Unused AKIRA Concept Art Featuring Kaneda & Cityscapes Of New Manhattan

Warner Bros. has tried numerous times to make a live-action remake of Katsuhiro Ohtomo's Akira, so at this time I don't know which incarnation these are for. What I can tell you is that it was created by Brazilian artist, Rodolfo Damaggio. Check it out!

Just a year ago, Warner Bros. live-action take on Akira, starring Kristen Stewart (Twilight) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), appeared to be moving forward, but several concerns arose that lead to the project being shutdown indefinitely. That version would've been directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan), but he isn't the only director to take a crack at Akira. Before Jaume, there was Albert Hughes (Book Of Eli & From Hell) and even Irish short film director, Ruairi Robinson.

Even though WB has been unsuccessful with their live-action version we at least have some concept art from the defunct project. These new images that have surfaced on Rodolfo Damaggio's ((Hulk, Iron Man, & Green Lantern) website give us a much better idea of the look of the film, whichever version it was for. There are a trio of cityscapes depicting "New Manhattan" and one of the film's protagonist, Kaneda. Enjoy!

aww a nintendo sign on the 3rd picture that must be paying homage to japan i think it should have been made with leonardo di caprio as kaneda and shia lebouf as tetsuo or maybe even kristen stewart[as much as i hate her] or another upcoming actress but it would be better if they got japanese actors seriously as someone who just started getting into anime last year i dont imagine anime characters as Caucasian but rather asian like i cant imagine a white-boy naruto yuck!!!!!

honestly NailBiter111 I Was excited when Latino did a few reviews on the different scripts one was very faithful and got me interested in akria, I loved the idea of a half Japanese cast & American Cast. Neo-Manhattan looks beautiful and how I pictured it and felt it could of stand on it's own.

Turn around's of Keneda's costuem look amazing and dead on acturate and well looks awesome.

It doesn't matter how high quality the story or concept art is, casting that weak would've screwed up the entire movie.

I was always going to support this movie. The Japanese-ness was never important! what IS important is to portray the Horrors of science and Cyber=Punk. For aesthetic purposes, they could easily make it like Firefly, where both American and Oriental cultures fused.

I just hope that if it ever does get made, they change that last quarter of the movie, with the Giant...thing at the end.

GetsugaTensho22. the importance of japan being already post nuclear is very prevalent in the plot, if it is to be a live action adaptation of the anime and not just loosely based on it, it should be done in Japan.
