SCOOP: Marvel And Disney Set To Unveil Plans For Future Game Releases At D23

With Disney's D23 only weeks away, I have a rumor from an inside source that confirms we're about to see some big news in terms of Star Wars and Marvel video games! Read on for more details!

With Marvel evaluating its video game situation, it sounds like we'll find out what Marvel has planned for gamers at this years D23.

Marvel's deal with Activision is set to expire in 2017, Gazillion's deal to end in 2019; both Sega and THQ have recurring annual deals that are up to Disney and Marvel as to whether they want to renew. We've heard in the past that Marvel would evaluate what it wants to do with it's properties and video games. My source has informed me that Marvel will announce which deals it's keeping in place, and which new developers it's partnering with.

Marvel has begun doing this in recent years, as they recently partnered with Telltale to develop a Marvel adventure game. Marvel did also make a deal with Gazillion in 2009 which lead to the release of Marvel Heroes.

While my source stresses that we likely won't find out specifics regarding what these partners are working on, the idea is to show that Marvel is making a push for current generation (Playstation 4, Xbox One) systems. It sounds too like some existing partners like Gazillion may port their games over to current generation systems.

On the Star Wars front, we will finally find out what Amy Henning and Jade Raymond's Star Wars project is. As some may recall, Amy was working on Uncharted 4 before she left Naughty Dog to join EA and work on an undisclosed Star Wars game. Jade Raymond (Assassins Creed I and II) later joined to assist in this project. My source tells me that we're going to find out what this game is.

It's probably the Telltale game.

God Marvel games now suck.

It's funny. In gaming DC is the one kicking ass and taking names and Marvel is the one rushing to scramble against DC and copying off DC games for their games.

@GliderMan

Just rip off the Arkham series. Seriously.

What do you think the influence for the combat in Captain America The First Avengers, Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man Edge of Time, TASM, and TASM2 was?

A Luke Cage/Iron Fist game would be so dope.

Marvel needs Rocksteady to make them a game.

You can cross off THQ, because that company doesn't exist anymore. I'd also say Sega will not make Marvel games too and the reason is because Sega is done with properties that aren't theirs. Activision is the only one I can see reuping their contract for Marvel video games rights. But I don't even see that and the reason is their properties sell a lot more.

Now the only companies I could see buying Marvel video game rights is 2K or Ubisoft. Disney could have been a huge power player in video games, but they just don't want to do that. So it will be interesting to see what happens with Marvel and video games.

Id like to see a starwars game made the way FallOut and Skyrim was made by Bethesda

They better renew their deal with Gazillion. Marvel Heroes started out badly, but it has become an insanely good game. David Brevik and his team has worked really hard with this game and turned it around. It's one of the best ARPGs out right now.

Kinda related: There's an answer in the Battlefront site QA area that refers to a 10-year contract between them and LucasArts.

Why can't they just make a giant multiplayer fighting game in an open, destructible city?

Also, I wanna see characters that ARE NOT balanced so that you don't see something dumb like Daredevil going toe-to-toe with The Hulk! Anyone more powerful than say Iron Man should be unlocked as a bonus in game, kinda like Darth Vader in Battlefront.

The worst part is that any game actually worth buying takes at least 3 years to make and if its not already in development that means it will be a long time yet before a good Marvel game comes out :(
