Marvel Confirms Destruction Of MCU's Infinity Stones Following Events Of AVENGERS: ENDGAME

While this was hinted at in Avengers: Endgame, a social media post from Marvel has confirmed that the Infinity Stones have indeed been destroyed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Read on for details...

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark used the Infinity Gauntlet to destroy Thanos and his army, while Steve Rogers later returned the alternate reality Stones back to their rightful place in the timeline. To mark the recent launch of Avengers: Infinity War on Disney+, Marvel shared a short video on its Instagram account highlighting the Marvel Cinematic Universe's six Infinity Stones.

In that, the status of each of the stones is touched upon, and it's confirmed that they have indeed been destroyed.

This contradicts comments from directors Joe and Anthony Russo, as they said that, "Thanos only reduced the stones to the atomic level," when he used the stones to destroy the stones, and that, "The stones are still present in the universe." The Infinity Stones still exist in the past, of course, but it does seem as if the ones Thanos destroyed five years ago are well and truly gone.

Check out the video below and let us know your thoughts on what it reveals in the comments section:

According to Endgame, the stones need to exist for the universe to function - so no, the stones cannot be 'destroyed' otherwise the entire universe ends. If the stones exist in any form, they can be repaired - especially if they were 'reduced to atoms' because we have at least seven characters in the MCU capable of doing so.

That's not to even mention the fact we have a working time machine in the MCU and any future problems in the MCU could easily be fixed by the time machine they still have - and have zero reason not to use because it has zero consequences for them.

The MCU as a narrative completely collapses with Endgame - no more emotional stakes, no more consequences, no more justification for any bad things to happen. It simply has too many contradictory aspects that would enable the heroes to automatically undone everything that happened.

As far as I can tell the only way to fix this utter disaster is to claim 'The universe is collapsing slowly' and have Doctor Strange realize this in 'Multiverse of Madness' where we see some of the alternate verses start to collapse. Then when we get the next Avengers movie we have them fighting to defend against a wave of energy that is wiping out the universes and ends up stranding a few in the same universe (e.g. Fantastic Four, X-Men, Blade, etc...)

Actions of the heroes, especially concerning the Infinity Stones or Time Travel need massive consequences otherwise you have no narrative reason to avoid using them to solve problems.

@Scarilian - Dude, who you trying to fool? Everybody and their mom here knows how much of an anti-MCU troll you are. Be a little more subtle about it in the future. MAYBE people will then take you seriously.

@Scarilian - My problem is with how they don't seem to follow their own rules they set up for time travel.

They explained that changing the past doesn't change the future, it creates a new timeline. So it replacing the Infinity Stones in the past, even at the exqct moment they were taken, would not fix their timeline.

Why? Because in order to replace the stones at the exact same time they were taken, a person would need to show up in the past BEFORE the stones were taken in order to put them back in time. When you drive to the store you don't instantly appear there with your items in hand. You have to go there and walk around to get your items. Same thing. The person has to show up in the past BEFORE they stones were taken in order to gwt there in time to replace them.

So as soon as someone appears in the past, they've already altered the timeline because now they've created a past with two of that person and two set of Infinity Stones, which, by their definition, would now create a new timeline. One where the original stones were never taken because the Avengers didn't take the stones from that new timeline.

Their whole basis for fixing what happened in Endgame shouldn't be able to work based on their own rules.

@Scarilian - “it has zero consequences for them”

I don’t know if you saw the final act of “Endgame”, but the use of the time machine very nearly ended in the complete destruction of the entire universe by an alternate Thanos.

And we’re due for further fallout with the introduction of the Time Variance Authority in “Loki” as well. But in any event, I think that the Avengers aren’t going to be using Time Travel lightly after all that.
