I know... I know... This is total Bull@#%*! I don't know how this paper stays in business as a news source. But how could we not report this? It's just too funny. Check out the pic of Eddie.

UPDATED: 12/18/2008 - As prophesied, no sooner did this story go up, when it was immediately debunked by CinemaBlend sources. But really, did ANYONE actually believe this rubbish?

This from The Sun...

Eddie is Riddler in new Batman
By GORDON SMART and JESS ROGERS

Published: 18 Dec 2008

FUNNYMAN EDDIE MURPHY will play The Riddler in the next Batman movie, The Sun can reveal.

The Beverly Hills Cop star, 47, has been signed up by British director CHRISTOPHER NOLAN to reprise the role played by JIM CARREY in 1995’s Batman Forever.

The surprise move follows speculation linking Pirates of the Caribbean star JOHNNY DEPP to the part.

The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working title Gotham.

Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22, to play Robin.

CHRISTIAN BALE will return as Bruce Wayne, while MICHAEL CAINE will again play Bruce’s assistant Alfred.

Meanwhile, Brit RACHEL WEISZ is said to be up for the Catwoman role.

Insiders also revealed to The Sun the flick will end on a cliffhanger over whether Batman survives a blast at Wayne Towers.

Nolan had been tight-lipped about the future of the Batman films after being rocked by the January death of HEATH LEDGER — tipped to receive a posthumous Oscar for his role as The Joker in Batman Returns.

A film insider said: “Chris wasn’t sure if he wanted to do another movie but as soon as he decided to, he got the wheels in motion.

“Eddie’s a fantastic addition. Everyone’s excited to see what he does as the Riddler.”

Start sending the hateful emails now. (Not to us, but to The Sun!)

I wish I owned a nationally purchased newspaper that could make up random things and call it news. And better yet, have people pay money for it.
I am pretty sure that the resounding success of Dark Knight will spawn a third film, but really, Eddie Murphy....
I will personally slap anyone who beleives that paper

THAT IS RETARDED! CBM I can't even believe you posted this article and instead of adressing that the whole thing is stupid, you decide you want to get upset that you didn't get the scoop first. Understand this. Shia LaBeouf is Obviously too old to play Robin, Eddie Murphy is too black to play the Riddler (I perfer to be accurate as appose to empowering.) And Christian Bale already said in a previous interview that as long as he's Batman, there will be no Robin. This whole article is rediculous. None of this is real.

Eric Roberts who was in the last movie would make the perfect Riddler. He knows information that others don't, Batman dropped him off a building, giving him a limp and the need for a cane. What more do you guys want? He's also a great actor!

Shia wouldn't be a terrible choice for a Robin but he'd have to work on being more of a badass like Batman.

Eddie Murphy however...BULLS**T! I still say if they use the Riddler, They should use the red headed guy from that show "Life".

That's just my opinion.

Ok obviously BS, blah, blah, blah...

Let me put this out there. Heath Ledger was an amazing Joker, the character did not perish in THE DARK KNIGHT, and unfortunately the BEST actor to portray the Joker did. So if Chris Nolan makes a third movie...

1) How does he make a movie without the Joker in it, once he's been introduced as such an important figure?
2) If he has the Joker in a sequel, how the hell does anyone step in for Heath Ledger. I say it's impossible.

They can't just say "Oh the Joker's in Arkham and we never need to see him for this movie." Can they? That just seems wrong. Even Scarecrow got like five minutes of screen time in THE DARK KNIGHT and, while excellent, was nothing compared to Ledger as Joker. See what I'm saying? I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking this.

I would be interested to see Johnny Depp as Riddler, or I'd like them to maybe dig for some crazier characters like The Ventriloguist and Scarface. The great things about these new Nolan movies is that they didn't arbitrarily pick villains or characters to put into it. All the characters worked with the theme of the movie.

BATMAN BEGINS was all about the power of fear and the creation of symbols. BAM! Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow...perfect.

THE DARK KNIGHT was all about a human's breaking point and "living long enough to see yourself become the villain", more or less. BAM! Joker and Two-Face...PERFECT!

I'm nervous and anxious, but I trust Nolan if he's the one still behind it. Best comic book movie director I've seen in a long time.

PS: korn kid...Kingpin has been white as wonder bread forever. No ripping...just informing.

Hey Gambits...

As for Eric Roberts..."He's also a great actor"? No, no, no...got to stop this. Please name me 3 movies that Mr. Roberts is good in. If you can, I will gladly submit, my friend.

I don't mind having Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury. He was, after all, the model for the Ultimate Nick Fury, but the Riddler is not and never has been black. I'm not ignorant or racist I just wouldn't want Will Smith to play Superman. Will agrees with me

Everybody seems so upset over such a silly article! Why so serious? Not that it's hard to notice but isn't it funny that they bothered putting Eddie Murphy's head on the Riddler picture but the hands are still lily white? In all seriousness though, it would be hard to write off a character like the joker with some line about being in Arkham or something...luckily Chris Nolan isn't a shitty director so IF there is another Batman movie, I'm sure they'll think of something. Johnny Depp would be a terrible Riddler by the by. Maybe none of you remember Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I bet a million dollars Depp's Riddler would behave in a similar fashion. I think the strength of the new Btaman franchise is in it's attempts to make such an outlandish universe so tangible and relative. I imagine the Riddler would be more of a serial killer with the clues and what not. And before everyone pisses their pants, Jonny Depp is a great actor, I just don't think he's right for this. He's too big. Steve Buscemi would be cool. He's all wormy and creepy.

In my opinion, this is a hoax to create more controvercy. Mabe Eddie has friends at that paper and just wanted to know what the fans thought of a black riddler as he, himself, is desperately searching a comeback of epic proportions.

As for who should be the riddler, me, myself, and i, the castmaster won't even bother making an editorial article in "My Secret Identity Picks" on this because there is simply "no contest"! My favorite version of riddler is a much more serious and existancial version than the idiocy portrayed by any of the previous actors appointed to the task. I enjoy watching "The Batman" animated series and i find that they're version is the best one and the one and only actor that SHOULD play the role is none other than JOHNNY DEPP!!! Not because of skin color or age or looks. I'm talking MAJOR TALENT here, a talent that absolutely needs to pick up where Heath Ledger left off. And why the HELL would he play the Riddler "just like" Charlie in the chocolate factory??? When HE is one of the most divercified actors in the business! I'm pretty sure he'd incorporate a bit of his character in "Once upon a time in Mexico" which was THE ONLY decent part of that shithole movie. And He's always been able to bring something new to each character so there simply isn't any better actor out there than him for Nigma's part.

Now whether or not Eddie has the talent for the role just hasn't been proven yet. The only actuall "serious" role he's ever played was "Boomerang" and the only thing that ever comes to mind when i think of that pile of dogshit movie is Grace Jones spewin'out a perfume from her loins in the "advertisment" of her company. So he simply doesn't have the experience on his "résumé" to back his interest in the role. Mabe he wants to show us that he can actually act however, Batman isn't a "trial" type movie. It's a Megablockbuster and if you wanna be a part of it, it's just like "A night at the Roxberry", you gotta be on "the list". Sorry Eddie, back at the end of the line and park your Ferrary on the other side of the street...loved you in Beverlyhills cop 1 and 2... 3 sucked ass! Metro was better.

As for Eric Roberts, yes yes, Julia's own brother, he sucks BUT he's not himself without a few "good" performances which follow:

-Best ot the Best (comfort classic even though by today's standards, it sucks balls and gargles)
-The specialist (even though Stalone was the spotlight, Roberts was a decent badguy)
-TDK (Great mob boss)
-Heroes 1st season (Again, decent bad guy)

All the comic book characters that changed races.
1. Nick Fury
2. Cat Women
3. King Pin

Eddie would not make a good riddler because he is not right for the role, not because he is black. Chris Nolan would have to change the riddler character to fit normal society. Like when they only painted the joker face white, and didn't give him laughing gas. Or when ra's al ghul died instead if living forever like in the comics.

...and THAT'S just not cool, Ror. But seriously, stupid news from an obviously shyte newspaper, what are they? Like, the Daily Babbler of the UK?

Oh, and Ink, it actually DID accomplish what I set out to do. So, just because you didn't like it, TOUGH TATAS! Shameless self prmotion, got to love it. Although I do see how it could become obnoxious. But, oh well.

I don't think it really matters who gets cast for Catwoman, she needs to be athletic, hot, seductive and alluring. Of course the person either has to HAVE those traits or be able to portray them beievably on screen. I don't think that's much of a stretch for a lot of female actors, so it doesn't truly matter to me who is cast as Selina Kyle. HOWEVER, I would like to see Killer Croc and Scarecrow (again). Or Hush and Riddler. Those would be sweet
