Stop Bashing X-Men: First Class!

I know I'm gonna get murdered alive on this site for posting this but here goes...

Editorial Opinion

So, today I got on CBM to look at the news as usual and I click on the article about Bryan Singer's Update for X-Men First Class. Then I look at all of the comments and see all of the fanboys whining about no Cyclops and Jean Grey.

First off, the movie is not a reboot. It is a prequel to the 3 X-Men movies. It shows how Professor X met Magneto and how they became divided. It also takes place in the 60's meaning that Cyclops and Jean wouldn't even have been born yet! Now look, I'm not a fan of the Cyclops character at all, which is probably why I don't care about him not being in First Class but it's just impossible to have him in this movie as it would mess up the continuity. But who knows, maybe he'll be in the sequel (if there is one) if this film succeeds. Yes, there is also some continuity issues with Emma Frost as she was supposedly younger in Wolverine but they never called her Emma Frost in the movie so maybe it's not really supposed to be Emma Frost.

Now onto Bryan Singer.

Bryan Singer was originally supposed to direct X-Men: First Class and when I heard this, I was very excited for this movie as I love the 1st 2 X-Men films. Then he dropped out of the director's chair and Matthew Vaughn was hired. Nonetheless I was still excited for this film as Bryan Singer was still involved as producer and writing the story. Now I'm not exactly a fan of Singer, hell I even hate the film he made, Superman Returns. But his X-Men films were really good and had a certain tone to them (unlike Brett Ratner's). So yes, I can see if most of you don't like Singer because he apparently doesn't like to use Cyclops in the X-Men films and he's not a fan of reading comic books. But still, his X-Men films were great to me.

So, it seems that I am one of the few people on this site who is still excited and looking forward to seeing X-Men: First Class. I know most of you have been bashing this movie last night and today but I never bash a movie UNTIL I see it in the movie theater. I just can't believe that people would bash a movie before it has even begun filming and they haven't even seen it. Perhaps I will be wrong and will be joining the crowd of haters for this film after I see it on June 3rd, 2011, but all I know is that I will be seeing this movie and I am still excited for it.

I'm in the camp that's still on board.I haven't heard anything yet that discourages my enthusiasm. While I would have liked Scott and Jean, their absence certainly isn't going to make the movie worse.

Good director, good writer. good cast as well as a good collection of characters.

I loved the first two X-Films and I have faith in Vaughn and Singer. The cast doesn't seem bad and neither do the characters, I've always wanted to see Banshee on the big screen. Magneto is one of my favorite villains and I still can't get enough of him after 3 movies. It'll be very interesting to see him as a young man with the mental wounds of the Holocaust still wide open and more obvious. I have the impression that Vaughn will make this movie and act as if the events of X3 never happened, which is good in my book!

Dude seriously, do you even know who the FIRST CLASS X-MEN are???

And why in the hell have you got a PIC or the ORIGINAL TEAM as the very first PIC?!?

Why would you want an X-MEN FIRST CLASS with no FIRST CLASS? Hahahahhahaha!

OZY @ Yeah go and spend money on it so FOX can make more crap,,, don't spend money on it and maybe one day we'll have a real X-MEN movie by MARVEL! ; )

I'm still stoked for first class, the more I hear the better it sounds, great cast, director, writer. So what if it strays from the comic? It's staying true to the spirit of X-men if not the continuity. The movie may suck, it may rock. I don't know enough to make a decision either way. If you're not excited about it fine, don't see it. But for the love of god shut the hell up! You sound like fox anally raped your grandmothers while pouring sugar in your gas tanks. Just calm the fox down before you guys have a stroke. Relax, they can't screw the movie up more than they screwed up the comics (and they always seem to bounce back)

While I'm not on board for completely hating this film, there are elements of it that are jsut stupid...Emma Frost being one of them. The arguement of "That was just Emma in Wolverine" is just stupid. SHE TURNS INTO DIAMOND PEOPLE! Tell me again, what does Emma Frost do? I seem to be forgetting...

bleedthefreak
bleedthefreak - 8/21/2010, 5:01 PM
my problem is not that they changed the original team, as much as i would love to see them i have no hope of ever seeing them together on the big screen. I hate how they seem to just be picking mutants at random. And Havok is doomed to be [frick]ed over because if Scott isn't born yet how can havok be, it just tells you they are gonna do it wrong. I am a die hard x-men fan and they have characters in this film i haven't heard of. Plus the few characters i like that are in this movie will almost surely get screwed over. I mean look at who they choose half of them weren't around in the comics until years later. I dont hate change too much as i enjoyed every x-men movie to a certain degree but all this randomness makes it seem like they are picking shit out of a hat. But there is no doubt i will see this probably the day it comes out because i am a fan of the x-men i just wont have my hopes up of it being any good. But Ozy man if you want to see this fine by me and you did have a lot of balls posting this and your sticking to your guns so thats good

I am getting tired of people bashing Fox it is not their fault their movies r crappy it is the various film crews who make these movies and the first 2 X Men movies were great and I don't what anyone says about that I even liked the 3rd movie.

adamcawa - 8/21/2010, 5:02 PM
I still think if you take the mindset of Vaughan and totally discount X3 and Wolvie, then the continuity flaws can be totally erased.

For now I'm being optimistic because of a great director, proven producer, excellent young cast and potential for an excellent storyline/theme. Despite Kevin Bacon.

don't worry men we've still got thor, captain america & the green lantern to look forward to.

3/4 ain't bad.

marvel studios is the future.

fox had their chance with owning the rights to marvel biggest selling comic franchise.

& they failed, its time to pass the torch back.

I love Cyclops(Favorite X-Man),he needs to be in the First Class.

I would have no problem with this movie if it was named "Magneto" and if Havok/Emma Frost weren't in it. Then it wouldn't be false advertising.

Fox isn't going to give up the rights to X-men without a fight! That's one of thier major cash cows no matter how crappy the movie is. People will still flood to the theaters to watch the movies making Fox profit to further their b.s. of x-men movies. Personally, if you really look at it, NONE of the movies are faithful adaptions. By themself, they're good. However, they did what they did because they wanted to and they can get away with it. Plus making wolverine look like a whiney pre pubescent girl that has a crush on jean grey. It was cute for the first movie but come on!!!

Or else what? You're gonna cry? We have every right to bash it as much as you have to defend it. It's like saying, "BOO! You shouldn't bash this movie because I like it. WAAH! LEAVE BRITNEY ALONEEEEE! PLEEEEASE!" Chris Crocker all over again....

Go look at previous stories during and after the time of production of FOX CBMs, a good number of them focus on how FOX interfered during production.

I have to agree with this poster. The people complaining about "the line up being wrong" and "no Scott and Jean" are just [frick]ing stupid, I'm sorry to say, and they're missing the entire point of the X-Men. The only reason that Jean and Scott and Bobby are not in this is to keep the continuity of the first films intact, which people COMPLAINED ENDLESSLY about Wolverine screwing up.

If the movie is true to what X-Men is about, if it has a good cast and a cool story and an awesome director (like, say, the guy who directed Kick-Ass and [frick]ing Layer Cake?), there's really nothing to complain about unless you're a dumbass nitpicky fanboy.

I personally am excited for this because it's the first true SIlver Age Marvel Movie we will get.

1. Cyclops IS the X-Men and he has been the leader for quite some time.

2. In the movies that you love Cyclops is said to be among Prof. X first students...maybe he is the first...not sure if he stated "he was my first" but it was definitely implied Jean and Cyclops were his first.

3. In the 3rd movie when forming the X-Men Prof X and Magneto went to Jean's house

4. The idea of setting the time period in the 60s is a choice that lead to another bad choice(not having cyclops in the movie which leads to a complete deviation from not only the comics set story but also the movies)...stop it Fox!

5. Emma Frost used her diamond skin power in Wolverine's movie, it was Emma Frost, we aren't retards chewing on our arms and drooling on ourselves we understand the comics and we drew our conclusions, not only that but if we were to take a look at the credits who knows, the last name Frost might just be there(not sure find out for yourself).

6. I'm not one to start arguments over the internet, but honestly this article is wash, and to even prove my above "Cyclops IS the X-Men" point just look at your article...he is in both of your pictures and in every continuum as the field commander/leader of a team of X-Men or the entire group 90% of the time.

Sorry but I don't think any self respecting X-Men fan is even half way buying that "It may not be Emma Frost" BS.
adamcawa
adamcawa - 8/21/2010, 5:23 PM
@Dynamo I think you misinterpret Fox's importance in this whole thing. They're simply the company at the top that stands to make money. The producers and directors are responsible for story and if they convince Fox they're going to make money, Fox will let them do what they want. Vaughan and Singer are not attached to Wolverine 2, and thusly have decided (probably) to seperate themselves from that franchise and continuity.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 8/21/2010, 5:24 PM
I respect that you want to "wait and see" with this movie OZY, but the fact you're perfectly ok with the changes they're making (not to mention the ones they've made in the past) just shows you either dont care about the comics or know nothing about them. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and while I've already decided I wont enjoy this movie because of the blatant disrespect shown to the comic books, it's clear that you're willing to take anything thrown at you by the likes of Fox. And in all honesty, it's thanks to people like you who accept anything, and everything, that we're constantly given such shit movies.
havokface
havokface - 8/21/2010, 5:24 PM
I'm willing to bet that they are going to assume Emma Frost is the same Emma from the Wolverine film... I'm also willing to bet that Havok will have his original Black suit with the atom rings on his head... Or atleast a hollywood version of that suit.
