OPINION: How BATMAN V SUPERMAN Will Improve On MAN OF STEEL's Shortcomings

Let's take a look at what we know so far from the upcoming film Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and speculate how it will improve the aspects of Man Of Steel that came up short.

Hey CBM! Now that Man Of Steel is out of the way and BvS: Dawn of Justice is next up for the DC Cinematic Universe, I wanted to analyze what the upcoming film might bring to the table and speculate how it may improve what I consider to be weaknesses in what they've already established in MOS.

What We Know So Far

Let's take a quick look at some things we already know. Considering Zack Snyder will be directing BvS: Dawn of Justice we can expect the visuals to look amazing. Hans Zimmer is set to return as well, so it's safe to assume the score to the upcoming movie will be spectacular once again. Henry Cavill and Amy Adams are back as Clark and Lois of course. The big newcomer will be Ben Affleck taking the role of the legendary character Bruce Wayne/Batman. Another significant addition is Gal Godot as the Amazon princess Wonder Woman, who will be joining the cast in what is believed to be an extended cameo that could be compared to the supporting role Scarlett Johansson played in Iron Man 2. The one adversary we know of for the film so far is Lex Luthor who will be portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg. As for the plot, Snyder has referred to drawing inspiration from the remarkable graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns as he's been quoted saying “We’re not adapting this thing(The Dark Knight Returns), but it is the thing that will help us tell that story.”Even the footage shown at San Diego Comic Con depicted Batman wearing armor that looks very similar to the suit he wore when he faces off against Superman in TDKR.

How This Will Improve On Man Of Steel

-Character Development

To me it seemed like some of the characters in MOS seemed almost soulless and underdeveloped. As if they had no personality whatsoever. The unfortunate thing is one of these characters was Kal El himself. The way he carried himslef throughout the movie was so somber and depressing it was almost astonishing that this was a movie about Superman. Just because he's an alien doesn't mean he can't have any definitive personality traits. I think this can be improved on in BvS becuase he'll be able to play off of another fellow hero in Batman. The parallels between the two should give Clark a concrete identity and help the viewer have a destinct idea of his character.

The Daily Planet in Man of Steel Batman V Superman Supposedly Set Two Years After Man of Steel

At the end of MOS we seen that Clark has been given a job at The Daily Planet. According to numerous news articles a statue has been seen on the set of BvS and is being presented in Superman's honor by the mayor of Metropolis. The scene is rumored to take place roughly two years after the catastrophe in MOS, meaning that Clark will have been using the dual personality aspect of his character that we all are familiar with for a while which should make people like myself who had issues with the lack of insight to why and what he was doing in MOS. This should give us a further look at his desire to coexist with the humans of Earth in turn making his character more rich.

-Story

The story in MOS was also lacking in my opinion. It was essentially all about Clark wandering aimlessly from place to place until Zod shows up and begins trying to save his race of Kryptonians by obtaining the codex (a device that contains the DNA of trillions of people from his home planet Krypton) that was intertwined with Kal El's blood before he was sent to Earth. We don't know much about the story in BvS yet but it will almost certainly be added some spice by introducing Bruce Wayne/Batman who will already be well versed in his crime fighting career and as Batman will bring his no nonsense attitude to a fairly new hero in Superman. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor will contribute some much needed personality to clash with as well. In this version of Lex it's rumored that he will be a young businessman with a giant ego and with the casting of Eisenberg, it's more than likely that he'll bring his quick wit along with some hateable smugness to liven things up. I also have a feeling Lois will do some investigating into the desires of Luthor and his company which should give her a more to do in BvS compared to her role in MOS. As for Princess Diana, we're pretty much in the dark as to how she's connected to the story.

-Action

You're probably thinking, "How can the action get better than what we saw in MOS?". The answer is, very easily. Hear me out. I do think the oil refinery rescue in the ocean was well done along with the destruction of the world engine. It was the all out brawls that Zod/The Kryptonians had througout the movie that became drawn out because the redundant punches being exchanged seemed to be causing no damage except to everything around them. It began to feel empty. Now as we know, The Dark Knight Returns will be an influence to some degree. The great thing about this is that the armored suit Batman is equipped with to take on Superman in the comic has various creative gadgets that keep the fight interesting. I think it really will be amazing to see this in a live action feature film and bringing in a very skilled and crafty human hero such as Batman will make every blow have some stakes and it will turn out more thrilling.

Again this is just my own speculation. What do you guys think? Do you agree? Or am I out of my mind and Man of Steel has no need for improvement? Comment below. Let's get it poppin.

If the GOTG could fight Ronan with an IS then Batman can face Superman.

GiantNerd....Gusto wants to know if you think we'll see more of Henry Cavill shirtless....yeah. That's what he asked me to ask you. Don't contact him to see if this is true because he'll just deny it....yeah.

It's funny though, because I think this movie will have the reverse effect on the average moviegoer. We comic book lovers will (most likely) see it as an improvement in the Superman storyline because we understand the hero's rich history, especially involving Batman. However, I know SEVERAL people that are not interested in comic books that love movies and comic book movies and are refusing to see this because "How could Batman beat Superman? That's [frick]ing stupid." The ones that haven't really questioned it will probably go in with a Nolan Batman mindset: Batman is a rich guy who became a superhero. Not the world's greatest combatant and detective. We hardly saw that in TDK trilogy. It was a great take on the character, but it's clearly not what we'll see in this movie. Therein lies the problem. There are potentially two sets of moviegoers that will probably be confused or annoyed with this take on Batman because all they know are the shitty 90's films and TDK, not to mention the fact that they just saw Superman kill a being equally as powerful as himself and is going to be brought down by a powerless human in a suit. Instead of an improvement, I truly think a lot of people won't get it.

My sources tell me he will not be shirtless in BvS but he will in fact be pantsless for 43.8% of the film.

"I too Loved MOS and see the sequel as adding to its awesomeness....

Question

If this film was voted by the fans as CBM of the year on this site, where are the editorials on:
How THOR 3 can improve on its predecessor Thor2 shortcomings!
or
How IM4 can improve on its predecessor IM3 Shortcomings!
or
How can Wolverine 4 improve on its predecessor the Wolverine Shortcomings!

I say this as these films came out the same year as MOS,and all three of these films votes combined didn't add up to the votes for MOS in the poll greatest CBM of 2013,voted by the fans on this site, and on ComicVine,IGN etc,etc....

Therefore this article is bias, and proves why I am here!"

Hey, idiot...

This is an editorial...which translates to an OPINION piece. Of course personal bias comes into play, that's the whole point!

And you are here because every time you find out that someone had issues with, or didn't like MoS, you cry a little, and die a little inside.

One of my favourite Supes stories was the third (I think it was the third) issue of Byrne's Man of Steel run. Supes' first encounter with Bats.

If they can nail the dynamics between the two, then I'm a happy man.

Show a hardcore sex scene with Clark and Lois. Afterwards, they're both laying in bed catching their breath when suddenly Lois transforms into Martian Manhunter.

Apparently valid and well thought out criticisms of a film are invalid if a poll on an website is in favor of said film or the competitors films of the same genre are not brutally criticised either. Do not try to make any claims that the films of the competitors are irrelevant and do not take away the issues of said film because apparently that argument is faulty because of... reasons.

It's rumored, and don't quote me on this, that the measurements will be roughly 3inch x 8inch.

This is actually a legit piece of the Bat Armor's crotch plate though.

Word. That's the point. I wanted to express my excitement for BvS because I was personally let down by MOS and I think they're going to fix the problems I had with it.
