THE MARVELS Star Brie Larson Explains How Captain Marvel's New Powers Created A Unique Challenge On Set

The Marvels star Brie Larson has revealed that the evolution of Captain Marvel's powers means she flies a lot more in the upcoming sequel, though it did present the actress with some unique challenges.

We first met Brie Larson's Carol Danvers in 2019's Captain Marvel, though Marvel Studios wasted no time bringing her into the Avengers franchise. Despite that, the hero played a relatively minor role in both Infinity War and Endgame, while a cameo in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings did little to explain Carol Danvers' place in the present-day MCU.

That all looks set to change with The Marvels, something that was evident from the Avenger's unexpected arrival in Kamala Khan's bedroom in Ms. Marvel

Carol's powers have also evolved since we first met her and, during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Oscar-winner explained the challenges of now having to take flight. That's an ability she unlocked during Captain Marvel's final act, and while the character has mastered it over decades, it was a learning curve for Larson.

"The thing about wires is that it looks really fun and it looks really beautiful, but it is uncomfortable even though it looks cool," she explains. "Let me be clear: it is amazing and very, very exciting but what's different with this movie from the first one is that Carol didn't fly until the end, so I didn't have as much wirework stuff."

"So, [with The Marvels] it was just like, a whole new muscle group that was in pain."

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta chimed in to say she'll have Carol flying "to the kitchen and the living room," and Larson acknowledged that it makes sense for the character to take to the skies as much as possible. "Of course, it's like, if you could fly, why wouldn't you? Why would I walk? I would fly. I'm just floating slightly above the ground the entire time."

It's definitely going to be interesting seeing how Captain Marvel's powers have evolved, especially when she's supposed to be the MCU's strongest superhero. In terms of her flying abilities, as there aren't many heroes who share that power in the MCU, that should be a lot of fun to see in this upcoming sequel.

The Marvels arrives in theaters on July 28, 2023.

@ScaryTerry - well when you think about it, it's not very common in the MCU. Most of those who do are assisted by tech or Mjiolnir or Stranges cape and the only people who can just casually float around by themselves are Wanda and Vision.

@ScaryTerry - title is somewhat misleading, even in the article. She did the flying end of the movie and also in Endgame, so it's not really new 'new' but the article puts it into some sort of context at apoiny.

It's how click bait works though.
