EDITORIAL: The Avengers Hand in Ultron's Evolution

So after CA:TWS, Phase 2 leaves us now in an awkward position. Where does that leave our Avengers, and how does it affect them and bring about the rise of Ultron? Could we see new Avengers pop up or at least be alluded to?

After that gripping and amazing movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier, now comes the long, long, long, (and AGONIZING) wait till we get to see Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the Age of Ultron and Ultron Himself...

**Save of course for a possible teaser at the end of Guardians and hopefully something from Comic Con 2014,...knowing Marvel and the leakers with cams though, it's HIGHLY Possible we get some sweet goodies**

Anyway spoilers if you haven't watched Agents of SHIELD recently or watched the latest Cap movie

So at the end of Captain America, we're left with:
  • no more SHIELD, because its all Hydra infiltrated and junk

  • a Nick Fury in hiding with everyone thinkin he's dead so he can do some super secret spy stuff

  • Hydra up and about with Loki's Glow Stick of Destiny and the Maximoffs. Not sure if they're really sticking with calling mutants in the MCU "miracles" now; with Von Struckers whole line about the "Age of Miracles" ...blah blah Age of Ultron.. Age of Extinction.. Age of Apocalypse.. Age of Ages blah blah...Age.

  • Black Widow trying to find her way and soul searching, after she leaked all SHIELD/HYDRA intel to the world. Looks like she's still in touch with her Russian buddies by the end of Cap 2 though.

  • Tony Stark with 42 blown up Iron Suits, also now Power Core-less and possibly doing some science-y shizz with Bruce Banner in the...

  • ...revamped s̶ t̶  A  ̶r̶ k̶ Tower,

  • Rhodey with possibly the only not blown up Iron Suit, and yes i prefer the black/gray version not the Iron patriot colors. I hope they bring in a War Machine 2.0 or 3.0 or whatever, just keep it Black and Gray. Leave the stars and stripes to Cap, speaking of which...

  • Captain America get some new duds! Though we're not sure if he's still on his mission to find out more about Bucky/Winter Soldier in A2, but its nice to see him back in the red, white, and blues after his SHIELD Stealth suit. Nice mix of his old suit with his new suit. Hoping he still gets the scales and real wings one day...and speaking of wings...

  • Hawkeye somewhere possibly in eastern Europe(but we only know this through set photos and speculation, they never really looked for him or mentioned him in TWS)

So with all that going on, how does Utron's Origins come into play? And why did Whedon and Feige mention that they won't make Ant-Man/Hank Pym his creator?! And it could be that Tony Stark is creating ULTRON?!

WHY?!!!!!

All fan boys and Comic book purists screamed and typed in frustration for 3 weeks after that tidbit.

But Whedon did say this would be more personal and more of a journey into the relationships of the Avengers. A natural evolution of each character's arc and how that runs along with Ultron's creation.

For me it seems kinda weird that Ant-Man is after A2 and not before; being that Pym's arc is supposedly set in the 60's and they could have easily, easily put Ant-Man before A2. Seems a bit fishy to me, maybe Marvel is pulling something just so fanboys and the general audience get a mix of old and new. Maybe it's a hunch, but my theory is STARK and PYM both create Ultron; but more on that later.

Anyway...If they released Ant-Man before A2, they could still do whatever they're planning for Ant-Man, and just have Pym record his brain patterns and make an Ultron 1.0. Have the android be all friendly and naive in a throwaway cameo scene. Then have a post credit stinger with Ultron all menacingly staring at the audience...or some shit like that.

But....

That's not what happened...

So then how do all the Avengers have some sort of connection to the creation of Ultron then? Each will play a part in Ultron's evolution, and I think the Ultron we first meet in A2 won't be the first Iteration but could very well be anywhere from Ultron 3 - 5. I do believe the Ultron A.I. was still created by PYM and has existed very early in the MCU and has just been dormant but corrupted by HYDRA or whatever.

Its important to note "Ultron 5" was how he was first identified as in the comics when encountering the Avengers. It's also more important to know that in the comics he was the leader of the Masters of Evil and hypnotized Jarvis(the butler of the Stark family, in the comics) to work for him. Possibly something we could see even if MCU's Jarvis is an AI but more on that later..

 Tony Stark's involvement with Ultron-
I think after SHIELD going down and HYDRA an imminent danger to the world, Tony takes it upon himself to create an A.I run Iron-Manesque Police force. Thus he builds a drone or an android, but not from his Iron Man blue prints, but something completely new. A new sentient armor complete with a new version of JARVIS A.I. But wait, how does this become personal? You guys remember Yinsen, the dude who helped Tony build the Mark I and escape the Ten Rings? Yeah, This guy:

Well after perusing some info about Ultron, seems he was a part of something called the Sons of Yinsen. See in the comics, instead of the cave and Ten rings, Stark and Yinsen were held up in some prison by some Vietnamese communist called Wong-Chu. After Stark escaped, and Yinsen's death, some former prisoners of Wong-Chu,(disciples and followers of Yinsen) created a quasi cult(the Sons of Yinsen) based on the philosophies and notes in Yinsen's journal. They create some advanced tech and make some flying Utopia city with it. Anyway, it's revealed that Yinsen's brain was preserved and put into a sentient armor, controlled by no other than ULTRON. Believing that its a resurrected Yinsen, the Sons of Yinsen follow every command of YinsenBot/Ultron and prepare for a War.

Now I don't think they'll follow that very story line but could loosely base it on Stark getting a hold of Yinsen's notebook. Combine that with a reverse engineered "Zola's Algorithm" that targets HYDRA instead and then have him possibly pattern an A.I. after Yinsen rather than JARVIS as a tribute. But then the android body he boots it into is somehow already infected with a dormant ULTRON A.I. It could be an android based on parts from using that original Human Torch body from the STARK EXPO and Iron Man's tech. STARK mistakenly thinks its his fault and feels guilty over:

1. Not being able to save his Friend Yinsen in the first place while escaping the cave and
2. Now tarnishing his name by making an uncontrollable kill bot.

JARVIS becomes corrupted also by the Ultron A.I. and then he is built into the Vision, again using some of that original Human Torch body from the STARK EXPO and parts of Iron Man's tech.

Captain America's Involvement -
Plain and simple, I think he approves of Stark creating the androids to hunt down and find HYDRA agents with out the cost of anymore Human lives and much collateral damage. There's no more SHIELD so they need all the muscle power they can get. They would be an army of androids under the Avengers full command, taking orders no questions asked (or so they thought). Once Ultron 5.0 reveals himself and leads his small army, I think they fight with the Hulk, Cap, and Thor, but Ultron's forces just get decimated. So he scans up Cap's near indestructible shield. And Boom, Ultron goes shopping for Vibranium in Wakanda. Ultron 6.0 is born. In this way, we may get a glimpse of Black Panther or at least his involvement in Wakanda as a King.

Thor's Involvement -
I honestly think Thor could die in this one. And then he ends up in Hel, just to set up the Ragnarok Story line for Thor 3. Someone has to die, they need something to Avenge after all. Ultron could possibly assimilate asgardian tech like the Destroyer armor to make himself stronger and withstand lightning from Thor.

Hulk's Involvement-
I can see Bruce helping Tony create the new body for what would be the chassis of Ultron 5.0 and actually test it out. You know, using his Hulk Side and smashing the crap out of it's beta version for quality control and whatnot. This way, they would be making it strong enough to withstand even the Hulk, which they would likely regret later.

Black Widow and Hawkeye-
Since they're spies, maybe they had the intel behind the original creation of the ULTRON A.I. and that could've been bouncing around ever since the 60's. From different spies, scientists, etc. to different Black Markets. Who knows, maybe thats what they were trying to retrieve or either stop the acquisition of in Budhapest. We could also be introduced to Carol Danvers AKA Ms. Marvel as the pilot who has been flying around with Hawkeye. He can't be flying solo around in a quinjet this whole time we've been missing him offscreen right? Right? Ok maybe he can, but its another comic book worthy note that Ms. Marvel helps the Avengers defeat Ultron 8.0. So maybe she makes an appearance in some way or form.

Now STARK/PYM's involvement -
In a post credit stinger, its alluded to that the ULTRON A.I. was older and has been hanging around since the days of Howard Stark. After Cap going missing, Howard Stark kept searching for him but felt the world was void of Heroes. He started SHIELD as a task force to fight HYDRA and enlisted like minded individuals. It is shown that Howard Stark and Hank Pym actually collaborated together and used the original human torch android infused with Pym's Brain patterns to create a sort of synthezoid to do some good in the world. So while Pym spied for SHIELD as Ant-Man in a 60's Communist world, Ultron 1.0 with Pym's brain patterns would assist Howard Stark and SHIELD. Ultron 1.0 would be doing fine, until it grew weary of Humans and it began to loathe them. Thus Stark/Pym shut down the Ultron Project. But it survived somehow....

Cut back to present, with an older Pym, angry, distraught and rummaging through his lab only to find an empty metal container labeled "Pym Particle Test Suit".

Then end the show with Michael Douglas all menacingly staring at the audience...or some shit like that.

I still think Rhodey will actually be wearing the red & gold suit.

I vote Mockingbird as Hawkeye's pilot instead of Carol Danvers, and then for god's sake set up a Hawkeye led black ops Avengers team with Hawkeye, Mockingbird, QS, SW, Vision, Moon Knight, Tigra and Wonder Man who join up with the other Avengers in Avengers 3

End credits scene: A shadowed figure walks through the halls of a dusty old lab, surrounded by prototype androids and robot parts covered in sheets. He pulls a dusty old tarp off of a six foot tall, steel compartment and types in a code - the door to the compartment slides open, revealing the original Ant Man suit and helmet. The container's light flickers and then turns on, revealing Michael Douglas' face, he smirks. Behind him- seen only by the audience a prototype android turns and looks at Hank Pym.

And then for the post credits scene: The Avengers sing the Frozen soundtrack and eat nachos

@ Ruadh

I don't know man. In that set photo with those two guys floating over the water with the water spraying jet packs, it sure looks like it will be Iron Man and War Machine flying side by side.

I feel that Stark is going to create Ultron to take his place as Iron Man so he can focus more on his personal life and Pepper. Especially the way IM3 ended. Ultron of course turns evil, and Stark takes up the Iron Man armor again.

Thats just what I thnk.

Yeah, I don't really see any of this being right, and quite frankly I didn't like the sound of much of it. A couple of things in particular I disagree with. First, I can't see Cap approving the creation of drones, even to fight Hydra. I don't think he would trust them, he would want people involved, not robots. And, I don't see that whole Yinsen thing happening.

As for Pym, yes, Whedon and Marvel are both known for misdirection, so it is possible that he does have something to do with Ultron's creation. That is a slight possibility. But, I think it if very slight, and I think that many fanboys just can't accept that he's not part of it, and so keep coming up with ways to involve him. It makes no sense to give him a part in it. General audiences have no real idea who Pym is, so mentioning him as an early creator of Ultron's AI would make no sense to them. They show a scene of Pym's brainwaves being transferred, and 60% of the audience is thinking "who's that, why are they doing that, and if he helped make Ultron, why isn't he helping kill Ultron?" And Ant-Man is still the riskiest movie for Marvel yet, and I don't see them creating a large connection between that movie and Avengers, just to see the connection go down the tubes if Ant-Man bombs. There will probably be some minor connection, but I think that will be it. And frankly, I don't want Pym involved. He's not in this version of the Avengers, leave him out of it.

Gusto was entertained and approves, thats as good as getting on main! Glad you had a good laugh Old Man!

Anyway, nice to hear feedback from all of you. Thanks for reading and sharing your own thoughts on what Pym's involvement is.

I'm sure Ant-Man and Avengers 2 will do fine no matter what they do with it though.
