Liam Neeson Says He Would "Like To" Return As Rhas Al Ghul In TDKR

In a bit of a turn around, the actor has reiterated that the rumors of his return to the franchise are just that, but adds that he would like to come back if the offer went out to him..

Last we heard from Neeson regarding the rumors of his return for Chris Nolan's final Bat movie were that it was definitely not on going to happen(read about that HERE). IGN reported the info second hand with no actual quotes from the actor. But it certainly sounded as if he had no wish to return, as they suggested he wasn't even fussed with the movie he did appear in(Batman Begins). Well now we hear what he has to say in a recent interview first hand, with a little addition that he would be open to returning if he was asked..

“That rumour is totally not true. In the comic books, Ra’s Al Ghul goes into a life bath of some sort and immerses himself to become immortal; So that’s probably where that comes from.

“But no-one’s approached me with an offer. I’d like to if it happens.”

With the recent (possible) leaked plot details pointing to Rhas Al Ghul's daughter Talia being involved in the movie, would a small part for Neeson be something fans wanted to see? Either way, despite his expressed desire to come back it's doubtful there will be any turn around from Nolan regarding the script at this late stage. Still, you never know I guess.

He's 'reappearance' in a flashback could add some backstory to the film and fill in some gaps if his daughter's in the movie. Him coming back as a result of the Lazerus pit might be a bit much for the audience. Pulling off Bane is a stretch as it is with Nolan's 'practical' approach to these films.

I'm pretty sure that in the Nolanverse, no one has any special powers (ala, coming back from the dead), so I don't see Ra's al Ghul coming back.
I do think that flashbacks would help the story should Talia be in it.

@SuperConnerKent

yes his Immortal in the comics but Nolanverse his just a normal person so most likely his dead.

i think they should bring him back but they wont...i think cuz they neva actually showed his body after he died i think it would cool to have him come back and be like he got off the train and survived which would work with the realism of nolanvers and immortalness of ra's in the comix

Ras Al Ghul is the best Batman villain ever and is he match. He has been my favorite since I began reading the comics in the 80s. As far it being based on reality well you don't really need the pit because a body was never shown. You just saw Batman jump then a few seconds later the train crashed.

It would really turn Batman´s life upside down if Ras would return.

If the rumors are true, is anyone else concerned that this is approaching Spider Man 3 territory, in that we are trying to shove way too much into a 3 hour movie? Talia, Bane, Black Mask, Catwoman....with or without Ras, will there be any time for.....y'know....BATMAN?

If they bring Ras Al Ghul back then they may as well bring back Joker (played by someone else that is since we no longer have Ledger)in TDKR.

Could JGL possibly be playing a younger, post Lazarus pit Ras? If they're going the Lazarus pit route I'd rather they use Liam and use the same techniques from Tron Legacy to make him young again.

I'd be ok with a cameo, but not too big a role, this film seems to be getting a bit overcrowded, and I don't know if even Chris Nolan could pull that off... having said that, a present day cameo would be better than a flashback, maybe bed ridden since the train crash and being behind the scenes while Talia becomes the face of the League of Shadows.

Liam Neeson and Ray Park(Darth Maul) were the best actors in Episode 1 . He was the man in Batman Begins and I've always liked him as an actor. SO YEAH NOLAN PUT HIM IN TDKR because it would add more tension to the film. Maybe Selina Kyle steals something from the League of Shadows and Bane helps out with them in tracking her down and Batman gets involved. THERE YOU HAVE IT. AM I GREAT OR WHAT!

@ Brone, the third comment in the thread, posted by Spider1489. Not sure where 1489 got the info, but I figured it gave me a reason to voice a concern I was starting to have already. As much as I want to see so many different characters, maybe I should just stop worrying about the rumors and assume, until further notice, that Bane and Catwoman are all that we will see.

Neither Talia nor Black Mask have been anywhere near "confirmed". So stop assuming it's going to happen.

It is obviously debunked now. Did you read that far yet? The article isn't very long.

"“Rhas”? Sorry, shouldn’t chuck stones, because my spelling is horrible & my typing is worse, plus I’d be surprised if there isn’t several mistakes in my following fanboy rant, but come on, it’s the name of the character & it’s in the title of the article, I just find that very funny. =D

I’d love to see the character return, he’s the man that trained Batman, so he may well have found another way to escape, but they should’nt explain it, his escape should be ambiguous with a sprinkle of mystery, as a nod to the fans. Personally I’d rather Ra’s return in the form of a younger actor, Bruce would refuse to believe that this could be the same man, that it must be a con of some kind, for a reason that is even beyond him, but something is so familiar & he knows things that he shouldn’t know, but again his true origin would be left ambiguous so it never conflicts & even appears to side more towards the realistic answer, but leaves a small gap of possibility open for the hard core comic book fans wish through. Either way if he returns, it should be from within a thick cloud of mystery.

Liam Neeson defines the word awesome.

I'd love to see him come back in this, even if it just a cameo.
