Warner Bros. has released the first synopsis for George Miller's highly anticipated Furiosa (via SFFGazette.com), and it sheds some light on how the story will fit into the wider world of Mad Max.

We know the movie is a prequel telling the story of the title character we first met in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road (where she was played by Charlize Theron), but it sounds like Miller also plans to explore this world's mythology in a big way. That shouldn't come as a huge surprise, especially as the filmmaker has crafted an incredible world across the course of Mad Max (1979), The Road Warrior (1981), Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985), and Fury Road

While it's previously been revealed that Furiosa came from the Green Place of Many Mothers, the new synopsis suggests there's more to her past than just being taken by Immortan Joe. While it sounds like that will still be part of her story, it seems the young Furiosa - played by Anya Taylor Joy - finds herself in the midst of an epic war.

"As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus," it reads. "Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."

It's unclear who will play Immortan Joe in Furiosa, but the villain is clearly going to be key to this story. Tom Burke is a strong possibility, though, and we'd bet on Chris Hemsworth taking on the role of the Warlord Dementus. Needless to say, all signs point to this being another fascinating glimpse into the world of Mad Max, and quite possibly the first chapter in a new saga.

Shooting recently started on Furiosa, and it's set to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.

Also off topic; just watched Black Phone, loved it! Hollywood is gonna blow up the main kid in the next few years for sure. Like sometime soon we're gonna hear Disney nabbed him for some Marvel or Star Wars project

@DannRamm113 - Was it really good? Universal announced a house for The Black Phone for Halloween Horror Nights.

@GhostDog - Anya's eyes are about as big as the ones in that drawing, so maybe?

Would much prefer a continuation of Max’s storyline over a prequel to a side character, but that’s where Hollywood is today, spin-offs and prequels that are just lazy cash grabs

@MuadDib - did you even watch fury road? Max was like a side character in that film. Furiousa was much more interesting to watch.

@MarDCel - Agreed, Max has always been the vehicle the audience rides through the world and characters around him though. Fury Road was no different IMO and was kind of an evolution of that.

@MuadDib - After the many years-long hell that it was to make Fury Road, I don’t think you can call this production lazy. And since this is still Miller building on the franchise he started, the complaining just doesn’t seem apt here. I’d rather a Max story as well over this, but calling this lazy… it ain’t.

@MarDCel - Well, that's kind of the point of Mad Max though. He wanders into an already established conflict, helps out then moves on. He's not meant to be the most interesting character; what's interesting is the shit he encounters.

@MosquitoFarmer - Feel free to reread what I wrote, but Hollywood is lazy for just pushing out spin-offs etc. it’s not to say that the production of any given movie was done lazily. Relax.

@MarDCel - That was my issue with the movie. Didn’t care for the lack of Max, more Max is better in my opinion.

Everyone has their own opinion. What a crazy world we live in.

@MuadDib - I know what you wrote. And as I wrote, the complaining just doesn't seem apt here. And right back at you, especially since you're the one in the uproar, relax.

I’m definitely excited for this because ATJ is great and George Miller is back but I still wish we were getting a fury road sequel instead
