Dreamworks Animation is no stranger when it comes to cancelling projects. They have ended projects like Shrek 5 (until recently), Me & My Shadow, Mumbai Musical, and Croods 2. Today, it was announced, they had pulled the plug on what was suppoesed to be their only release of 2018, Larrikins.

Accoring to Broadway World, Tim Michlin, songwriter and singer, who was set to direct and write songs for the project,  sent out a message stating that he would be performing at Feinsteins/54 Below to cope with hard times, with one of the reasons being "And then a couple of days ago, the animated film to which I've dedicated the last 4 years of my life was shut down by new studio execs.
"

Larrikins was set for a Februray 2018 release, coming out a week after another animated film (this one done by the studio who made the Lego Movie), SmallFoot, and the same day as Black Panther. It was set to be about "
an uptight bilby gets kicked out of his sheltered life of his family burrow, he ventures out and finds himself launched on a musical adventure across the mystical Australian outback" and was set to star Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Rose Byrne, Ben Mendelson, and others.

This is one of the two movies cancelled after DWA was bought by Comcast, the other being The Croods 2. The projects they've announced under Comcast are Shrek 5, Shadows, Trolls 2, and Everest. Most of these projects have recieved mixed reactions, with the exception of Shadows, which due to Edgar Wright's involvment, has recieved a positive reaction.

So what I'm hearing here is, Universal only wanted Dreamworks Animation for their 2-3 big franchises and are axing everything else?

This sounds like it would have been an awesome movie, so why cancel it?

As for Trolls 2 I'm not sure where they will take the sequel, but the first was one movie I believe would be better if you watch it when you are high.

I'm not saying the first was bad, but after seeing it I think it could be better under the influence.

Why did they cancel the movie? It should not be because of the DreamWorks Animation purchase by Comcast. There must be some specific reasons for cancelling the only movie for 2018.

Besides, the studio executives should know better than to have 2018 with no DreamWorks animated films when they know for a fact that the studio produces at least two films a year.
