FANTASTIC FOUR Falls Out Of Top 10; MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE & TERMINATOR Dominate Overseas
Fantastic Four has slipped out of the Top 10, Terminator: Genisys continues to dominate in China, and Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is a top 3 film for the fifth week in a row!
Fantastic Four's unfantastic summer just keeps getting worse. After just four weeks in theaters, the Josh Trank-directed film has fallen out of the domestic box office Top 10 entirely, finishing 16th over the weekend with a collection of about $1.6 million stateside, bringing its domestic total to $52.6 million. Overseas, it didn't fare much better with a collection of only $6.8 million, bringing its international total to $93.5 million and its overall worldwide haul to just over $146.2 million. The critically panned film still has releases in Italy and Japan coming up, which could better its prospects, but it would probably be best to just starting looking ahead to the still-planned sequel.
Now, onto some more positive news... in its fifth weekend, Tom Cruise's critically acclaimed Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation continued its strong run with $8.3 million domestically and $15.3 million internationally; bringing its worldwide haul to over $479.3 million. The Chris McQuarrie-directed film still has one major release on its schedule: China and based on Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol's $100 million plus performance there in 2011, the IMF should continue its solid ride next weekend and for the foreseeable future.
Elsewhere, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator: Genisys, which also starred Emilia Clarke, continued to dominate the international box office with another strong weekend in China, bringing in $23.4 million, lifting its overseas total to over $320.1 million, and its global collection to over $409.4 million. With its solid international performance, things are starting to look better and better for the already announced 2017 and 2018 sequels.
Additionally, a handful of this summer's other major releases continued to perform well. Universal's Jurassic World, which starred Chris Pratt, finished #9 domestically with $3.1 million and also brought in $3.9 million overseas, slowly getting closer to passing $1 billion internationally. The monstrous worldwide sum for the Colin Trevorrow-directed film currently stands at $1.637 billion. Marvel's Ant-Man, which starred Paul Rudd, finished #10 with $3 million domestically and $1.5 million internationally for a worldwide total of $368.9 million. Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. finished #6 with $4.4 million domestically and $5.56 million internationally for a worldwide haul of $70.7 million.
With the IMF disbanded, and Ethan (Tom Cruise) out in the cold, the team now faces off against a network of highly skilled special agents, the Syndicate. These highly trained operatives are hellbent on creating a new world order through an escalating series of terrorist attacks. Ethan gathers his team and joins forces with disavowed British agent Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), who may or may not be a member of this rogue nation, as the group faces their most impossible mission yet.
