It Sounds Like There's A Fairly Good Chance Jeremy Renner Will Be Back For MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6

Considering Mission: Impossible 6 is still quite a while away, there's nothing official on this yet, but based on this Twitter exchange it sounds like we'll be seeing more of Billy Brandt!

A sequel to Paramount Pictures' Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation with Tom Cruise set to return was rumored to have been greenlit long before the critically acclaimed blockbuster ever hit theaters last summer and following the film's smashing success, both director Christopher McQuarrie and breakout star Rebecca Ferguson were signed on to rejoin Cruise for Mission: Impossible 6. Now, we have another familiar face that's likely to return for another impossible mission with Ethan Hunt and the IMF.

Earlier tonight, McQuarrie held one of his popular Q&A sessions on Twitter and as per usual, he was flooded with questions about Mission: Impossible 6, which he is currently in the midst of writing. Near the end of the session, one of his Rogue Nation stars, Jeremy Renner (Captain America: Civil War) chimed in with a query of his own: "Hey, is the band getting back together? Should I start stretching?" and McQuarrie replied with this: "Wear comfortable pants. You're gonna need 'em." It's a friendly exchange, but it sure sounds like Renner's "William Brandt" will more likely than not be back for another Mission when the film kicks off production later this year or early next year. Also, considering how Rogue Nation ended and that Renner was already signed on for at least one more Mission, it was probably always in the cards to bring back Brandt. Let's just hope his production schedule for Avengers: Infinity War, which is rumored to start late 2016/early 2017 and last for at least nine-to-twelve months, doesn't interfere with the production schedule of Mission: Impossible 6, so he can have a larger role this time around.

Check out the humorous exchange between Renner & McQuarrie below:

It's probably just a funny coincidence that Renner mentioned stretching, but it could also be considered a small callback to the production of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol where his unique style of stretching caught the eye of Tom Cruise and eventually made its way into the film: "A funny thing happened when we were shooting in Dubai. I can’t even describe the Renner Stretch. He’s got a copyright on the Renner Stretch. I laughed so hard when he did it for me. I said this has gotta go in this movie. I said you gotta show [director Brad] Bird. You gotta show Bird! It’s gotta go in right before this tunnel sequence we do. So it’s in the movie. I don’t think I could do the Renner Stretch justice, but he’s an actor who’s not afraid to do that and go there."

Here are a few gifs of the scene:

And here's a clip of the "Fan Jump" scene:

With the IMF disbanded, and Ethan (Tom Cruise) out in the cold, the team now faces off against a network of highly skilled special agents, the Syndicate. These highly trained operatives are hellbent on creating a new world order through an escalating series of terrorist attacks. Ethan gathers his team and joins forces with disavowed British agent Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), who may or may not be a member of this rogue nation, as the group faces their most impossible mission yet.

Loved the last one. For me it was one of those films where you feel like you don't blink, you're just wide eyed enjoying all the action. Sidenote, I've always wanted Tom Cruise in a CBM. Maybe Brainiac or Hal Jordan?

@QuietStorm - yeah this last Mission Impossible was my favorite since the first one Cruise did. I still watch that movie. [frick]ing red light, green light shit is awesome. That helicopter tunnel scene is still amazing. So good.

@kakinurmawth - I don't know...all the hype about the last MI...my wife and I were kind of underwhelmed. We thought the one before that was better, with him jumping around the skyscraper in Dubai or whatever

You know... I wonder why these movies aren't doing as well as they should. I thought Rogue Nation would have hit a billion but it didn't. Instead all it did was make 5 million less than Ghost Protocol. Weird.

Hope he returns for more Bourne Identity movies, I liked the contrast between his and Matt Damon's Bourne films.
