Sign Petition Against Renaming THE AVENGERS in the UK

I believe it is a massive mistake to rename "The Avengers" to "Avengers Assemble" in the UK release. If you feel the same, please sign my petition.

SIGN PETITION HERE!

Some of you may or may not be aware that it has recently been announced that in the UK 'The Avengers' has a new title...the aforementioned 'Avengers Assemble'

Here is Disney's statement as told to HeyUGuys:

"We have changed the title of “Marvel The Avengers” to “Marvel Avengers Assemble” This has been done merely to differentiate the movie from the popular 1960’s British television show, The Avengers."

Well quite frankly I believe this is abit of a slap in the face. Yes the titles are the same and yes there has already been a piss poor hollywood version of the british TV show 'The Avengers' made in 1998...

But that was 14 years ago and I very highly doubt anyone who used to watch the tv show 'The Avengers' back in the swinging 60's will be going to see Marvel's Avengers...and I doubt anyone remembers the 1998 rendition...

This is clear proof that Disney does not understand it's target audience...the box office sales in the UK for Marvel studios films; Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Incredible Hulk, Thor & Captain America: First Avenger, have grossed hundreds of millions of pounds, meaning you'd find it hard to find anyone in the UK that does not know the difference between Marvels The Avengers & The 'Avengers'...

Therefore in a cry of defiance I have started an online petition in the hope that should enough signatories be obtain we can make ourselves heard and this un-necessary name change be undone...

Whether you share my opinions or not does not matter...but if you do then please sign my petition and help my cause...anyone is welcome you do not have to be a UK resident to sign it...

This maybe a foolish endeavour...but we shall see...

Thank you for reading...

...Just to point out...this really has no effect on the cinema release...I am just concerned that when the DVD/ Blu Rays are released, we in the UK will have on our boxes 'Avengers Assemble'...this is something I myself would not like...I do not know about your good selves...

...And also the point to this is I take offence to Disney's statement that they want to differentiate the titles...so what are they saying that we British aren't intelligent enough to know the difference...come on!!!

Dude, I highly doubt changing the title from the team name to one of their catchphrases is too much of a stretch. Audiences will still know exactly what the movie is. It makes no difference. Relax :)

"This has been done merely to differentiate the movie from the popular 1960’s British television show, The Avengers."

I would be willing to bet a bundle the title change was meant to differentiate the movie from the television show in the eyes of distribution copyrights, not paying customers.

With this only now being announced, the problem probably came to their attention when the film went to the ratings board to receive an official rating.

yeah i highly doubt any self respecting brit woud have a problem distinguishing between voldemort and mia wallace' avengers as opposed to iron man hulk etc... so the whole distibution rights makes the most reasonable argument.

hey heres an idea... call it marvels avengers
not avengers assemble, it keeps it simple without deviating too far from the actual title

@ sansClaymore - someone who has signed the petition just suggested that too...

Also they pointed out the 'Avengers Assemble' is a catchphrase/battle cry...it shouldn't be the name of the film...

Marvel's Avenger's is a good substitute...

Also I agree with the distribution rights theory!!!

No different to the names Batman Begins, Superman Returns or Batman Returns. Seriously how big a problem is this?

Yea i dont really have a problem with it...

I really liked the 60s-80's tv show, and im going to see the Avengers.

I would prefer the DVD/Blu-Ray just to say Avengers but i wont worry too much if it doesnt (makes UK movie memorabilia more rare and sort after with an alternate title)

plus if it wasnt for the internet and movie magazines the general public wouldnt have even known there was even a change in title lol :P

I signed it. I'm in the US. And even I thought the title change was ridiculous(unnecessary).

All they have to do is call the movie Avengers.

BOOM. Simple as that.

Why in the world is this the petition worth signing? When this is the one you should be... http://www.change.org/petitions/marvel-entertainment-give-credit-and-royalties-to-jack-kirby-and-his-family

It is time that we, the fans of these films stick up for the rights of the creators of the products we love and not for the corporations who bleed them dry, making a mockery of the lessons these stories hold.
