Amid persistent rumors that the Booster Gold Max series is in the process of assembling its creative team, we're now hearing that the project has enlisted a trio of righteous writers to work on the scripts.

According to Nexus Point News, James Gunn and Peter Safran have tapped Danny McBride, John Carcieri and Jeff Fradley, the creative team behind the HBO Max Original series The Righteous Gemstones, to work on the show.

If accurate, this may lend some credence to a previous rumor that the team's frequent collaborator Jody Hill (The Righteous Gemstones, Eastbound and Down, Vice Principals) was hired as director/showrunner.

Gunn recently shot down a report that production was set to commence in July, but he did reveal that "most" of the DCU-based shows currently in the pipeline have set their creative teams.

Back in 2022, Gunn asked his social media followers which character that has yet to appear in the DCU they'd most like to see on screen, and Booster won by some margin.

"Interestingly, Booster was the MOST requested character when I asked people on Mastodon what character they'd most like to see on screen," Tweeted Gunn. "I'm not creating stories by public vote, but I found it fascinating nevertheless"

A Booster Gold feature from director Greg Berlanti and writer Zack Stenz was in development before falling off the radar back in 2019.

As for who fans would most like to see play the time-travelling hero, Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt seems to be a popular choice. The actor was asked about the possibility of suiting up as Booster in the DCU during a recent interview, and while he denied having any discussions about the role, he did add: "If James thought I was right for it, then you know that would I would have to consider it."

Booster Gold and Skeets appeared in the Smallville episode "Booster", portrayed by Eric Martsolf and voiced by Ross Douglas, respectively. Scrubs alum Donald Faison also played another take on the character in the series finale of Legends of Tomorrow.

"Booster Gold is one of comic’s really popular cult heroes," Gunn said of the character when the DCU's "Gods and Monsters" slate was announced. "He is a fascinating guy. He’s a loser from the future who uses future technology to come back to present day and become a superhero so that people will love him. It is basically the superhero story of imposter syndrome on an HBO Max series.”

I honestly think this might be true given that this same site broke the Lanterns creative team story…

If so then while I haven’t seen The Righteous Gemstones or Vice Principals , I would be willing to give them a shot since I have heard a lot of acclaim for those shows.

Definitely makes it seem like it will have a more comedic tone as it deals with the theme of imposter syndrome which fits the character of Booster Gold initially imo so hope it turns out well!!.

Also, here’s your guy right here…

Is Booster Gold popular enough for any of this?

He's been in the Absolutely MID character column since I was in my 20s.

Chris Pratt could probably make it work by just being Star Lord in the DCU.

@Batmangina - if Marvel can keep giving us low tier characters to make shows out of, why can’t DC? Lol

@Oberlin4Prez - Fair, but TBH, GOTG was the first rando/Z list thing Marvel did and they already had MASSIVE success with the MCU.

The flood of shitty MID AF shows didn't come until D+ entered the picture - Netflix DD is arguably the best thing they've done - it was all downhill from there.

@Batmangina - totally agree, total garbage and will tank like the marvels. Hes barely a tertiary character, totally unknown, like blue beetle.

@Oberlin4Prez - they already tried it with black Adam and blue beetle

@cyclopsprime - Black Adam wasn't that bad. I didn't watch Blue Beetle - it wasn't made for me.

Righteous Gemstones is prolly my favorite comedy on tv. One of those shows that gets better every season, and probably my favorite from Danny McBride.

@regularmovieguy - Can’t believe Gunn is getting huge names like this and Lindelof for Lanterns but the Batman movie is somehow an andy muschietti joint lmfao. Shit just doesn’t compute haha

@tmp3

Lindelof on Lanterns easily has me the most hyped. And you're right I don't know why he was so quick to sign Muschietti after The Flash came out (and I liked pretty much all the Batman shit in Flash outside of Affleck's opening scene on the bridge).

Hyped to see who they cast for the Lanterns series.

@regularmovieguy - Lindelof on Lanterns sounds godly. This stuff + Superman sounds like everything I’ve ever wanted from a DC cinematic universe, and then you have stuff like Brave & The Bold haha. Mangold on Swamp Thing could be great too, ngl

I love Righteous Gemstones but I sure hope Danny McBride isn’t in this. He would be terrible for Booster and he takes over anything he’s in so he couldn’t be another character. Could Adam Devine do it? Never thought about him. Maybe. I feel like he plays the same character in everything he’s in, but maybe he could pull it off. I don’t know.

@mountainman - Now that @TheVisionary25 has pointer it out I'm all on board with Billy Magnussen. He's got the build and is 3 inches taller than Devine. Loved him in Game Night

@Evansly - He’d be good. I was just speaking about actors from this show, as often times production crews behind things can bring over associated actors.

The show is getting one of the guys hugely responsible for the latest two Halloween films (with the 3rd one being the most atrocious Horror film ever to be on the big screen)...? Uh oh.
