AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM Rumor Points To Ben Affleck's Batman Replacing Michael Keaton's Dark Knight

Following reports that Ben Affleck will reprise the role of Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, a rumour claims the actor is actually being enlisted to take the place of Michael Keaton's Dark Knight.

By JoshWilding - Jul 30, 2022 07:07 AM EST

A couple of days ago, it was revealed that Ben Affleck will return as Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The news came as a major surprise to fans, especially as the belief is that the actor only came back for The Flash to bid farewell to Bruce Wayne.

We know that movie is going to essentially create a new DC Extended Universe, with Michael Keaton replacing Affleck as the Caped Crusader. That's been confirmed by Batgirl set photos with the Batman star on set.

However, various release date changes have seen that HBO Max title pushed down the calendar, while The Flash and the Aquaman sequel swapped when they were pushed into 2023. Needless to say, we have to see the Scarlet Speedster's next adventure before Keaton starts making his presence felt or any cameos will make absolutely zero sense.

According to insider KC Walsh, "[It] looks like they are replacing the [Michael Keaton] scenes with Affleck, remember [Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom] was originally supposed to come out after The Flash and audiences were confused by his inclusion."

We'd heard that Keaton was going to show up in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, while rumours that Warner Bros. has plans for a Crisis on Infinite Earths movie have swirled for a while now. The DCEU needs rebooting, anyway, but how much the studio has altered plans in the wake of that Ezra Miller controversy remains to be seen.

It's surprising that Affleck has agreed to sub in for Keaton, though we can't help but wonder if the actor has had his faith restored in the role after the outpouring of love he received for Zack Snyder's Justice League. Either wait, it's beginning to look like he might stick around as the Dark Knight for the foreseeable.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to surface in theaters on March 17, 2023.

It will be good to see Ben back as Bruce / Batman in the Aquaman film.

No rumors needed for this one, just good ol' common sense.

@DrReedRichards - It’s still funny though, dude is replacing his replacement before his replacement can even replace him.

@TheWalkingCuban -

It's even funnier when you consider that he himself was the replacement of his replacement's twice replaced replacement...

...I think.

And that's without even bringing up the new replacement!

@ClevercluBatman - Lucky for them to MCU has been going backwards lately. The only thing I don’t have against him is tons of scandals, tho there is that one now about cgi people complaining that they’re not treated as equally as real ones or somethin I don’t read articles I just assume the dumbest thing possible

Good! Love BatFleck! Just don’t give me Joss’s version.

@JonAwesome - or Snyder's.

@Nightmare - Arguably, aside from the I’ll conceived motivation to persecute Superman (and the even more catastrophic motivation not to *cough* Martha *cough*), Snyder’s Batman tops Joss’s. So, remove the goofy Snyder stuff and all the shed on stuff, bam, batfleck is great. I’m talking about the future, I def think Bale, Keaton, and Pattinson lucked out and are by default better, but not really default. They excelled. So in my humble and worthless opinion, batfleck’s bad outweighed his good (the fights, the cool Bruce Wayne, etc), but if they reverse that, he’ll top all others. The potential is right there.

@TheWalkingCuban - he was the best bruce, and looked the best in costume, and had the right idea for batman. His script like Kilmer and Clooney in the past was what brought him down. Maybe not even script, but plot. His movies plots have just been yuck

@TheWalkingCuban - nah. His stunt man had a good action scene in BvS. That’s it. He was garbage in Josstice League and Snyder Cut. His performance beyond that had minimal effort to it. There is no “by default”, he’s battling it out with Kilmer and maybe was slightly better in fourth place, maybe. Pattinson is by far the best. Then Keaton or Bale.

When I saw the photo the other day I thought maybe he will just be Bruce Wayne and not suit up. But I guess that's not the case.

If Keaton was to appear in Aquaman 2 that makes perfect sense, The Flash is put on hold so the replacing of Affleck by Keaton won't have happened at that point.

@Blergh - But that goes to show you how awful WB is with their actors. "Hey we wanna replace you. Hey remember when we wanted to replace you? Well Ezra is off his rocker. We are going to replace Michael Keaton with you!"

Meanwhile.....

"Hey Keaton. Remember when we said we are reviving your Batman to replace Ben? Sike!"

did they see morbius before changing Keaton

They should just keep Battfleck for all the future DCEU movies and leave Keaton for a Batman Beyond adaptation not set in the DCEU but in the Burtonverse, but I guess WB's idea of a BB adaptation is the Batgirl movie... 🤦

Delighted ! Love Affleck as Bats. He's the only actor who got both characters right.

Keaton- great BM , average BW.
Kilmer- no comment, no comment
Clooney - no comment , no comment
Bale great BW , Batman wasn't a bit much, the voice etc !
Affleck - very good BM and BW.
Pattinson- cool BM, weird BW.

@emeraldtaurus - I agree with you in the sense of a traditional Batman and Bruce. But I think Pattinson played his Bruce incredibly well, it was just a different kind of Bruce. I have no doubt he can pull off the playboy-esque public figure Bruce well.
