Riddle Me This...is Sony Pulling Nolan's Leg?

With Sony not confirming the Lizard, and the swirling Killer Croc rumors around Nolan's third Batman film, is Sony pulling a fast one?

With the news leaking that Rhys Ifans will be playing the Lizard in the 2012 Spider-man reboot, and rumors flying that Killer Croc will be the Dark Knight's next foe, there is some concern out there about too much of the reptilian. But is the Lizard really who we'll be seeing in Spider-man? Or is Sony pulling our (and Chris Nolan's) leg?

Think about this...2012 will be home of the Avengers already, plus the new Batman and Spider-man films. With all the hype surrounding the Avengers and Batman, a Spider-man film could be knocked down a few notches on the publicity scale. In addition, fans are expecting to see quality films when it comes to Batman and the Avengers, because they are franchises already established. The Spider-man reboot however, being the first of a new series, REALLY needs to get off on the right foot. So picture this scenario...

Sony, along with everyone else, get wind of rumors that Killer Croc will be the villain in Batman 3. They hold the rights to use a similar character, the Lizard, in their Spiderman film. Now let's say someone at Sony hatches a plan to get a quick step-up on Chris Nolan and the Bat.

Sony brings Rhys Ifans on board to play 'a villain,' then lets the word leak that it will be Curt Connors, AKA the Lizard. This puts the Marvel reptilian maniac one step ahead of the DC one, and Sony gets credit for 'announcing' it first. That way, if a Killer Croc announcement is upcoming, the Croc will be the second on the scene. Plus, Nolan could be forced to reconsider choice of villain, however remote a chance that may be.

And all this really could be done at no risk by Sony. If the Lizard isn't the villain really, all they have to do is say later that Dr. Conners will be in the film, but not his alter ego.

Now, how likely is it that, even if this whole scenario is true, it would really mess up Nolan and Batman? Not very. If I were Spiderman, I'd be worried about Lizard taking a back seat to Croc, not the other way around. And yet again, I really don't think Croc will be the villain we see battling the Bat in 2012. But still, it wouldn't cost Sony a thing to pull something like this, even if true benefits are lacking.

I'm only interested in The Lizard anyway. I don't want to see Croc in a Nolan film.

If Killer Croc is in Batman 3 I will eat my hat. That rumor doesn't make a damn bit of sense. They're filming in New Orleans because of the tax incentives, just like with GL.

Yeah i don't believe the Croc rumors either, especially in Nolans universe. If Hardy is playing a villain, it won't be Croc. Black mask, Riddler or Hush is who i'd be looking at.

@DLM: I can see all three, but with Red Skull in Captain America next year, they would have to change Black Mask's face I think

"I can see all three, but with Red Skull in Captain America next year, they would have to change Black Mask's face I think"

Thats not true at all. First of all, Black Mask is obsessed with masks, period. His original mask was just a black face, not a skull. He's worn multiple masks in his career. there are MANY ways around the skull face look.

Yeah.

I'm sure Sony just totally rewrote the script to the movie they're shooting in a month and a half, to screw with another studios' comic book film.

And made the decision to make that last minute total revamp of their script based on an unsubstantiated and unrealistic rumour of what the other film may contain.

Oh yeah, I'm sure that's what happened.

They can pull his leg all they want.

Nolan is a TRUE filmmaker and will not include Croc in this movie.

I kinda had a feeling that people wouldn't read what I wrote and they would misinterpret it all.

@CornDog: I just meant that the skull wouldn't work. Actually, I should have made that more clear.

@MaxJaybo: Where did I say ANYTHING about rewriting a script? Where? NOWHERE! I even had a line saying "all this can be done at no risk to Sony." My point was it's possible that Sony may be messing with a main competitor by leaking Lizard news when its POSSIBLE that Croc will be in Batman 3. That's all! NOTHING about changing a script!

In fact I agree with KillADELFIA in that Croc won't be in Batman 3. But if you read my post I say as much.

@TheSchemer... ok. So then, let me try to understand the scenario you're presenting:

Step 1) Rumors surface of Killer Croc in Batman 3.

Step 2) Because of this, Sony "leaks" that the Lizard will be the villain in the new Spider-Man.

Step 3) So then, magically, Sony's "leak" that totally came AFTER and BECAUSE OF the Killer Croc rumor makes them "a step ahead" of Warner Bros. and Batman 3.

Is that what you're trying to say?
