As Warner Bros. makes what must surely be one final attempt to get a live-action adaptation of Akira into production, another director's name has emerged as a potential candidate to step behind the camera. According to The Tracking Board, the studio is "moving aggressively to lock in Jordan Peele to direct coming off the mega-success of Get Out."

Just in case you're unaware, Get Out is an excellent satirical horror flick that's taken the world by storm, and has clearly catapulted Peele into a position that's going to land him some big budget blockbuster projects... if he wants them, that is. The filmmaker has already said that he has another batch of "social thrillers" that he plans to tackle, so he may well pass on WB's offer.

What do you guys think? Is Peele the right man for this job? Maybe you'd prefer it if Akira went back into development hell?  Drop us a comment below.

He also might be asked to direct Flash if he doesn't want to do Akira

@NoMeaning45 - Well, Sneider said he wouldn't be surprised if they asked him and that he still might... just an assumption on his part though.

@NoMeaning45 - Wonder if something changed with his mentality about big time franchises, where he had no interest in them, besides $$$ ofc. Saw that he didn't want to do any because he has multiple scripts of his own for projects. Would be a great get though, that movie needs stability and a director more than anything right now.

@Menks123 - I think if its the right properties, it can convince him to jump in to these big budget films.

Maybe he's a fan of Akira or DC Comics, who knows?

I hated Akira, but maybe I need to rewatch it. Anyway, good for Peele. Get Out was great.

He JUST said he didn't want to do ANY FRANCHISE films in a recent Screen Junkies interview. Especially cbms.

But I could get behind this.

Just realized that Jordan peele is half of key and peele, duh. How did I put that together.

I hate those guys. Firstly, I don't think their brand of humor is funny, secondly -

THEY RUINED MY NAME. MY [frick]IN NAME MAN.

You know how many times I've been called "Ay-Ay-Ron"? At least fifty, no exaggeration. Is that joke even [frick]ing funny? No, it's not. But people I don't even know will start calling me that as soon as they find out my name and they think it's soooo funny.

Hate this guy. I'm sure he's a great filmmaker, and I'm very, very, excited to see get out. But [frick] this guy man.

If anything Peele can certainly capture the strange tone Akira takes on once the psychics come into play.
