What is going to happen in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE?

After the announcement of the Man of Steel sequel's official title, I wondered what the potential storylines of the movie could be. Read this article to see what I came up with.

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" is the official title of what is going to be the first cinematic encounter between the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight. We saw the Batmobile, we saw the Batsuit, we know about the cast, we saw some photos taken on the set, but what do we know about the story of the film? Not much, even less if we don't consider the rumours. I decided to think about the purposes and possibile storylines of the movie, just to point out how much this product is important for the development of the DC Cinematic Universe. After all, BvS is not only the direct sequel of Man of Steel, but also the first expansion of the DCCU and the prequel of the Justice League. Sounds like a lot of stuff, right? Well, it is.
Let's begin!

MAN OF STEEL AFTERMATH

Lot of sh*t happened in Man of Steel. Humanity had direct evidence of the existence of aliens, and some of these aliens invaded Earth and brought destruction. Smallville was attacked, Metropolis was half destroyed and thousands of people lost their lives. Not to mention that the USArmy found out to be inferior to these aliens in terms of weaponry and physical power. While the Evil Kryptonians were defeated, Superman still flies around freely. It is almost obvious that the American Government (and probably also other countries') see the Man of Steel as a threat and a potential danger, and they could try to build special weapons, or super soldiers, as a mean of defense.
Superman himself has to deal with some tough stuff as well. He killed Zod (sorry, spoiler) and that act made him the only true Kryptonian alive. Again, it's obvious that this is going to haunt him.

BATMAN VS SUPERMAN OR SUPERMAN VS BATMAN?

No, I'm not complaining about the title, I'm asking "is Batman going to attack Superman first, or is going to be the opposite?". If they go with the first option, Batman, being a paranoid control freak, would likely develop a plan to take down Superman if he becomes dangerous. Then, Superman could be manipolated by someone (Lex) and do some weird stuff, which would lead Batman to attack, even if it's Lex Luthor who is organizing everything.
If they go with the second option, Superman could be sent by the US Governement to hunt down and arrest Batman, who is, after all, an outlaw with incredible amounts of resources. Superman comes to Gotham and they fight. Pretty simple. By the way, this would be similar to what happened in "The Dark Knight Returns", a graphic novel which was used by Zack Snyder as an inspiration for the movie.

THE SOCIAL LUTHOR

This brings us to Lex Luthor. We don't know to what extent he will be used in the film. However, I like to think he will be portrayed as some kind of shadowy mastermind, a famous person that everybody love while in reality he is like the worst man ever. Many of his properties were damaged during the battle of Metropolis, so he has a reason to personally hate Superman and aliens in general, aside from the whole "You're dangeours!" thing. He is also an industrial rival to Wayne Enterprises and in the comics Lexie is known for his cutthroat tactics when it comes to dealing with competitors.
I'd like to see him organizing a face-off between Bats and Supes just to have them kill each other, or at least weakened, so then he could step on the battlefield with some of his creations (Metallo? Doomsday?), built using the remains of Kryptonian technology.

DIANA OF THEMYSCIRA, FIRST OF HER NAME

Wonder Woman is an iconic character and BvS marks her first cinematic appearance. But how are they going to use her, exactly? Again, the options are two in my opinion.
First, they could simply portray her as the ambassadress of Paradise Island, sent to the World of Men to absolve some diplomatic duties or, as some rumours suggested, to recover an object belonging to her people.
The second option is the "Diana Prince" style. There was a time when Wonder Woman had a civilian identity (Diana Prince) and she was part of the Department of Metahuman Affairs, a US government office which deals with metahumans... like Superman. While I never particularly liked that story, it would be an easy way to insert Diana into the Man of Steel universe.

JUSTICE

Cyborg is in the movie, too, and the immediate sequel of BvS is Justice League. Therefore, we should expect Snyder and Co. will leave some easter eggs and maybe even more in order to prepare the ground for one of the most anticipated comic book movie ever conceived. It would be cool if at the end of BvS we saw the villain of JL. I don't want The Social Luthor, at least not at this stage. Some names I came up with are Darkseid (too soon?), Brainiac, Despero, Ares, and -wait for it- Aquaman. Yep. Aquaman could lead a war against the surface dwellers, perhaps with the help/manipulation of Ares, God of War and Conflict. The Justice League could be formed to protect Earth by an Atlantean invasion... and it would be a nice way to introduce never-too-badass Aquaman.

So, what do you think about my ideas? What do you think will happen in Batman v Superman? State your thoughts below!

Superman and batman are going to have a relationship that gets complicated and leads to their disastrous break up. Batman fights to get superman back; the one that got away

On AMC Movie Talk, Jon Campea made the good point as to why it's "v" and not "vs"
Like a court case, the first billed is the grieving party, so it's Batman who has the problem with Superman and who is the one initiating the attack, probably on behalf of the "alien threat".

I think Diana will be using the Diana Prince alias, from the set images she looks to be pretty glamorous and successful.
I don't think she'll be "out" as a Themyscira warrior from the beginning but reveal that near the end.

@Cherry

As long as they have an actual valid reason for her assuming the identity. Hopefully she abandons the identity when there is no longer purpose for taking it up.

Anyway, no idea what it will be about but should deal with the aftermath where MoS failed terribly.

@Klone

Yeah, maybe Themyscira just wants to stay hidden from the world of man. So that's why she's in disguise. Or maybe she wants to see about the threat, get close to the action as a viewer to see if the alien threat will perhaps teach Themyscira some day.

@nubase Ah, I forgot about STAR Labs. Your theory about Cyborg does indeed make a lot of sense.

I loved the first episode of the Justice League animated show.
It was good as bringing everyone together and showing off their skillets. But the "mass alien invasion" idea is already used for Avengers.

I like your ideas. Nice write up!!! I'd love to see a Theone of Atlantis type story, but with Aquaman leading the charge.

I would love to have Batman as a semi-villain on the look for Superman for the first half of the movie.

I know Aquaman has a love hate relationship with the comic fanbase. Personally I would love to see Aquaman be introduced by him pledging an Atlantian war against the human surface dwellers. I just hope they portray Aquaman as a badass. It will also be a fun way to introduce the character considering the world just got over an alien invasion and just when they think things couldn't get worse the human race now discovers in addition to Kryptonian Aliens there are a race of aquatic people aswell.

I have no idea what is going to happen in the film. I've been looking forward to a Man of Steel sequel and a shared DC universe after Man of Steel. I like your ideas for each of the characters that are to be featured in the film and the events that could happen.

I would actually prefer it if Superman and Batman just worked together against a threat. Have there differences and a fight in the beginning the majority of the film should focus on there friendship.

Man of Steel did not fail terribly and it was actually a success, so i'm not sure what Klone is talking about.
