The online media service Crunchyroll added the Korean live-action adaptation of Yoko Kamio's Boys Over Flowers (Hana Yori Dango) manga to its library on Tuesday. Premium members in the United States and Canada can watch all 25 episodes in the series, while free users are limited to five episodes per week.
The 2009 television series follows Jan Di, a middle-class girl who makes a delivery for her family's dry-cleaning shop at the elite Shinhwa High School. During the delivery, she stops a student from jumping off the roof and is offered a scholarship. At the school, she encounters the F4 clique — four rich, handsome bachelors admired by the entire student body. Jan Di fights with F4 until she falls for one of the members, Goo Joon Pyo.
The Korean Boys Over Flowers series earned a record 14.3% national rating when it premiered in South Korea on January 5, 2009. Kamio personally came to South Korea to meet the cast during a press conference and posted a sketch she drew of the cast. The manga had already been adapted into Japanese anime, a 1995 Japanese live-action film, and a more well-known 2005 Japanese television drama which spawned a sequel and a hit film. Taiwan also remade the manga into a live-action university drama titled Meteor Garden. Viz Media released the manga and anime versions in North America.
Crunchyroll also added Iris, a live-action drama series about two brothers (Lee Byung-heon, Jeong Jun-ho) who become national security agents together but fall for the same woman, a fellow agent (Kim Tae-hee).
