With the first Box Office Rumble, we took a look at 2015 and asked which film would make more: Avengers: Age of Ultron or Star Wars VII? Now we will jump to 2016 and take a look at two huge films: Batman v. Superman and Avatar 2.

BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Positive:

Out of all the many comicbook movies being released in 2016, it seems that Batman v. Superman is the most anticipated. We have seen both Batman and Superman on the big screen countless times, but for the first time in history we will see them in the same live-action movie together.
Though people complained at first about Ben Affleck being casted as Bruce Wayne/ Batman, it seems like that hate has faded away. In set pictures, Affleck actually looks just like Bruce Wayne has in previous animated incarnations.
We also have the cast of Man of Steel returning for this movie, so a lot of viewers are already familiar with these characters and the actors who portray them. It does seem that the majority of movie goers will be going to see Batman.
Though we do know that Superman can bring in the crowd by looking at how Man of Steel made $116,619,362 on its opening weekend. With the huge hype and following of Batman after Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, we know that Batman can bring in the big bucks also.

Negative:

It seems like this film is suffering from the Spider-Man syndrome, meaning trying to shove too many characters and story lines into one film. So many characters have been announced that it has become overwhelming to remember. Cyborg, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Lex Luthor for example, are just a few characters in a very long list. Though some of these characters might just have small cameos in the film, it still just seems like too much.
Though it may benefit from the recent Batman films, this film may also suffer from living in the shadow of Nolan's trilogy that ended just four years prior. Since day one since Affleck was announced, people started complaining that if it isn't Christian Bale's Batman, they aren't going to see it(Which we all know is bull).
This movie also follows a lot of hate from people who disliked Man of Steel and Superman's actions in that film. Though it will be only a few, there will be people who won't see this just because they feel like Man of Steel "raped their childhood".

Final Thoughts:

This film will definitely rule the box office for a few weeks after its release, and will hopefully get great reception, which will cause even more people to come out. Even those people who are very skeptical of this film will still come out to see it out of curiosity.

AVATAR 2

Positive:

Well for starters, AVATAR is the most successful movie of all time(box office wise), grossing $2,787,965,087 world wide. Avatar set the bar for CGI, making an entire world and species out of CGI. People walked out of the theater amazed by what they just witnessed.
3D helped this film out a lot by stunning people with it's amazing eye popping visuals of the planet Pandora. A lot of work was put into Avatar, and the same will happen for it's sequel, which is being helmed again by film wizard, James Cameron, who seems to have the
Midas Touch when it comes to films and their success.
Cameron will not be giving viewers the same thing as the first movie, as he has stated that he will change how underwater scenes are filmed, by filming 7 miles underwater in the Mariana Sea, which is the lowest place on Earth. Cameron always stays ahead of his time by forging new ways films are made. Not only should we be asking if it will make more money than Batman V. Superman, we should be asking if it will make more money than the first AVATAR film. Which ,honestly, is hard to tell.

Negative:

The reason it is hard to tell is that the first film established the world and its characters, which, for some, could be a draw back. Though it is nearly impossible to deny the depth and beauty cinematically of AVATAR, the plot may be met with less praise. The story is most often described as "Dances with Wolves in space" , so people may have felt that the story was too familiar to what they have seen previously.
Along with a so/so story, the film didn't have a stand out cast either, aside from Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver. Unfortunately, the weakest part of this film were the protagonist and the antagonist. Though both of their motives were clear, their performances were disappointing and weak. Sam Worthington is an alright actor, but he made his scenes awkward and his lines poorly delivered.  The antagonist played by Stephen Lang is so annoying to the point that I try to skip most of his scenes.

Final Thoughts:

Though the AVATAR film is not one of my favorites, it was good enough that I will go to the theater opening weekend to see the sequel and I can guarantee that anything by James Cameron will be worth the ticket price and that your theater will be pretty much packed.

What I Think:

Even though I am anticipating Batman v. Superman way more than AVATAR 2, I think that AVATAR will make more money in the box office. But of course, I may be wrong since its just an opinion.

Which film do you think will make more money? Any suggestions for BOX OFFICE RUMBLE #3? Sound off below!

BvS doesn't have too many characters in it. Avatar's sequel has come too late and it's kind of unnecessary.

F[ri]ck Avatar!

I think Avatar 2 will make the most money. Avatar had amazing 3D visuals but the story is something the audience has seen before.

Batman V. Superman is going to make an ass load no doubt. BUT, billion dollars It will not. It's coming off of mixed reception from Man of Steel, understandably so cause that wasn't a good movie. It's coming off of so many mixed to negative responses to the castings and it's the first non Christopher Nolan Batman. It has a lot going against it. But, if word of mouth is at least decent. I can see it reaching 850-950. It would've been lower but, it's Batman and he's overrated but people love him so yeah, he's going to cause a massive bump.

batman v.superman will make nice amount of doe, however if we go by what the first movie took avatar 2 will destroy it.

even if avatar 2 makes half of what the first movie made,it'll still be close to $1.5 billion box office takings.

Batman: $411,348,924
Batman Returns: $266,822,354
Batman Forever: $336,529,144
Batman & Robin: $238,207,122
Batman Begins: $374,218,673
The Dark Knight:$1,004,558,444 (originally $997 million)
The Dark Knight Rises: $1,084,439,099

Batman did as well as it did at the boxoffice in recent years because of how good Christopher Nolan's films are. This is a new Batman, let alone played by Ben Affleck whom I support in the role, it's going to take a bump at the boxoffice. Plus, your numbers don't make any sense. Maybe $250 worldwide once it's opening weekend has ended but not In N.A alone. We're 1% of the boxoffice. The GA doesn't give a [frick] who it has in it outside of the titular characters as long as the movie itself is good. Then base the word of mouth and reception of Man of Steel into the possible numbers for Batman V. Superman. It's going to do monster numbers. But, I respectfully disagree and I agree to disagree on this debate. Avatar 2? Yeah, unnecessary for sure. @BatzFTWfan

Batman v Superman should do anywhere between Iron Man 3 and Avengers numbers.

Sadly, Avatar 2 will make more money, because stupidity.

"I honestly believe in a market swarmed by superheroes and comic book movies, Avatar 2 making a billion again would have to have hell freeze over."

BAM, conversation over.

You're trying to compare a film that had an excellent first entry in the series but now has had a several year wait for the second entry to a film starring the two largest superheroes on the face of the earth...

And you think Avatar 2 will make more than BvS?

I hate to be blunt but you are a dumbass.

If WB was smart they'd pump out a trailer during the Super Bowl (2016) game to create hype for the film.

That ALONE would guarantee huge ass cash.

im a huge comic book movie fan but I think avatar 2 could win this. I expect avatar 2 to do well. but it has been a long time since the last one so maybe it might lose its momentum

i expect bvs to gross well over a billion but I dont know if it will outdo avatar 2. I expect both movies to do huge numbers

BvS will make about 1.3ish. Avatar I think will make roughly a billion. Not many people really liked the first one. The second one will have to have amazing visuals to get that same "It is so cool special effects" feel. Avengers I think will top 2bill. Starwars 7 I think will be just under a billion.

You'd have to be crazy to go see Avatar 2. First one was garbage an Cameron has already gotten enough cash from releasing garbage. What happened to the James Cameron of the 80's???
EdgyOutsider
EdgyOutsider - 10/6/2014, 6:58 PM
@BatzFTWfan: Here's the difference. Within five films we were introduced to Iron Man, Thor, Cap, Hulk, Black Widow and a Hawkeye cameo. Batman V. Superman has just those two, the general audience doesn't know nor care about Wonder Woman so, I doubt she'll play a factor at all until the film comes out.
