My thoughts on the conclusion of Chris Nolan's Batman tale....

Editorial Opinion

Staying in context with the complete story that Chris Nolan is constructing, I’ve thought of a sensible step to take with the next Batman installment.

At the end of TDK, Batman is on the run. Commissioner Gordon is in a compromised position because only he knows that Batman is truly innocent. But the Mayor of Gotham would be putting pressure on Gordon, so the hunt for Batman would have to begin. It wouldn’t be an easy task, not with Batman’s skills and technologic support. So they would have to recruit a bounty hunter.

Enter Deadshot.

I think Nolan could conjure up a fantastic concept for this character and he’d be a completely new threat to Batman.

Also with Rachel Dawes now deceased, Batman hasn’t got a love interest. When have you ever seen a comic book movie without a female counterpart for the lead character???

Enter Catwoman.

Again, a new threat and I’m sure Nolan could make an interesting conflict between the two characters.

Nolan has also said this will be the final installment of his Batman series....

"Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story. And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story . . . I’m very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we’ve done with the characters. My brother has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these things don’t go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful. Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we’re telling. And it hearkens back to that priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories. That’s what we do.” – Chris Nolan, March 10th 2010

So with that in mind, what would be a good ending for the story? Throughout TDK a phrase constantly used is “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain". I could see the story ending tragically for Batman but in a heroically inspiring way. This could be a useful premise to introduce Dick Grayson because somebody would have to take up the mantle of Batman. Although Christian Bale has stated that he would leave if Robin entered the frame, I think the character of Grayson should be introduced, not Robin and after the death of Batman he'd be inspired to suit up.

Please share your own thoughts and ideas.

Nah to Catwoman...

BUT hellz yeah to DEADSHOT dude!!!!!!!!!!

BLACK MASK (in the background), DEADSHOT (hired) to hunt down a BATMAN on the run!

(Maybe DEATHSROKE too, fighting with each other to get to THE BAT first).

Good read man!

Cheers dudes.... Any ideas for castings?

@LEEE777, I reckon in the vain of 'Lucky Number Slevin' your buddy Bruce Willis would be a good shout for Deadshot!

Also, Nolan has been singing the praises of Marion Cotillard's work on 'Inception' lately. She'd make an interesting Selina Kyle!

Plus, Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Dick Grayson!

CAP @ WILLIS would be cool, my personal pick is TOM HARDY!

As for casting, heres mine dude, just click the link = BATMAN 3: SHADOW OF THE BAT MOVIE

Tell me what you think?

Gotta check out that 'Inception', but she seems cool enough!

Glad you don't want JGL for Joker lol, much better role for him!

CaptainQuirk - 6/5/2010, 5:45 AM
Yeah, Tom Hardy would be cool. Plus, the fact that he is also in 'Inception' would make him a strong candidate.

For awhile I wanted Daniel Day-Lewis for a Joker recast but now I think it's important to move away from the character.

I'm totally against the Riddler for pretty much the same reason. He's too similar to the Joker. Batman needs a new threat.

Quirk @ He's in 'Inception'? Very cool, i didn't know that dude, kudos!

Yeah i like DDL more for RED SKULL but that roles gone now lol!

I've got a feeling they are gonna go with THE RIDDLER, hopefully though, IF they do, it'll be a small cameo role than anything big, bit like SCARECROWS in DARK KNIGHT!

Did ya see my casting lol? ; D

P.S. You've got a point about RIDDLER 'n' JOKER!

Oh yeah, my apologies.... Thumbs Up!!!

It's a good solid cast. However, you've got to be careful you don't contract multi-villainitise. ;)

multi-villainitise lol, yeah! : D

I only put RIDDLER in it coz everyone wants the sucker, happy to see him much later on in a sequel or two away myself! : P

(Jokers a 5 second cameo appearance in ARKHAM).

Cool AVENGERS predictions by the way!

@brazilianbatman

You obviously know nothing so it's time for some facts!

1) Chris Nolan told Aaron Eckhart that Harvey Dent is dead. This franchise is based on realism. I think bringing someone back from the dead would contribute to '[fricking] up the franchise'.

2) Chris Nolan has said the next instalment will be the conclusion of the story.

3) Chris Nolan has said the Joker character will not be involved in the next instalment.

So next time, please refrain from posting stupid comments on my articles or subsequently do some research before you do!

@Anil Rickly

I reckon it could work either way. I have full confidence in Nolan's ability. I'm sure he'll deliver with an amazing climax to the story.

You're ludicrously delusional. You've got to be a Christian.

I think you should start preparing for disappointment now because all your ridiculous expectations will soon be disproven.

Good article but I would say no to Catwoman she is my least favorite batvillain but yes to Deadshot and they should add Black Mask, Scarface, and Bane but not all of them that would cause Spider-Man 3 syndrome. and I don't know why people don't like the idea of the Riddler I think Nolan could add his movie magic powers to him and he would be awesome.

Will somebody please report this fool to the grammar police!

@brazilianbatman

Firstly.... I don’t care if you or anybody else agrees with my thoughts. They were established logically on the basis of continuity. The very same method Chris Nolan has operated under throughout his entire career. Nolan is an accurate story teller first and foremost. All you have to do is look through his back catalogue for the proof.

Secondly.... The world of comic books doesn’t instantly translate well onto screen. Nolan knows this. That’s why this entire franchise has been based on practicality and realism.

So please, take your ridiculous mythical ideas and apply them to another franchise. Or subsequently, you can revisit 'Batman and Robin' & 'Batman Forever', because I'm sure they're more your kind of thing.

We should get a strong dude like bane or killer croc, someone who doesnt have an army of followers (jokers goons and ras al ghuls ninja) so then it would be mano-e-mano against batman. Which sounds more appealing then him facing 500 people, it would really show how skilled he is.
DCfan89
DCfan89 - 6/7/2010, 5:57 PM
i think that a successful way of tackling the task of Batman 3, especially with this being a sort of resolution and an ending, would be to incorporate the league of shadows, and introduce the idea of Raas Al Ghul being immortal but in a realistic way. bring Liam Neeson back. and then you could bring in Catwoman, who's origins are tied with the league. Story should be that Raas isnt dead and he uses Selina Kyle to get close to Bruce so that he can take him out of the picture. and you could play with the fact that Catwoman is a wildcard.
JoshCharmley
JoshCharmley - 6/8/2010, 4:29 AM
@DCfan89 Why use Catwoman when you could just use Thalia?

I agree with using the League of Shadows and bringing Liam Neeson back as Raas. But have Bane tied to the league.

I do not agree with or like the idea of Nolan killing Batman. I know he wants to end his story (which I think is a BIG Mistake) but he can't kill Batman. Maybe instead go this rout: Bane Breaks Batman’s back at the end of the film, this would bring closure to Nolan’s Batman, but leaves room for another Batman Movie. . . enter Terry McGinnis. What do ya think?
CaptainQuirk
CaptainQuirk - 6/8/2010, 9:14 AM
@DCfan89

Immortal in a realistic way? Are you nuts?? That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard in months!!!

DCfan89
DCfan89 - 6/8/2010, 1:11 PM
@JoshCharmley i agree, and i thought about thalia, but i think that to capture a broader audience, and those people not into the comics, catwoman would be the way to go, ya know? @captainquirk, i meant he couldve escaped the crash.... come on guy. be respectful
JoshCharmley
JoshCharmley - 6/9/2010, 2:02 AM
@DCfan Yea you make valid point there. lol
And I'm with ya on the "Immortal in a realistic way." We did not see Raas die, and I mean he is a Ninja, he could have easily escaped the crash.
DCfan89
DCfan89 - 6/11/2010, 12:54 AM
Exactly. we did NOT see him die, and i think that would be the best way to end the series, i want Thalia, but i think the only way we could've had her was to have had her present in Batman Begins
JoshCharmley
JoshCharmley - 6/12/2010, 8:50 PM
Plus if they used Thalia, they would probably cast Megan Fox for the role and screw it all up anyway, lol.
