doesn't come back.

I hate her.

Heres what i think they should do

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/notyetamovie/news/?a=6019

As for the movies, well they could have used Wolvie and still had the original members with Xavier. Should have just used Ice man instead of Storm and added Beast and Angel..or if they felt that was too many characters just pretend Beast and Angel had left the team at the point Wolvie meets them, like X3 did with Beast..that way they could make this First class movie as a flashback to the original team..but im not too bothered, i liked the X movies regardless. But if they make another it would be good to see a story from the comics instead of a mishmash of what they think would work.

If they ever do X:Men First Class it would have to be a reboot of the Xmen franchise or at least have a 2nd generation of Xmen studying to become one.

But one thing's for sure is that there will always be fans that have something to complain about. Like if they use Bishop, they surely cant use to "chase Fitzroy in the past" plot and that would make other fans say "that's wrong! the movie sucks!"

If there are any fans who wants any Xmen movie to be true to the books, sorry but prepare for a life long agony of disappointments.

I think the title says it all: X-Men: First Class. I imagine this will be the original team (Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman, Angel, Prof X) but younger.

Some of you might think this is a waste of time, but if you look at another franchise that has done extremely well chronicling teens coping with their increasing powers, it can be done. That franchise: Harry Potter.

I'm not a fan of the Harry Potter books or movies but you can't argue with how they've handled those stories within the context of the kids "growing up." I definitely think they can do these characters justice and have a great reboot of the franchise.

The Studios now find it easier to go back in the story after a movie is succesful: Hannibal Lecter, The Star Wars Prequelogy of course, Wolverine, Magneto and this one, ..more examples?

That way toy EXPLOIT something YOU KNOW will work because the "previous formula" worked, and then they do a whole damn NEW movie.. just to get to the beginning of the Previous one... and not going forward (exceptions: Spider Man saga, FF saga and Ghost Rider) and the audiences get to go to see those anyway... Man, event FRIDAY THE 13th is having a new beginning TODAY!

If I'm not mistaken, I believe FOX is regarding the "origins" with Wolverine as the "X-Men 4" of the franchise.

X-Men: First Class, would be cool if they did the original team but I don't think they will. I think I once heard FOX had the initial idea that they would just grab a handful of mutants who were on the outskirts of the spotlight in the previous films. People like Jubilee, Kitty (even though she had a more solid role in X3) maybe the Stepford Cuckoos etc. and have the film about them, the younger ones.

Of course, I would like nothing better than to be proven wrong on that.

I think the title says it all: X-Men: First Class. I imagine this will be the "first class" to graduate from Xavier's school which would be (colossus, iceman, rogue, kitty pride, jubilee and angel). I believe the original x-men (storm, jean, beast and scott) were just "tenants" and accepted Xavier's help with their powers. I don't know if they were ACTUAL "students".

I'm sure they will revamp the "generation x" concept and continue on with the follow up of X-3 using the teen graduates as the "new team" and the old members as "teachers and coaches". It's gonna look like "x-men: evolution". And the movie will end with Xavier's return in the other guy's body from Moira's lab.

Even though i'm not up for a Gen-X movie, i would hate the hell out of ANOTHER [frick]ING ORIGIN MOVIE!!! Wolverine's gonna be good because it's wolverine and also his origins are mysterious and were a major part of the x-men movies. Hell Wolverine freakin MADE the x-men movies. It would've been Star wars without Luke Skywalker if he hadn't been in there.

Now Goyer's gonna write, direct and [frick] up all on his own (like a big boy), Xavier's and Magneto's Origins. His plot has no continuity what so ever with the existing movies. Last thing i wanna see is yet another ORIGINS movie with no logical continuity to go along with Goyer's turd!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/13/2009, 9:04 AM
Shaman surely you mean Star Wars without Han Solo! Yeah its definately not going to revamp the franchise in any way, it will prob be the X Teens you mentioned..although i couldnt care less about any of them in ther movie incarnations.

Actually roar, logan was single and the "main" hero in x-men. Just as Luke was in Star Wars. They just decided to switch the personnalities and gave the "douche" aspect of luke to Cyclops (which would be the Han of the x-men, importance wise) and gave Han's mojo to Logan. Much better don't ya find??? It's all in the mojo.

I say use Iceman, Shadowcat, Colossus, and Angel, like we were left with at the end of 3. Reboot's are only necessary if the whole franchise is worthless. X1 was a good movie for its part and X2 I enjoyed alot. X3 just raped one of the best story arcs in comic history. Any of you who have read the trilogy I made, they were made to carry on after X3. Since it's a Fox movie, they aren't going to reboot it no matter how much anyone begs. I really hope they just continue forward making Iceman, Shadowcat, Colossus, Angel, and Rogue(if she somehow gets her powers back) while still utilizing Storm and Wolverine. By no means make Wolverine integral to the story, he has his own solo movie, thats enough spotlight, but have him there. He's an X-Man. Introduce someone new like Emma Frost or Jubilee or bring Nightcrawler back. I want Gambit to be in a movie as an X-Man myself.

If they go the prequel route, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Beast are the mentioned originals set by the movie continuity. In the movies it's vague as to how many 1st year students there were. This gives us some decent freedoms to work with. Here is a good chance to drop in characters like Havok or Mimic.

Shaman: in X1 Xavier refers to Storm, Jean, and Cyke as being "among his first students" It wasn't til X3 that it was added that Beast was also one of the first. Like I said above though, that very phrase unlocks alot of possible character additions. A situation like that would be perfect for puting Havok in there. I'm with you on another Origin story for now though Shaman. First Class should move forward from X3 with the first successful group of full combat X-Men led by Storm and Wolverine. You can't do 2-3 origin storys and forget about the present. After Wolvie comes out do X4 and then try another origin story.

uproc - 2/27/2009, 10:51 AM
X-Men:First should not be a prequel. If any of you read the novelization of X3 and not just focus on the mistake of the movie you would agree that the X4 should focus on Iceman, Rouge, Colossus, Shadowcat, Angel and maybe one or two other noteworthy young mutants that are enrolled at the school. In the novel Rouge does not go through with the cure and as we saw after the end credits in the movie the cure was not permanent.

Ok I was pissed with what they did with Spike and Psylocke in X3! Spike was some big overgrown white man when he's supposed to be a black teenager and psylocke had powers that she wasn't even supposed to have! lol. I think they should redo these characters. And what do yall think of Samuel L. Jackson playing Bishop, huh? I think he'd be good. And personally I had Sharon Stone in my mind to play Emma Frost. Besides those two factors I have not had any problems with the movies. But in the next ones I would like to see some new mutants. Oh! And I think an Apocalypse movie would be really cool too! Personal opinion lol.
