BATMAN V SUPERMAN Ensured The Making Of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Captain America: Civil War is just over a week away from hitting theaters, and according to director Joe Russo, Civil War might not have ever happened if it wasn't for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Early on, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was set to go up against Captain America: Civil War on the same opening weekend until Warner bros. pushed back Batman v Superman to have it be released a few weeks earlier. It gave enough breathing room for both franchises to have a fair go at the box office, and it helped fans get ready for two of the year's biggest films.

After the great success that was Captain America: Winter Soldier, the Russo brothers set out to make sure that the next Captain America film would change the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Joe Russo revealed that the opportunity to make the third installment in the Captain America trilogy is all due to Batman v Superman.

"For our part, when we finished Winter Soldier two years ago and we were thinking about doing the next one," said the director. "The only thing that seemed interesting to us was to deconstruct the Marvel Universe — because where else can we go at this point? There have been 11 or 12 movies so far, all with a fairly traditional structure. Our pitch to them was: People will tell you they love chocolate ice cream — until you give it to them five days a week. It's time to give them some rainbow sherbet. Kevin [Feige] is a maverick and he's very sensitive to how people are responding to his content. He said he thought we might be right. And after they announced Batman v. Superman, he said, 'you guys are absolutely right.' We needed to do something challenging with the material or we were going to start to lose the audience." Are you excited to see Captain America: Civil War change up the MCU? BvS was awesome! Justice is coming like an unsupervised 12 year old boy on a computer.

And if it wasn't for the Avengers, WB wouldn't make a DC film not staring Batman.

At least it's good for something! Zing!

Nah its alright.

I decided on this summation if anyone asks my opinion from here on out:

It's perfectly enjoyable when you watch it, but as soon as you think about it, it falls apart.

I think that's both accurate and fair.

I don't know how anyone eats chocolate ice cream they should take it out of the neopolitan mix.

@0bstreperous - I've said it on Facebook and I'll say it here. Neopolitan ice cream is the abortion of the culinary world.

Yeah we all knew this already. It's just a shame that WB took the approach they did with BvS. I think Terrio and Snyder got too interested in Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor as enemies and neglected an actual smart conflict between Batman and Superman.
