“Mad Max: Fury Road” – the fourth in the franchise’s history stars Tom Hardy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) in the title role of Max Rockatansky, alongside Oscar(R) winner Charlize Theron (“Monster”, “Prometheus”) as Imperator Furiosa.

According to Miller, “Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.”

“Mad Max: Fury Road” also stars Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: First Class”) as Nux; Hugh Keays-Byrne (“Mad Max,” “Sleeping Beauty”) as Immortan Joe; and Nathan Jones (“Conan the Barbarian”) as Rictus Erectus. Collectively known as The Wives, Zoe Kravitz (“X-Men: First Class”) plays Toast, Riley Keough (“Magic Mike”) is Capable, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”) is Splendid. They are joined by supermodel Abbey Lee Kershaw as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile, both of whom are making their big screen debuts. Also featured in the movie are Josh Helman as Slit, Jennifer Hagan as Miss Giddy, and singer/songwriter/performer iOTA as Coma-Doof Warrior. (via Collider)

If it's a reboot, then they need to show what made him go "Mad" in the first place, AKA his family being killed.

"I am the Nightrider. I'm a fuel injected suicide machine. I am the rocker, I am the roller, I am the out-of-controller!"

Without Gibson, who can still kick all the Expendables asses (except for Willis; they'd just shake hands and go their seperate ways), it's just not Mad Max.

@shhh,nope same characters just new people playing them, tom Hardys taking over for Mel Gibson. Borderlands was heavily influenced by mad max 2, the name scag, the visuals, mad Mel actually looks like lord Humungus

@killerkooljames

"Push me, shove you!"
"Oh, yeah? Says who?"

Agreed. Though I'm not Australian myself, I've been a fan of the trilogy since I was young. I really can't wait for this movie. The Mad Max trilogy is one of my favorite series.

Every post-apocalyptic setting that came out from the 80's and then on had the Mad Max trilogy as the main influence for their themes, from Fist Of The North Star to Fallout.

It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.”

This tells me that the film will be full of exaggeration, so technically Gibson is still mad max but as the story has been passed on people start to describe him as looking like Tom hardy :-)

@killerkooljames

I think you underestimate some of our reader base here. MANY of us have seen Max Max dozens of times.

Granted, some might have not discovered it till Road Warrior or Beyond Thunderdome, but these movies were heavily shown on cable for the last 25 years.

Not to mention it's Mel Gibson. He was famous for these before Lethal Weapon and pimp slapping bitches for TMZ :)
