I have a theory about the ending that may answer a lot of questions....MAJOR SPOILERS

Ok so people are wondering about the ending, was it Alfred's imagination? Is Bruce dead or alive?
The Pearls that belonged to Bruce's mother are the key. When Selina stole them Bruce and Alfred were the only ones who knew the Pearls were trackable...it is mentioned at the end that the pearls are missing, so Afred traces them to the cafe that Selina and Bruce are at!! Amazing ending to an amazing trilogy, we are truly lucky to have such a great Batman trilogy given to us.

So What do you think about the ending?

I think surviving a blast like that is more far-fetched than aliens pouring through a portal in NYC

Did you people not pay attention, they found out at the end that the auto pilot was fixed after all so he just jumped ship early. Is it really that complicated?

I knew Alfred was really seeing Bruce finally happy at the end because why would he just imagine Bruce being there with Selina when he didnt know much about her, only that she was one of the housemaids, and not knowing what she and Bruce had gone through together in the film....So it wasn't Alfred's imagination, it was a true happy ending for Bruce as well as Alfred himself.

One of the stupidest parts of the ending was "Robin" -_- how is someone with absolutely no training going to survive morethan 1 night as the new batman/Robin/Nightwing/Whatever

I'm pretty sure Bats jumped ship when there was that random explosion before the bat crossed over the bridge with the bomb. And i think they just cut to bruce in the bat before the explosion for dramatic effect.

@Bizzaro he was batman for about 1-2 years. The time during BB, then i believe a 4 month gap between TDK and BB and then the time during TDK. In terms of being worn down. Not only did he sustain a lot of physical and emotional damage during those two films, but don't forget that after BB he spent 4 months cleaning up the narrows and Gotham.

I'm of the opinion that Nolan's Batman is dead.

That's my entire problem with Blake or anyone else "picking up the mantle of the bat." Bruce Wayne devoted every single moment of 7 years of his life (longer in the comics) to traveling the globe, finding and training under all of the world's greatest detectives, martial artists, and manhunters. If some regular beat cop can just take up being Batman one day, doesn't that kind of lessen Bruce's dedication and accomplishment? IF it's that easy, maybe I'll just go become an Olympic gold medalist in a bunch of different events next month.

The ending was a cow shit.
The worst of the 3 movies.

@sentinel great point I was kinda thinking the same thing, but I think Blake will make his own hero out of respect to Batman, such as robin...kinda pissed Bruce left but I hope they make a sequel in this universe

John Blake = Tim Drake who also deduced Bruce Wayne was batman in the comics

I am fairly astonished when I read all the bitching about Robin. Who cares. Bane was sick. Different from the comics in a lot of ways but overall this movie was the best of the 3. Slurp on a testicle if you think otherwise.

Why would they give explanation for Bruce's survival if it were just Alfred's imagination in the end?

@Ha1frican

It's like what Ra's taught Bruce: "Training is nothing. Will is everything. The will to act." Blake definitely had the will to take on the mantle of Batman.

you people are over thinking it. remember in the key seen where alfred leaves, he tells bruce about that cafe and how it was his fantasy during those 7 years he was away to look across the room and see bruce sitting there with kids and a wife. showing up at the cafe was just bruce's way of letting only alfred know that he is alive and well. no "maybe it was a fantasy" or mess like that, it's plain and simple; it's right there in front of your eyes.

Seriously... not every movie is Inception. I didn't even know the ending could be interpreted differently then what we were shown. It was clear Batman did not die and he took steps letting those close to him know. Lucius figured out he was alive when it was revealed that the autopilot was fixed... Gordon discovered the fact when he found the Batsignal repaired... and Alfred when Bruce let himself be seen in the cafe that he visits same day every year. That and JGL will be Robin, as stated by the use of his full name. One of the parts I didn't enjoy, but made sense since wider audiences would understand he'd be Robin that way as opposed to his real name being Tim Drake, Jason Todd or Dick Grayson... in which case only comic nerds would get it. So to wrap it up, Batman is alive, Catwoman is kicking it with him and John Blake is on his journey to being trained as Robin.
