Shia Labeouf admits to "Dropping the ball" on Indiana Jones 4!

Shia seems to know what's wrong with Revenge of the fallen, but what about kingdom of the crystal skull?

During a press conference at the Cannes film festival while promoting Wall: Street: Money Never Sleeps, he let what he really thinks about Indiana Jones 4 fly, without holding anything back, he criticizes the movie, himself and the filmmakers. And he starts off with...

"I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished…If I was going to do it twice, my career was over. So this was fight-or-flight for me."

He then addressed the audience that helped contribute to the movies $780 million dollar box-office take and explains that he was not happy with the film.

"I think the audience is pretty intelligent. I think they know when you’ve made (slop). And I think if you don’t acknowledge it, then why do they trust you the next time you’re promoting a movie…We [Harrison Ford and LaBeouf] had major discussions. He wasn’t happy with it either. Look, the movie could have been updated. There was a reason it wasn’t universally accepted….We need to be able to satiate the appetite. I think we just misinterpreted what we were trying to satiate."

LaBeouf then criticizes himself even further bringing up the monkey swinging saying,

"You get to monkey-swinging and things like that and you can blame it on the writer and you can blame it on Steven [Spielberg, who directed]. But the actor’s job is to make it come alive and make it work, and I couldn’t do it. So that’s my fault. Simple."

So what would Spielberg think of what LaBeouf is saying about his film? He didn't seem to care, and he held his ground and opinion saying,

"I’ll probably get a call. But he needs to hear this. I love him. I love Steven. I have a relationship with Steven that supersedes our business work. And believe me, I talk to him often enough to know that I’m not out of line. And I would never disrespect the man. I think he’s a genius, and he’s given me my whole life. He’s done so much great work that there’s no need for him to feel vulnerable about one film. But when you drop the ball you drop the ball."

I love it when actors take responsibility for their mistakes when it comes to their work. And the fact that he did this with 2 of his blockbusters makes me like him even more. I always knew he had talent, but he could become one of my favorite actors this year.

Overkill on the guilt. Yeah, the whole movie was you...mmmNot. It wasn't that bad and it grossed $790 mil. Only cost 185 mil to make. Sounds like he just wants to do another.

Take responsibility... 2 years later. He acts like his one role ruined the entire movie. Get over yourself and calm down.

Yeah, that's better.

Hahahaha! "asshat"!

The movie was shit and I STILL want my money back.
But I give the kid credit for taking responsibility
on making Indie 4, the giant turd that it was. I think
the reason why he is blaming a lot on himself, is not
because he thinks his role or performance were so
detrimental to it's success, but rather because he would
probably want to keep working in the movie business. I'm
sure if he could really speak his mind, it would be more
along the lines of: "It was an iconic movie of my youth
and I could not pass on the opportunity. How was I to know
that they would make me and everyone else look like
total retards?"

he already mention about how bad TF 2 was.

Indiana Jones 4 was not bad cause of him it was bad cause of the shitty story line and what happen at the end.

it was the writing and directing of those movies that made them bad (although i dont dislike indy 4 that much). ive never liked or disliked lebouf. i think he has gotten lucky and had some choice roles come his way. but he put in his dues and has been acting a long time (as opposed to someone like worthington). he shouldnt take all the blame himself.

The story was a bit much at much at times, (aliens? vine swinging? really?) and there was too much usage of cgi to have that classic feel that the originals had, but Crystal Skull was at the very least, enjoyable.

There wasn't anything wrong with Shia's performance, but rather how they integrated his character, and many others into the story.

Give the kid some credit - he admits (in so many words) to being just another no-talent money whore (why else do you think he's making ANOTHER POS 'Transformers' film?). Don't be too hard on yourself kid, they should have stopped at 'The Last Crusade' (there's a reason why Connery probably didn't want to have anything to do with that last turd!).

Anyone noticing a pattern here? It's not a good thing when you have to come out and apologize for your movies. That's two flicks he's had to do that with now...just sayin.

the lame storyline and some of the ridiculous antics in the film (hiding in the fridge) aside, shia was the the WORST part of the movie. cant stand him. he plays the same character in EVERY SINGLE MOVIE he is in!!! no range. no appeal. no talent. why why why does he keep getting acting jobs????

i like both movies fairly well but here's my 2 cents anyways:

Indy 4:
i liked the idea of the Crystal Skulls. and as soon as i heard about it i knew there was going to be some sort of alien tie-in. there always has been with the crystal skulls. and the time period the movie was set in played a pivotal role in the film as that was around the time of the Roswell incident. it could have been a little more down to earth (esp. the ending) but overall i enjoyed it for it's entertainment value...but def. not the best indy movie.

Transformers 2:
Devastator having the giant wrecking balls for balls was [frick]ing cool...kiss my ass! megan fox needs less talk time and more skin showing. but overall it wasn't nearly as good as the first one was and i can only hope that the 3rd will pull the franchise out of the gutter that it repeatedly puts itself in (anyone remember Transformers: Beast Wars...epic fail).

as for Shia taking repsonsibility...good...finally someone in hollywood has enough common sense to know when they messed up and has the balls to admit it...i'll give him another chance...just don't [frick] it up again shia.

by the way...hiding in a lead lined fridge was what most people considered a way of shelter from radiation...my dad can remember having 2 lead lined fridges as well as a lead lined deep freezer just in case...and we've still got the deep freezer

@seanxvito but did your dad go flying miles in the air while hiding in one and survive?

guess i'm in the minority opinion that Indy 4 was pretty good, the worst of the 4, sure, but not unenjoyable to watch, either. It was definitely over the top with the fridge flying from the nuclear bomb site, and the very end, but they did try to keep it to the good qualities of the previous movies with the style of humor, it just didn't have the same result. And I don't understand peoples beef with the aliens concept, that's part of the real crystal skulls' mythology, and btw... didn't Indiana Jones found the arc de covenant, and the chalice of jesus, and hasn't he fought against people who had supernatural ability(like pulling hearts out of peoples chests), and watched spirits attack and kill people? so how exactly are aliens such a big stretch again? Apologizing for transformers 2, now that's a different story

Only if you like giant metal balls hanging from a monkey looking Devastator does not says I raped your childhood too. Then you have betrayed Sheba and will toss burning rocks at you.

im massive fan of indianna jones, i even went as far as to buy the young indi box sets,
i waited for years for the indi come abck and for it to have an alien plot rather the a religious one.

i thort it made a nice change, but it has to be a one of.

apart from the monkey swinging bit, i ahd no problem with shia, tho i wouldnt like to see him back tho, bring back short round!

I don't care what anybody else says, I enjoyed Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was a fun story and the aliens thing I thought was a cool twist on history. Plus its a fictional story about fictional charactors. Get over it and enjoy the damn fantacy for once. DAMN!!!!

Sure, your free to speak your minds and have your own opinions but honestly. You can stick Indy in a wooden barrel going over a waterfall covered in scorpians during nuclear fallout and yes, he would survive. Thats what makes indy a badass adventurer. So suck it!!!lol!

P.S. I love you all!

wolverinesfury@ I didn't find that fridge scene bad, either, i thought it was 'Snakes on a plane' kind of funny, actually...lol I agree with your opinion on that, a ton of other people seemed too pissed off about it, though. I liked Indy 4, it stuck to what made it good, but since we live in different times, I guess that style doesn't play out as well with folks, these days. Like I said b4, this guy has dealt with all kinds of supernatural/impossible scenarios and lived! ie: jumping out of an airplane in an air raft!, & then going over a huge ass waterfall in the same raft! If you can come out of that, not only alive, but with no injury, then surviving a nuclear blast in a refrigerator is no surprise to me...lol
