I can't recall if anyone has commented on this before but reading a recent article that used this picture kind of made me chuckle as it claimed that the shot in question was of Nick Fury hitting an alien (with the smoke made it difficult to make it out). Well, it's not an alien he's hitting, it's a S.H.I.E.L.D. guard.
This screengrab is not the clearest but when you freeze frame it on the Blu-ray for
Captain America: The First Avenger, it's very clear, although I unfortunately don't have the know-how to upload it. In Fury's left hand he is blocking a machine gun the guard is holding and its not dreadlocks its just the material their vests are made of.
