THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Tops Another 2012 Best-Of Poll

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Tops Another 2012 Best-Of Poll

The Bat comes in at #1 for top Australian critic Leigh Paatsch - The Avengers also finds a place on his Top 10 for the year.

One of Australia's most prominent and nationally syndicated film writers, Leigh Paatsch, has placed The Dark Knight Rises at the top of his list of the best cinema that 2012 had to offer.

Best Ten Films of 2012

1. The Dark Knight Rises
Christopher Nolan ended his consistently brilliant, forever game-changing Batman trilogy on sustained notes of elation, exhaustion and deep contemplation. If every blockbuster event picture was a third as good as this, our faith in mainstream filmmaking would be unshakeable. Here's hoping these excellent works were not just an exception to the rule, but an example others will follow.

Rounding out Paatsch's Top 10 are:

2. Beasts of the Southern Wild
3. Argo
4. The Sessions
5. Looper
6. Moonrise Kingdom
7. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
8. Magic Mike

9. The Avengers
After many years in the works, Marvel Entertainment's master plan to conquer the world box-office with their stable of thoroughbred superheroes went off without a hitch. A truly epic action picture positively pulses with panache, wit and excitement throughout.

10. The Artist

TDKR also featured in the top 2 film moments of the year.

Top 10 Movie Moments of 2012:

1. The bomb blast at a packed football stadium in The Dark Knight Rises
2. Alfred bids farewell to Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Rises

Tom Hardy also makes the list of Strongest Performances of the year, while Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-Man made #7 on the list of 10 Great Movie Pairings of 2012.

Forget all the stupid fighting and arguing, I personally thinks it's terrific that 2 CBMs are included in a recognised critic's 10 best of the year. I know critics' opinions count for very little in the long run, but I also think it shows how far the CBM genre has come in the last 10 years, in being accepted as genuinely good filmmaking as well as entertaining escapism.

He chose The Avengers over The Artist as well. Personally, I think Argo is the movie of the year hands down (though I haven't seen Django Unchained or Zero Dark Thirty yet). I also don't think Looper and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo would rate anywhere near as highly on my list - they were both solid but unexceptional IMO, Skyfall was better than both.

How a movie that has as many problems gets movie of the year is beyond me. It's a very average movie that comes off as intelligent, but when you really think about it's not. Had this been made by someone less respected than Nolan I don't think this movie would get the recognition it does.

@ marvel72 it's an Australian news site those 2 movies both opened here a few weeks after their US release dates, so both 2012 releases down under.

RISES doesn't touch AVENGERS not in a million years! :P

It was okay, 'cept the last 5 minutes, but even the new Spider-Man was much much better!

An I'm a BIG DC fan!

Still role on JUSTICE LEAGUE, should beat even AVENGERS easy!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

Hey yo Marvel! ; D

AVENGERS was the movie of the year, nothing else came even close.... come on AVENGERS II!

These articles are getting a little repetitive. Yes, The Dark Knight Rises was an awesome film, I think most people would accept that. It seems to me that most of these lists are placing The Avengers way below where it should be too. I liked The Dark Knight Rises more overall than The Avengers, but still The Avengers is a very very close second. And by the way, where's Skyfall on this list? I guess everyones entitled to their opinion.

it's funny the same people who tend to diss the critics and their silly top 10 lists would commend em once the lists go THEIR way.

Far from awesome, okay(ish) at best and worst ending ever with all the plot holes thrown in for good measure... still I'll give you it was still better than Batman & Robin : D

Yo Marvel again! ; D

@marvel that's because you are in denial. You are a marvle fanboy and for that reason you can't admit that TDKR is an excellent movie, it's fine if you don't like it but to call it trash and saying its not even worth being in your top ten it's ridiculous. You should try being a real fanboy seriously.

@leee777 you should look up the definition plot holes before you say that because TDKR actually didn't have any. There may be things you didn't understand or liked which is fine but it had no plot holes.

That being said, how many critic sites and such that TDKR is declared the best movie of 2012? Lol
