THE MARVELS: Kree Scientist Casting Might Tease Future Plans For Silver Surfer In The MCU

Some new casting details for The Marvels have been revealed, suggesting we could see a character with ties to the Silver Surfer and the Kree Supreme Intelligence in the comic books. Read on for details...

The Marvels has finished shooting, but with the movie pushed into 2023, it's probably going to be a while before we get a first look at Captain Marvel's return. In the Phase 4 blockbuster, she'll team up with Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel, likely to take on a Kree threat of some sort. However, the stage could be set for another beloved character to finally make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.

Actor Colin Stoneley has shared his acting resume on Mandy.com (via One Take News), with his role listed as "Papp-Tonn, a Kree scientist." This has since been updated to just "Kree Scientist," likely because of the ramifications this character's introduction may have for the wider MCU.

In the comic books, Pat-Tonn (the spelling on the page) made only a single appearance in 1987 as a scientist who was experimenting on the Silver Surfer's board while he was held captive by the Kree Supreme Intelligence. There's nothing to say that's the plan for The Marvels, of course, but we would be surprised if the trio of HERoes don't come up against that villain here.

After all, revealing that the Surfer is being held captive by the Supreme Intelligence before he breaks out to help Captain Marvel, Spectrum, and Ms. Marvel would be one heck of a way to introduce him. Marvel Studios regained the rights to the Silver Surfer, Galactus, and countless other characters when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, and the hope is we'll start seeing them all soon.

Zawe Ashton has been cast as The Marvels' lead villain, while Parasite star Park Seo-jonn is also set to appear. The expectation is that Tessa Thompson will show up as Valkyrie in the movie as well.

The Marvels is set to be released on February 17, 2023.

Could've sworn I already read an article about this (from my favorite pig in a top hat I think). Still, I doubt we'll see Silver Surfer debut in The Marvels.

OT: it seems everything with Cox' Matt Murdock was canon, but they already removed the Spider-Man paragraph again: https://www.marvel.com/characters/daredevil-matthew-murdock

@bkmeijer1 - Silver Surfuer being in The MARVELS is a great reason to buy a ticket. Confirmation counts.

@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, there was an article by Waddles a few days ago with basically the same information. The only new piece of information is that the actor has deleted the name of the scientist, which he could have done for a number of reasons and doesn't really mean much in terms of hinting at Silver Surfer being in this.

@Waddles - I know it's on the news page on pc, but mobile I'm not sure. Might also be because I don't use the mobile version right now, because it all sorts of wonky

@Waddles - You are totally right, that's weird. I checked and I can see your articles on my PC but not on my phone. It would be interesting to know why, hope it gets sorted out.

"After all, revealing that the Surfer is being held captive by the Supreme Intelligence before he breaks out to help Captain Marvel, Spectrum, and Ms. Marvel would be one heck of a way to introduce him."

I can't see them doing this. A movie with an all female lead cast getting saved or only winning the day by a male character showing up at the end? No way in hell this happens.

@CorndogBurglar - thought the same. Only way I can see it happening is if the Marvels save Silver Surfer after having defeated the Supreme Intelligence

@CorndogBurglar - I normally would say you are exaggerating but that did seem to be the reasoning behind Doctor Strange not showing up in Wandavision, so who knows.
Anyway, if Silver Surfer shows up (I don't think this is the place or the time for that but it's still possible) and he is in fact appear in the third act to fight alongside the main characters I don't think he would be "saving them". Captain Marvel seems so overpowered that she doesn't even need Spectrum or Ms. Marvel for anything (apart from the movie needing characters with some personality lol).

@CorndogBurglar - Would be ideal if the Silver Surfer was being controlled/manipulated by the Supreme Intelligence into fighting Captain Marvel as the "bad guy" of the movie until Captain Marvel frees him/turns him. Surfer's power level may be the perfect match for Carol's, and a great way to introduce Galactus in the post-credits while using Surfer/Carol's fights to establish the Power Cosmic as on-par with the power of the Infinity Stones. Would then see Galactus become the next "big bad" after Thanos and introduce the FF in future movies.

@Deckacards - Especially if they have him turn against the Supreme Intelligence because of Carol's influence, help the Marvels defeat him/it, and then Surfer mysteriously rides off into space leaving us unsure of his intentions/status as a good/bad guy. Then the post-credits has him reuniting with Galactus who "hungers" with the absence of his herald. Surfer then tells Galactus he knows of a world (he's learned of Earth through his battles with Captain Marvel). The scene ends there, but the implication is that he is going to lead Galactus to Earth where the FF comics play out and we are introduced to Reed, Sue, etc. who will engage the Surfer and turn him against his master, as in the comics.

If they introduce the Silver Surfer I would think it’d be in the Marvels or Eternals 2. I’m on board for bringing in the Surfer, it’s just another step closer to introducing Galactus.

Or the film has nothing to do with the Silver Surfer and Marvel just has a list of alien names and species that scriptwriters take from when they need a minor character… like that woman who was on Quills ship at the start of GotG.

I don't think Surfer is in this one. But I hope he gets his own project soon either way.

Ha! And what a fun commentary on the status and future of the character. "Held captive" until freed by...Captain "Marvel"...

Would be a fun poke at the rights situation - held in film purgatory by another studio - until "freed" via purchase by Disney (aka "Marvel).
