During Sony's E3 2016 press conference, Rocksteady announced the arrival of another installment in the Batman: Arkham franchise. However, this time around, Batman: Arkham VR will allow the player to fully become the Dark Knight through the use of the PlayStation VR. The game's first trailer didn't reveal anything relating to the plot other than the possibility of the Joker (Mark Hamill) making an appearance, and the game's storyline has been kept secret until now.

ComicBook.com had an opportunity to play a demo of the upcoming Batman: Arkham VR, and it kicks off with the death of a beloved member of the Bat Family. The game starts off with Bruce Wayne entering Wayne Mansion with Alfred giving you the key to a piano, which then opens up the floor, taking you down into the Batcave. Once inside, you are able to explore every inch of the Batcave. After that, you're able to put on the Batsuit one piece of equipment at a time, such as the grappling hook, your cowl, the crime scene recreator, the environmental scanner, and of course, your batarangs. It all sounds pretty amazing, but now is the time when your heart breaks.

The site goes on to reveal that the game swiftly begins the stoyline when Alfred gives you a call, relaying the worst possible news: Nightwing is dead. The young hero is found dead in a dark alley, and through the use of your detective skills and gadgets, it's revealed that the mysterious killer beat the young hero to death with his bare hands, eventually snapping his neck. After visually recreating the death of one of DC's greatest heroes, a handprint is found belonging to a known associate of the Penguin. The demo ends with you summoning the Batwing and grappling away.

During an interview at E3, Rocksteady confirmed that the new installment is very much tied in to the Arkham Universe, but it's placement in the timeline remains a mystery. It's possible that the game takes place before the events of Batman: Arkham Knight, (providing Grayson isn't really dead, that is) where Nightwing was seen alive and well. It's just as possible that the game takes place after Arkham Knight, and the greatest sidekick in comic book history has met his end. Until then, let us know what you think about the idea of investigating the death of Nightwing in Batman: Arkham VR.

Why would they kill off Nightwing?! When is this game taking place in the Arkham-Verse?! Can we actually fight criminals?! Can we do predator/stealth sections in VR?! I MUST KNOW!

"It's possible that the game takes place before the events of Batman: Arkham Knight, where Nightwing was seen alive and well. "

Uhm, no. That's not possible and is a contradiction/continuity error.

I mean, I don't play the Arkham Games really, but killing off Dick is a big crime.

Dick is so good, why would you want to even hurt him? :(

I DEMAND JUSTICE!!!

In all seriousness I doubt the developers will just KILL Dick like that. It's likely part of an elaborate plan by a villain. My question is, which villain

A. Knows Batman well enough to know where his Batcave is
B. Has the resources to break into the Batcave

I would say it's possible either Hugo Strange, Hush or the Riddler could be behind this, because I don't see another Batman villain having A and/or be at their disposal.

I guess time will tell.

Ra's al Ghul isPOSSIBLE, but this seems out of his style. Not many Batman villains know who Bruce is. This intrigues me.

Vandal Savage is also extremely possible, but Vandal seems to preoccupied with larger tasks than to just kill Dick.
