Jude Law Reveals The Difference Between The Level Of Secrecy On CAPTAIN MARVEL And FANTASTIC BEASTS

Jude Law will next be seen in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald but he also has Captain Marvel on the horizon. How does the secrecy between both franchises differ? More than you might think...

Marvel Studios is good at keeping secrets and if you try to get anything out of the actors working for them, they'll quickly start talking about "snipers" and the like. While we knew what was coming in the Harry Potter movies, the Fantastic Beasts franchise is a whole lot more mysterious and Warner Bros. is being careful not to give too much away.

British actor Jude Law currently has a foot in both worlds as he's playing a young Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and possibly Mar-Vell in Captain Marvel.

Recently, Law was asked how the studios differ and, well, he was surprised! "I think it might be this British-American difference. With Fantastic Beasts, they're like 'We assume you're not going to give away any of these secrets. And if you do, we're going to tell you not to again and we may quietly kill you. In Marvel, it's like, 'Don't you f****** ever tell anybody anything about this!'"

In other words, he's allowed to say nothing about his role in Captain Marvel so it appears as if we may end up waiting until the movie is released next March before we find out whether or not he's Mar-Vell! What do you guys think? As always, share your thoughts in the usual place.

Captain Marvel trailer's best moments and Easter Eggs!

Crash Landing

The trailer kicks off with Carol Danvers falling to Earth seemingly after her ship explodes...or is shot down. Despite being incredibly powerful, she appears to be unconscious as she returns home so the question is, does she not have full control of her powers at this point or has someone - or something - stronger taken the hero down? Some more clues in that respect are revealed a little later on here...

Welcome To The 1990s

Depending on how old you are, the fact the Captain Marvel trailer uses a Blockbuster Video store in order to establish its 90s setting may very well may you feel like you're 100! Regardless, we've known for a while now that the Marvel Studios movie will take place in the past and it should be fun seeing just how many other references are included here to a decade which now feels like it was forever ago!

A Renegade Soldier

Nick Fury's voiceover makes two things clear: war is coming and Carol Danvers is on the run from the Kree Empire. Described as a "renegade soldier," it appears as if she's fled to Earth and disobeyed orders because she realises that something isn't quite right. It was recently confirmed that the movie starts with her working for Starforce so we're clearly getting quite an unorthodox origin story in the film.

A Stranger On Earth

Given Carol's puzzled expression and her clearly not remembering her past, it appears as if she'll be unaware that Earth is her home for at least some of this movie, something which will allow Marvel Studios to really play on the fish out of water premise which was arguably wasted when Captain America arrived in the present day in The Avengers. Luckily for Carol, it seems as if she'll find a friend.

Alien Autopsy

Here, we see Nick Fury (and quite possibly Agent Coulson) observing an autopsy for what is clearly a dead Skrull. This is reminiscent of the Secret Invasion storyline when Hank Pym and Mister Fantastic performed one on the Elektra Skrull which led to them realising that Earth was being invaded but the question is, will this movie follow the comic books by having someone here also reveal themselves as a Skrull.

Alien Invasion

A spaceship can be seen here hovering above Earth but it looks relatively small so probably isn't an entire fleet of Skrull invaders. It could be what brings Talos and company to our planet, though, and it's interesting to note that a Space Shuttle from our planet can be seen in the distance. Perhaps that heading into outer space is what leads to this vessel having to reveal itself before the invasion begins!

Captain Marvel's Powers

We've been wondering for a while now how Captain Marvel's abilities will be portrayed in the movie and this trailer gives us our best look yet at her unleashed abilities which have previously been described as making her the most powerful character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Needless to say, we can probably expect her to use these against Thanos when she returns to Earth in Avengers 4

Nick Fury Meets Carol Danvers

It sounds like S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson has been de-aged here courtesy of some groundbreaking CGI) was ready to give up before crossing paths with Carol Danvers and that's probably because he's been described as a "desk jockey" in this movie. Regardless, it appears as if he's the one dispatched to deal with her after she returns to Earth and probably causes some major damage!

Hala

We get just a glimpse of Hala in this trailer and for those of you who may not know that name, it's the home planet of the Kree. Carol will be living there where the movie begins and while it doesn't look mind-blowing from a visual standpoint, it's still early days in terms of the special effects work and that could change as time passes. Either way, we should probably expect to spend a lot of time here.

Carol's Memories

This trailer makes it clear that Carol Danvers doesn't seem to remember her past and she's been having flashes of another life, one where she was an Air Force Pilot and her best friend was Maria Rambeau. We know she's the MCU's most powerful superhero but could it be that amnesia is her weakness? There's precedent for that in the source material and we'll probably see her build those memories.

Brainwashed?

One possible reason for Carol not remembering her past is the fact that the Kree have been controlling and/or brainwashing her. The device she's hooked up to definitely appears to be having some sort of impact on her and seeing as the Kree aren't the nicest race (as was established in Guardians of the Galaxy and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), them using Captain Marvel for their own means does make sense.

Starforce

We get just a brief glimpse of Starforce in this trailer but the team has previously been described as being an elite team of soldiers who serve the Kree and are seemingly tasked with keeping the Skrulls at bay. We get a good look at Gemma Chan's Minn-Erva in this brief shot and she's actually no longer a doctor in the MCU based on what little has been revealed; instead, she's going to be the team's sniper!

Is Mar-Vell The Movie's Villain?

We get only a single shot of Jude Law's mysterious Starforce commander in this trailer but he looks a tad manic and given his placement in the trailer, I can't help but wonder if we're going to learn that he's secretly got his own villainous motivations! It could be that he's either controlling Carol or that he's secretly a Skrull but don't be surprised if the MCU's take on Mar-Vell is quite a bit different.

The Skrulls

Surprisingly, we get only a fleeting glimpse of the Skrulls and it's not even enough to get a proper screengrab from! Regardless, they definitely look a little better here than in that official image and it's now easy to imagine these alien villains exceeding expectations when they make their big screen debut...well, that could come in X-Men: Dark Phoenix but these will undoubtedly be much better.

Captain Marvel Punches A Pensioner

What, you didn't realise that Carol Danvers hates old people? While it would easy to speculate that she's lost her mind and is just attacking a random civilian, common sense says that this is a Skrull in disguise. How can the hero tell? That remains to be seen but seeing these aliens disguise themselves should be a lot of fun, especially if we're not always clued in to where and who they all are here.

Ronan Returns

It's no secret that Ronan the Accuser will return in Captain Marvel but we'll obviously spend time with a younger version of the villain who one day aligns himself with Thanos and dies at the hands of the Guardians of the Galaxy. While we may get a glimpse at his descent into madness, it's hard to imagine he was ever a "good" guy, so don't be surprised if he ends up being a bit of a dick from the very start.

Young Agent Coulson

Is it me or does Clark Gregg not really look all that different here? I guess he's just aged exceptionally well and the haircut is definitely different for the young S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who has quite clear always had a thing for wearing suits. What his role here will be still isn't clear but the character's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper is definitely welcomed. However, what about the present day?

The Pager

While this is clearly just a standard pager, it also feels like a nod to Avengers: Infinity War's after-credits scene and Carol giving Nick Fury a suped up version by the time this movie ends makes a whole lot of sense. Who is target could be is hard to say and it's hard not to wonder if this might be a Skrull version of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent! After all, we won't have any idea who to trust during this adventure...

Carol Gets Her Mask

It was smart of Marvel Studios to save this reveal for the movie's first trailer and a lot of fans are no doubt feeling very happy about Captain Marvel not only getting her mask but also her mohawk. She appears to be wearing a breathing apparatus of some sort underwater in this shot but the helmet returns later on in the trailer too, so here's hoping it winds up being a permanent part of her costume.

The Origin Story

As I mentioned above, Captain Marvel is clearly going to handle the character's origin story in a different way to what we're used to. However, if you really pay attention here, you'll notice that we witness what appears to be the explosion which results in Carol getting her amazing powers. Does she discover some sort of Kree artefact or is there already something inside her which gets unlocked?

Whos' That?

It looks like Captain Marvel is bracing herself for a fight in this shot but who is it that she's preparing to square off with? It doesn't look like a Skrull and there's no sign of any green, so it probably isn't a member of Starforce either...unless they've changed, of course! It almost looks like an old-school S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform from the comics but something tells me that this is going to be a big moment.

Powering Up

In the awesome final shot, we see Captain Marvel seemingly fully power up in a moment which could very well show us why Kevin Feige has repeatedly said that she's the MCU's most powerful character. Fans are already speculating that she could be turning into Binary here and if that is the case, the Mad Titan won't stand a chance when these two inevitably clash in next year's Avengers 4. Roll on 2019, eh?

He's in two of the three highest grossing franchises of all time and my two favorite ongoing franchises. Very well deserved and it certainly makes me very happy as a huge Marvel and Harry Potter fan. Kevin Feige and J. K. Rowling know what they are doing.

Is he drunk or something in this interview? He seems sort of odd throughout it anyway, but it also sounds like he starts telling the joke earlier in the interview and then moves away from it after the first sentence. He later seems comes back to it, repeats the first sentence and finishes the whole joke/story in the last part of the interview.
