What's with all the Marvel Studios Hate going on?

Lets get some facts straight before we start trashing Cap numbers and casting in Avengers.

I have spent the last week or so on here reading comment after comment after comment trashing Marvel Studios in some shape or form. It is one thing to be upset (you have every right to be) its another to start putting out false information or starting up internet rumors of comebacks for casting etc.

Avengers trailer
Side note- I am so so so very tired of seeing post after post of the reason why someone wants to see this film is for Scar Jo in a tight costume. And people wonder why, even now, there is still not nearly as many female fans in the fandom. Its because frankly, alot of us are tired of hearing that type of stuff.

ED NORTON IS NOT BRUCE BANNER. It's not going to happen. Ever. again.
This is the perfect text book example of "dead is dead". Norton ruffled too many feathers (we will never know the details) while filming Incredible Hulk. Even diva type of actors are given so much lee-way before they get themselves black listed.

I speak from experience for that last sentence. Both in school and as an indy producer there are cast and crew that are on my little naughty list i refuse to work with again. When I get calls about these people's work ethics for other projects I am bluntly honesty with that producer. One bad apple (cast or crew)can ruin everything. I think Norton did this to himself with Marvel.

Ruffalo is a very good actor. Is he going to be the perfect Hulk/Banner? Who knows. But I have to agree with PrinceofPower87 "Sorry but there is NOTHING GREAT about Norton's portrayal of Bruce Banner to me. It could maybe be just me but I didn't get Norton's fear of what he was (an unstoppable DESTRUCTION MACHINE) like Bill Bixby passed on the audience. THAT'S what his portrayal lacked and what could have made it great, IMO."

You are basing a "performance" on less than 2 seconds (YES 2 SECONDS) of footage. He is just standing there- no delivery of a line, nothing. At least, at the very least wait until the full trailer is out and Ruffalo has like, a few lines to start ripping him to shreds.

Oh and someone reported that the actual production budget of Avengers is 260 million?
That is probably true- but not how you think. Most Studios report their box office numbers of the production budget which includes pre-production through post production (salaries, costs, food, travel etc). They VERY RARELY if ever count into the reported budget P&A (Prints and Advertising). Normally, from what I have learned, the P&A is a good third to 1/2 of the production budget.

So for example- Green Lantern's production budget was reported as $200 million (boxofficemojo.com). It's actual on the books budget for Warner is more than likely $233-300 million including the P&A. (Most people would consider this a flop since its only made $154,500,000 world wide).

Captain America.

Oh.. cap isn't doing well overseas? He only had like, what (as of me typing this at 10pm CDT) 53 million in the overseas box.

Did anyone, ANYONE take a look at the release schedule for Cap?

Brought to you courtesy of Boxofficemojo.com

Releasing OCTOBER 15th
Japan

Here's the thing- that is the neatest roll out schedule for a tent pole film that I have seen (once you break it down this way, as oppose to alphabetical on box office mojo). Japan I would put at the tail end also because that market LOVES American culture. I am a bit surprised by the delay in release (October seems so far away) however it makes quite a bit of sense due to all the economic and environmental issues still going on.

There is NO way you can compare the box office numbers of Cap to Thor until the beginning of October (if that) because of how this roll out is. Will Cap do well in all of these markets? One could wish and hope, but reality says some markets will report back better numbers than others.

So for all the good in the world, please stop trashing a studio until you get your facts straight.

Thank you :)

Great article. I'm so sick of fanboys complaining about everything in every movie. We should be happy that we get to see these movies that are great (admittedly, some have not been). Although I agree we can't compare box office numbers yet, there is this breakdown of superhero movies from this summer: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/thor/news/?a=43404
While this doesn't say what will happen in other markets or how much staying power Cap will have, it seems logical that Cap will not do as well as Thor.

I think if Captain America was a better movie, it would be iicrushing at the box office. It going to do well over seas, but not as well as Thor, I don't think...

I have a problem with Marvel Studios because they don't value their characters as deeply as they should and their movies suffer because of it. IM and The Incredible Hulk were great but then they started to screw up. The movies they've been releasing more recently are always lacking in story, good action, and character-depth that has always been evident in the comics. Their films seem dull, small, and rushed, when they could easily triumph if Marvel just took their time making them. I also have a deep hatred for Kevin Feige... the bastard makes promises he can't keep, which is why I fear for The Avengers. Just feels like a lot of potential is being wasted here. How hard is it to top Spider-Man 2?! I need a new CBM to top it, so I'm pretty annoyed with them at this point.

Wow! Shooting from the hip (so to speak)!

And I, for one, agree with everything you say. Especially about Norton and the CA:TFA overseas figures. It will be huge.

And as for those who say that certain characters don't 'need' a movie is just nonsense. If the story is good enough, if the script and characters are well written then that is all that is needed. Believe it or not it's not their powers but their character and story that determines whether someone is worth immortalising in celuloid!!

I've not actually seen any of this "hate" but that's probably because I'm slowly stopping reading comments because fanboys wind me up.

Anyway I'm excited for The Avengers BUT I have to admit I would be more excited if it was Norton as Banner. I know it isn't going to happen BUT my reasoning is because Incredible Hulk is my second favourite Marvel Studios film behind CA:TFA and it was partly Norton's performance that made it so for me, so surely that's understandable why I'd be more excited if Norton was in it?

But I generally don't like hate thrown at any studios, probably because I'm more forgiving than most with films, I actually like Daredevil and Green Lantern after all, more so than Thor. (a statement that will probably get me attacked)

what happened with Norton was that he had a contract with Marvel for multiple films - Marvel then came back to him and said, we dont want to pay you as much as the contract says you should get for a follow up film heres our new deal - Norton said no, we have a contract on principle ill only do the film for the previously agreed upon sum, marvel tried to lowball him and he stood his ground so they sought out a cheaper option

this is what happened - Norton did have disputes regarding the final cut of the film that was in theaters but the fall out was over Marvel studios trying to save a few bucks (okay ALOT of bucks)

Hulk is my fav marvel movie and im glad Norton rewrote the script and starred in it, and dissapointed in Marvel for him not being in the Avenges, but c'est la vie

@murdocksgirl - Great article. Marvel and DC fans need to stop the bickering. I hope all CBMs do well so we can get more. I didn't see GL but I was hoping that it would do good just like I'm hoping TDKR does well even though it won't pull TDK numbers :)

Im not gonna say no names.

If people are hating on Marvel right now, its because they aint happy with what they got! these people hwo call them selfs fanboy's these are the people that aint getting the super group CBM they would wand to see, they are the people that will have to start with all new numebr 1's in september, (its a gimmick and they know it!)

They are the people that are gonna see a Dark CBM change from being a Good trilogy, where we have seen a realistic character that has done good by the fans and the mainstream public, go back to a unrealistic comicly character to fit into a possible team CBM!

These are the fans that aint seeing a plan for continuity with the actors or characters lets face it they aint got no plan!! These are the fans that cant stand the fact that Marvel got this one right and that theyr studio is Fvcking up theyr CBM right now. So what do you get Haters baby!

If the shoe fits.... you know the drill!~

Stop Hating!

@Marvel72. You are partially right. What I read (and I can't remember where to save my life) was that Norton wanted more creative control and final edit approval.

HEY ANY ASPIRING ACTORS:
Never.ever. EVER. try to do someone else's job on a project. Esp. the producers and the directors. It pisses us off.
