Is Captain America The World's Greatest Comic Book Movie Trilogy?

Where most of the comic book movies fade after a good start Marvel Studios Captain America got stronger and stronger with each sequal.

Happy New Year to anyone and everyone who may drop by to check out this article. 2016 was a fantastic year that had many ups and downs, turns and twist and shocking things in the world and in entertainment, where we lost Prince and George Michaels, we gained Donald Trump for President WOW what a year to remember as we move forward into 2017! With so many new and exciting things on the horizon 2016 concluded in my opinion the greatest comic book trilogy of all times...Marvel Studios Captain America. It's no secret that Cap is my boyhood superhero only rivaled by Black Panther in my adult years, so I admit I'm biased when it comes to Captain America. From top to bottom you can't find me a better comic book movie 3 film trilogy! Let's look at the basics in terms of movie making, storyline, writers, production, special effects, and actors all of which Marvel Studios have been very successful with in their long run of movie releases, but Captain America comes out quite natural in this element.
Captain America was the story of a common man or the little guy who comes to power and fights in the name of all things good. Marvel Studios did a fantastic job by bringing this character to the big screen but more impressively they selected an actor in Chris Evans who embodied not only the spirit of Steve Rogers but the will of Captain America as well, who captured the hearts and minds of movie fans around the world while welding his mighty shield. Now let's take a look at all three movies.

The First Avenger Steve Rogers AKA Captain America's origin film was the studio's first attempt at bringing you the super soldier, it was a time piece movie based in early America pre and during World War 2. Director Joe Johnston did a really good job at not only bringing the character to life but the world at that time. The First Avenger shows how Steve Rogers get his powers and becomes Captain America. I thought this movie was great though critics weren't blown away and I admit this is the lesser of the three Captain America movies. The First Avenger laid the oh so important ground work for the other two movies to have their success. I gave the first avenger 8 1/2 out of 10 stars with my only gripe that the main villain Hugo Weaving (Red Skull ) wasn't menacing enough and died way too soon for my liking.

Captain America The Winter Soldier the sequel to The First Avenger but trust me this movie takes no backseat or plays second fiddle to the first one. In my very humble opinion the Winter Soldier was the best of all three Captain America movies.  Yeah I said it...even better than the Civil War! Captain America The Winter Soldier kept the same writers from The First Avenger Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely but switched directors. Marvel Studios hired movie new comers The Russo Brothers who spun gold overnight with their first blockbuster movie release! I mean they rocked movie goers to the core with their fight scenes and action packed car chases! In this movie all of the explaining of who Steve Rogers is and why he does what he does was already taken care of in The First Avenger so The Winter Soldier allows a no holds barred kick ass Steve Rogers with some of the best fight choreography that I have seen in any movie but a plus in this film is the contribution from other actors such as Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Sebastian Stan ( Bucky) did their thing! DAMN! Everybody held their own in this one! I gave The Winter Soldier 9 1/2 out of 10 stars
not a perfect 10 because even though it was action packed some of the more subtle scenes came off as boring. That is still my favorite comic book movie of all time!

Now to end the trilogy Ladies and Gentlemen I leave you with The Civil War! The film where Marvel pulled out it's biggest, brightest, and baddest stars. Where Chris Evans Captain America and Robert Downey's Iron Man would come to blows leaving hardcore movie fans to choose sides. I love this film and how in the mist of superhero battle royal they were able to introduce us to some new characters like my favorite Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), and Tom Holland (Spider-Man) who both did a fantastic job! Critics and movie goers all loved the Civil War and consider it the greatest comic book movie of all times! I mean the success was unbelievable for Marvel Studio another GIGANTIC homerun! They had everyone from Ant-Man to Falcon in this movie and everyone in between...I mean this was comic book movie bliss! It also marked the return of the Russo Brothers  as the directors. The Civil War marked the bittersweet end of The Captain America trilogy with one of the last scenes of Steve Rogers dropping his shield and leaving it behind. EPIC! I gave the Civil War a 9 out of 10 stars! Not a perfect 10. It didn't seem like a Captain America solo movie. He didn't get enough screen time, too much fluff time when they gave unnecessary screen time to other characters UNNECESSARILY you know what I mean? Lol! Plus the stakes weren't as high as the drama would elude to. Things only got real after Tony Starks found out The Winter Soldier killed his parents. Still the action was good but the fight scenes couldn't compare to the Captain America Winter Soldier movie because the first half of The Civil War the superhero fights are between friends but anyway...Marvel Studios and Chris Evans should take a bow and be very proud of a tremendous Captain America movie trilogy! As a trio I give the Captain America movies a 9 out of 10 stars average! God Bless! Leave a comment and let's get this discussion started!

I know I'm gonna get crap for this, but CA:TFA is one of my favorite CBM's. It's not one of the best, just one of my favorites.

To me, it has the look and feel of an old comic book story. It's an over-simplified story. The science of things are not overly technical, they make sense, because, well, science. The machines are all just big tubes and sparks and conduits, not trillions of gears and other moving parts. The tech looks big and bulky like 1940's tech should.

And the fighting? All it is missing is BLAM! and POP! They could have used crazy, modern day stunt fighting, where everybody fights like ninjas on steroids, but they instead went for 1940's comic book fighting, where Cap and Red Skull are just punching and smashing and swinging on a rope kicking and such. It makes sense, because while they are both strong and fast, neither received more than regular military combat training.

I don't know. It all just seemed like a throwback to the old days, and not just because it was set during WWII. I know it is not the most loved CBM, even if you are choosing from Marvel's first batch, but It is up there on my list, dare I say close to The Crow?

@TomSolo - I watched the 1990 Captain America movie. 'First Avenger' is everything it wanted to be. It was simplistic w/o being stupid or inane, it was a comic book come to life, and it was the proto-typical hero versus villain which ended with the mythical self-sacrifice by the hero. Terrific.

Nah.

Batman Begins > CA: TFA
The Dark Knight > CA: TWS
The Dark Knight Rises ≤ CA: CW

Therefore:

The Dark Knight Trilogy > Captain America Trilogy

@Philip - Batman Begins I give 7.5 Stars The Dark Knight Gets 9.5 stars and The Dark Knight Rises Gets 6.5 stars! Sorry Captain America's Movie Trio is Better!

Philip - 1/1/2017, 3:45 PM
@Gab - In your opinion.

I, much like most critics and the general fan, disagree. You also admit to being biased when it comes to Captain America, so your opinion loses some of its weight there.

"Critics and movie goers all loved the Civil War and consider it the greatest comic book movie of all times!" - Shy away from absolute statements, especially when they're not true.

Gab - 1/1/2017, 4:08 PM
@Philip - I SAID I GAVE! BUT THE CRITICS DID SAY CIVIL WAR MAYBE THE GREATEST COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER! WHAT ROCK YOU BEEN UNDER? REALLY YOU NEVER HEARD THAT?
Philip
Philip - 1/1/2017, 4:18 PM
@Gab - But you also said "Sorry Captain America's Movie Trio is Better", making it sound like it is an absolute fact, which it is not.

Also, some critics might have said it, but the way you worded it made it seem like that was a general opinion amongst critics. Which it most definitely is not. Especially since critics scored Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises higher than CW. In fact, only 2 MCU films beats Begins (the film in the trilogy with the lowest rating) in terms of average score: The Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Gab
Gab - 1/1/2017, 4:48 PM
@Philip - OK SO WHEN YOU SAID BATMAN HAD THE BETTER MOVIES WAS THAT A FACT? I THINK NOT! HERE IS SOME FACTS FOR YOU THO! IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT BOTH BM AND CA FIRST 2 MOVIES GOING UP AGAINST EACH OTHER THATS COOL! BUT THE MOMENT YOU BRING UP THE 3RD FILM! IT KILLS IT FOR BATMAN AND WINS IT FOR CAP! CIVIL WAR VS THE DARK KNIGHT RISES! NO CONTEST!! WHO WINS THAT!
Philip
Philip - 1/1/2017, 5:12 PM
@Gab - It's not a fact, no. The thing is, my opinion is also backed up with general critic opinion and general fan opinion. So while not an absolute fact, it's definitely fair to say that most people share my opinion, and therefore I can make a generalized statement.

The Dark Knight Rises RT Critics Score: 87% (avg. rating: 8/10). Audience Score: 90% (avg. rating 4.3/5). IMDB Score: 8.5/10. Metascore: 78. Personal rating: 8/10.

Captain America: Civil War RT Critics Score: 90% (avg. rating: 7.6/10). Audience Score: 89% (avg. rating 4.3/5). IMDB Score: 8/10. Metascore: 75. Personal Rating: 6.5/10.

To me, TDKR is better. Looking at critics and general fans, both films are rated similarly, indicating that most people (critics and fans) consider the two films to be equally good (therefore, The Dark Knight Rises ≤ CA: CW).

Also, chill out. If you can't take being challenged, don't write articles. Oh, and before I forget - please work on your writing mechanics.

@Gab you really should be beating @Phillip here in facts ...or at least able to deflect the bias accusations by pointing out his own bias via avatar. Also, there is the fact that CA has two great movies and one very good movie, while Nolan Batman has one very good film, one film that most agree is GREAT (I think it is overrated, but the general public disagrees), and one movie that is on the border of so-so and only okay. Then you have gray area things like the current DCEU was inspired by the Nolan trilogy which was not a good thing, or the fact that Bale's Batman isn't great, or that all Batman movies are more about villains. You had A LOT of good points to make in your defense...

What did you do? Started typing in all caps when he throws information at you that CAN be fudged and argued like a [frick]ing child. By behaving childishly, you make him right to every single on looker, when the issue of legacy and hindsight could have dispelled almost everything he said.

BUT I CAN TELL HIM WHAT I THINK IS THE BETTER MOVIE!! PEACE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU!

@Philip - have to disagree. Bats is 1 of my favorite individual characters and Joker is my favorite villain, hands down. I like Begins alot, and love DK but there were some issues with it (honestly, the Batman scenes were weak, Joker carried that movie) and Rises is terrible. I seriously hate that movie, its one of the few CBMs that i wont rewatch even out of boredom. Caps 3 have everything you want in a trilogy, with the added pressure of maintaining continuity and development established in other movies, without the let down.

@Gab - lol I love them both, but I have problems with cap tfa, civil war, and HUGE problems with tdkr, so picking the better trilogy is tough, but I have to give it to batman.

Why?

Because he's batman

@Philip - "@Gab - But you also said "Sorry Captain America's Movie Trio is Better", making it sound like it is an absolute fact, which it is not."

Well....as far as a great CBM the CAP trilogy IS better. Nolan's Bat films are well made MOVIES. They have the bells and whistles of being well shot, and cut together (for the most part). The problem is that (except for some moments here and there especially some good ones in BB) they are not good BATMAN movies. The Cap trilogy are great CAP movies. These are after all our chance to see these characters come to life on the screen and Nolan's well.....often misses the mark on that crucial thing
