Akira Toriyama Expresses Dissatisfaction With DRAGON BALL SUPER

Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball mangaka has recently expressed that he's not happy with the quality of the new DBZ anime, Dragon Ball Super. He also takes another shot at the utterly regrettable live-action film, Dragon Ball: Evolution.

Recently, Japan's V Jump magazine published Dragon Ball 30th Anniversary Super History Book, a celebration of three decades of arguably, Japan's most famous manga IP. Within said magazine were a few quotes from Dragon Ball creator, Akira Toriyama, which reflected his dissatisfaction with where his beloved manga has had a few shortcomings in transitioning to anime and film. "Inside, I've been upset at Dragon Ball in the past, as well as the live-action film that came later," said Toriyama. He continued, "I've revised the script for the anime film and I've complained about the quality of the TV anime. Maybe someday it'll be a work that I'll like so much that I won't be able to leave it alone."

While Dragon Ball Super has yet to premiere here in the States, report from overseas state that the new Dragon Ball Z anime is rife with animation errors. Perhaps they'll be fixed before the series is distributed internationally by FUNimation next year.

this has been shit, the animation is terrible and the first 27 episodes are just a repeat of battle of gods and resurrection of f.

All in all tho, I can't wait for the english dub to release. I love DBZ and honestly I really enjoyed GT as well for the most part.

the whole universe 6 vs universe 7 is a really nice callback to the tournaments of the old series, but hopefully there will be plot as well. it would be nice to see vegeta being tempted by the ghost of his peoples past, goku being solidly defeated for a change in pace, gohan stepping in to finally take back the torch he was given in the cell saga and becoming the strongest fighter in the universe, dammit. maybe even bigger than beerus. i just dont want them to recycle the same tired old devices and distractions.

@kinghulk i really, really hope that toriyama doesnt make gohan b**ch out like he did with buu and beerus and frieza. gohan was supposed to have all this "untapped potential" and what happens with it? not a damn thing. but it seems there is hope now that he has asked piccolo to train him again.

yeah that really pissed me off they built up all the potential stuff from the start of dragonball z, he beat cell they grew up to be a bit of a wimp got strong enough to fight buu then got absorbed and goku and vegeta (mainly goku) had to save the day

@AsapHarley - My favorite manga of all time One Piece. The new king of manga and spiritual successor to Dragon Ball. It does suck that TOEI animation is producing it though because how cheap and lazy they can get with the art. I only watch episodes of important moments anymore and not every week like I use to. I actually don't watch much anime anymore and prefer to read the manga version.

seriously, DBZ was one of the better animated anime of its time, but now Toei sh*t out this ugly, cheap looking mess of a series.
and not even the story or characters can save it. DBZ was mostly mindless superhero action, but it was good mindless superhero action, Super is just boooring.

This is why they should have just kept doing films instead of a new series. Have a new movie every year to keep the story going, you get excellent animation on a very modest $5mil budget and get HUGE returns.

Battle of Gods made over $50mil and Resurrection F made $62mil. I knew they'd find some way to [frick] it up if they did an anime series.

Rumor is that they rushed the animation when they decided to re-tell the last 2 films. Hopefully the animation picks up once the new material rolls in, which started yesterday actually. They did mess up by not using animation from the actual films in the series, would've saved them time and money.
