Christian Bale on Public Enemies and a Third Batman

Christian Bale eats lead in PUBLIC ENEMIES and "in a fix" without Chris Nolan.........................................................

Christian Bale is in demand. With The Dark Knight breaking the billion-dollar mark and Bale getting ready to relaunch The Terminator franchise, he could very well become the Harrison Ford of this generation [at one point, Harrison Ford was in seven of the top ten highest-grossing films of all time].

After portraying the future John Connor in Terminator Salvation, Bale will portray Melvin Purvis, Special Agent with the FBI in Public Enemies, Michael Mann's Depression-era gangster pic, also starring Johnny Depp.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bale had this to say about filming the famous FBI raid on the Little Bohemia Lodge in Wisconsin:

"I fired so many bullets in those woods in the middle of the night, I was literally tasting metal for a week afterwards."

Of course, the fans at ComicBookMovie.com are more concerned about Bale's return to the cape and cowl in a sequel to The Dark Knight than they are his turn as a G-Man. So, what's the deal, Bale? Bale told TotalFilm.com:

"Will we do a third movie? It's got to be the right story. You can't make something like The Dark Knight and then come out with something disappointing. I would like it if people say, 'You'll never make a good third movie.' I say, 'OK, let's make a third movie in that case, let's prove them wrong. But that's just me. The fact is, I have to! I've signed up! Chris doesn't. So I'm in a bit of a fix if he says he doesn't want to!"

After Public Enemies, Bale will star in Bryan Singer's Prisoners alongside Mark Wahlberg.

Catch Bale in Terminator Salvation May 23rd and then in Public Enemies July 1st!

@grif: No doubt! I'm a huge Ford fan. The implication that I was making was that Bale is popping up in many of our generation's most popular, blockbuster movies--Batman, Terminator--just like Ford back in the 80's with Star Wars & Indiana Jones.

Bale rocks! He might as well hit all of the big franchises...why not go after 007 next!

Ha ha as much as I love Bale... I don't think he could do Bond.. besides, Daniel Craig wants to make 007 movies until he can't do it anymore... he's far too bad ass to give it up. But I'd love to see Bale in as many batman or terminator sequels as possible. If Nolan snobs out of a 3rd Batman movie I'm going to lose a little respect. DON'T start what you cannot finish...

I heard Bale was in the running to be bond but took himself out when the Batman gig came his way.

Supermike - you're English is almost as pathetic as your comment!

Nolan is such a freaking puss!!! I can't believe he is backing out of making the 3rd one. I hope whoeve signs on to direct outdoes Nolan and shows him that a third movie can be done and can be good...maybe not better than the second, but good none the less.

ThunderCougarFalconBird - 5/2/2009, 4:25 AM
Macksimus - Is this your gun you just jumped over? Nolan hasn't said he won't do another, in fact evidence suggests he has his eye on getting a story together now. Whether he will do it or not is yet to be seen but Bale just didn't want to speak on Nolans behalf. Which I think is very "professional" of him.

Mann is great no doubt, but he has Miami Vice on his cv..Nolan hasnt made a bad movie yet.

Yeah ill be seeing Public Enemies im sure. As for Bond, [frick] BOND! I thought they finally reinvented his out of date ass with Casino Royale..then they went back to the tip with Quantum of Bollocks. Just watch the Bourne movies

I HOPE NOLAN DOES IT, IF HE DOESN'T GET SOMEONE THAT CANDO IT JUSTICE..ID LOVE TO SEE JOHNNY DEPP AS THE RIDDLER,ANGELINA JOLIE AS CATWOMAN..MAYBE A CAMEO OF THE JOKER,I KNOW HEATH IS GONE, BUT IM SURE THERES A TALENTED ACTOR THAT CAN CAPTURE THAT HEATH IN JOKER MAKEUP, EVEN FOR A TIDBIT.

Next Harrison Ford.... NO, but Bale could possibly match or surpass Ford then we'll be saying the next Christian Bale. Anyway I hope Nolan Comes back for a third movie because it seems like Bale doesnt want to do it without him. Im not into Harrison Ford by the way I never liked any of those cheesy temple of doom movies...so far I like Bale's body of work compared to that of Ford's, but hey Im just one guy.

Pockets713 I agree Daniel Craig is the RIGHT MAN for BOND. Before Craig I never liked Bond the others just seemed so soft. I just couldnt see them as some bad a-- secret agent. Craig has an edge to him that no other BOND has had .ITS like comparing Bale's Batman to Micheal Keaton,George Clooney,Val Kilmer,or for crying out loud Adam West's Batman LOL. Batman was just like Superman up to this piont it SUCKED until Bale same goes for Bond IT SUCKED until CRAIG.

Blade, supermike is sooo right. Craig SUCKS! Both of his Bond movies SUCK! And the retard wanted Bond to have a "homosexual" experience. Are you kidding me? BOND IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE A LADIES MAN!!!
Oh, and Bale sucks too! He tried way to hard on the Dark Knight as Batman. Did a okay Bruce Wayne, but I just cant stand the way his mouth moves. Plus he is a whine bag who if he does not get his exact way he throws a cry baby tantrum. Oh, yeah cuz he is so much better than every other actor in the world right? NOT!
BLADE4040
BLADE4040 - 5/2/2009, 4:12 PM
comicbookmom : OK we can agree to disagree. Didnt see or hear about the HOMO experience thank goodness that didnt happen. LOVE BALE as BATMAN.... BEST one yet.....Bale rules as BATMAN!!!!!

The Program - I'm sick of people bashing Bales Batman voice! At 1st I thought it was a little suspect but then I started to think about it in more depth and I've realised what a brilliant touch it is.

In Nolan's Batman world everything is very real. With that in mind, put yourself in Bruce Wayne's shoes. You are one of the richest people in the world and therefore a voice that is heard often. You have done the job of hiding your face but that voice could blow the whole gig. What do you do? Put on a voice. If you think about it, the voice he uses is the voice any of us would use in that situation. Something easy to keep going an keep constant, something that also fits in with the look. This just adds to the realism of the film.

rushx5 - 5/3/2009, 3:53 AM
About Bale's voice in Batman, if he just speak "normally" then there is a good chance that someone will know he is Bruce Wayne. Think of Gordon, Bruce spoke with him both as Batman and Wayne. If Bruce didn't alter his voice somewhat then people around him (good or bad) will know his identity e.g. Harvey Dent, Gordon, His employees etc

People!!! Nothing wrong with Bale's BATMAN voice! Its cool, an it would strike fear into criminals, KEATON did it too by the way! Good points also @ HOWLETT04 & RUSHX5 @

@Rush
I'd sacrifice a bit of realism if it meant that I didn't have to hear that Alec-Baldwin-as-Cookie-Monnster voice.

Howlett04,rushx5,and LEEE777 I GUESS WE ALL UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE I HAVE A SECRET GOING ON AND BY THE WAY IM ONLY HUMAN. What do you guys think of Daniel Craig's oo7?
LEEE777

BLADE4040 - I could just copy and paste LEEE777's comment here! Only seen Casino Royale but have to say it was how bond SHOULD be! The last few films had tried to copy the XXX insane stunt fest and that just isn't bond. Casino had good stunts like the opening chase but that's all bond should be. I loved how that guy has so acrobatic and Bond was all "martial and no art" but still got his man just through true British grit!
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 5/4/2009, 8:58 AM
BLADE4040 @ ; ) An HOWLETT04 @ Ya gotta see QUANTUM its a good movie, if you like CASINO you'll love this one!!! An lol i actually quite liked XXX (don't hate me, only the 1st one lol), yeah it was too JAMES BOND but i thought it was quite a entertaining and fun movie, there's alot worst out there heh heh! Also this PUBLIC ENEMIES looks really good, i just may go an watch that.

ThunderCougarFalconBird - 5/4/2009, 12:21 PM
LEEE777 - XXX (1) wasn't too bad. Like you said, there's a lot worse! I just didn't agree with Bond following that formula. XXX and Bond are both spy franchises but that's where the similarities end. They are very different characters and should be handled differently. The Bond men forgot that for a while.

Blade no one will ever be better than Micheal Keaton as batman! And no one will ever be better than Connery as Bond!

Personally, I think Craig's Bond kicks major @$$! Yes, I loved the old Sean Connery 007's for what they were, but that was that generation's version of cool: the suave, "rat pack" sort of Vegas charm. Craig, on the other hand, is just naturally cool, but he has the aggression and body to pull off a super secret agent!

My vote: Craig wins!

Now, onto Bale...

The voice is essential to A) Menace his enemies (if someone ever talked like that to you in real life, you would think they are were a murderer, psycho or Randy "The Macho Man" Savage fan, all of which are creepy; and B) He needs to sound like Bruce Wayne considering how many members of law enforcement he encounters.

My vote: Bale's voice wins!

Finally, "best" Batman...

Michael Keaton surprised everyone--literally, everyone--with his performance. He is a great actor and he made a great Bruce Wayne. His Batman was a little weak and I feel like I'm watching a cartoon when I watch Burton's movies today, so...

My vote: Bale is the best Batman (so far)!

I have to say Craig's Bond sucked a$$ Matt Damon does a better bond in the Bourne movies then Craig’s faggot a$$ I heard him wanting a gay seen in the movie along time ago but if everyone wants a bond that is dumb, ripped, and takes it in the ass more power to you.
as for bale I am not against him he gets the job done but the "I am taking a shit" voice gets old quick Keaton’s voice change was way better and the new batman is a pussy how is he scary he never kills anyone at least in the old batman you f-ed up Keaton killed your ass that’s way scarier than a shitting my bat suit voice

If Craig wanted Bond to take it in the a$$, then he would be, Bumm... James Bumm. That's a really F-ed up thought about Mr. Flemming's character. Do not turn our Heroes into Fudge packers to accommodate today's Homo-charged audiences... If they want that crap, there's always HBO. Keep it out of my Superhero/Comicbook Movies!
