THE MARVELS Star Iman Vellani Reveals Alternate Ending And Shares Hopes To See "Improvement Within The Fandom"

The Marvels star Iman Vellani has revealed she originally shot a different ending, while also sharing her thoughts on the current state of the MCU fandom. Be warned, SPOILERS for the sequel do follow...

The Marvels has proven to be far from a box office hit and instead looks set to go down in history as Marvel Studios' least successful blockbuster. Analysts will spend a great deal of time attempting to figure out where it went wrong and Disney is no doubt pushing Kevin Feige to get the Multiverse Saga back on the right track.

Skipping the Captain Marvel sequel if you're an MCU fan isn't advised, though, particularly as it features an awesome ending with Ms. Marvel recruiting Kate Bishop to a team of Young Avengers.

Talking to Slash Film, actress Iman Vellani reveals that there was once an alternate ending which saw Kamala joined by multiple characters. She doesn't reveal who, and the plot leaks from this past Spring do nothing to clear things up as the sequence was supposed to be a post-credits scene (and wasn't shown to test audiences).

"There was another version where - does matter if I say it? There were more characters in it. I will not say which characters, but there were more characters. But that was way before we did additional photography. We knew we were going to get that scene. It was the last thing we ever shot on this film during additional photography. And so yeah, it changed a couple times. And I think what it ended up being, I think just Kamala and Kate Bishop is honestly perfect. They are so compatible."

"Hailee [Steinfeld] and I got along so well. She's such a fun human to talk to. And honestly, our back and forth, our banter was really funny, and I wish they kept some of that in there because that scene just kept going, Hailee and I just kept bouncing off of each other. So, I would be very excited if I ever got to work with her on a legitimate movie after this. So yeah, it's very exciting and I'm so honored that I get to be the one to bring this entire group together."

We'd bet on America Chavez and Cassie Lang being among them, but for whatever reason, Marvel Studios chose to leave them on the cutting room floor. The original scene is unlikely to ever see the light of day, though there's always a chance someone else involved with The Marvels will eventually slip up and spill the beans!

Elsewhere in this conversation, Vellani was asked about being a fan of the MCU and whether she believes there are any parts of it which need to be improved. Instead, the Ms. Marvel star shared her hopes that the fandom will chill out and perhaps judge Marvel Studios' recent misfires a little less harshly.

"I think a lot of things. I think not necessarily within Marvel 0 I think Marvel is very good about, they know where they go wrong, and they know how to fix it. It takes time to get there. I would like to see improvement within the fandom. I think people need to be a little more positive. These fandoms, the whole point of them is so that people who are passionate about these nerdy things, they can talk about it without being judged and can share their excitement with the only other people in the entire world who will reciprocate."

"So, it would just be like Marvel, they're growing and they're adjusting to the times, they're listening and responding to the fans' criticisms and feedback. So I think people just need to be a little patient, and let them cook. I think keep the fandom positive in the meantime, share what you are enjoying."

"Don't force-feed doom postings to everyone, because it's a lot to handle. Already the world is so going through a lot, Hollywood's going through a lot, Marvel's going through a lot. So it's just sad when fans throw wet blankets on anyone who's just trying to share their passion, their excitement, and love for these movies. At the end of the day, it's the movies that are made for people to escape real life, not the making of the movies. Who cares about how these movies are made? There's so many horror stories. Have you even read what happened on 'Wizard of Oz'? Just like, people, live your life, and then when you're ready for a little break, go see 'The Marvels.'"

Vellani makes some great points here and the negativity surrounding this movie has been a little disheartening to see. Marvel Studios has been more hit-and-miss than anyone would like late, but we're seeing them make moves to get past that and back to quality over quantity-style storytelling.

The Marvels is now playing in theaters.

Oh ffs. Gotta make it about the fans being too negative 🙄

Maybe don't make bad movies and call us trolls and bigots who are to blame for it.

@KaptainKhaos - film is subjective. It’s open to criticism just as much as it is praise. It’s amazing how people treat those who don’t like a movie like they’re committing a hate crime now

@KaptainKhaos - Bays Transformers films made a lot and people hated those, same for Twilight. Money does not equate to quality.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - yes, they can't take criticism 🤣

If you're talking about me, guess what? You can't make random people do or think the way you want them to. In this case, the only link we have to each other is being fans of their products. Normally when your customers don't like your product, you change it to what they like.

But now the thought process is that it must be us who's the problem for not being positive about their sh!tty films.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's because they immediately call us bigots for not liking them 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

@Origame - Stop crying because one actress has the guts to stand up to people like you. She is honest and admits Marvel could stand to improve. That's real criticism from a real fan. But even the worst Marvel movie is nowhere near the crap that certain "fans" put out into the internet. The shit I've seen from toxic fandoms over the years is so beyond awful, no movie could ever be so bad to justify it and I'm so sick of reading "muh, everything is shit, it's ruined forever, blah blah blah". It's always the same bullshit and noone can just talk about the stuff they love with likeminded fans without having to put up with these ghouls. Oh no, you didn't like a movie... Cry me a river you big baby.

comicfan100 - 11/14/2023, 5:13 PM
@Origame - Okay, I understand your reason for not liking Brie (even though I think the reason is overblown), but what did Iman and Teyonah do? Just seeing women lead a film sends some of these fans into a vitriolic rage and I think it's completely unwarranted.
Origame
Origame - 11/14/2023, 5:23 PM
@Drace24 - you don't f@#$ing determine what a real fan is! And no, she's sh!tting on her audience. And we shouldn't accept that.

Hollyweird needs to learn the hard way who's paying them. And oh, they'll learn one way or another.

Stop simping for a teenager. It's creepy.

@comicfan100 - and here we go again.

Dude, I don't hate teyonah. And I've actively defended Iman and admitted to liking her. But that was before now, when she decided to go against the fans instead of speaking as one, like she's done before.

@Origame - hopefully Alonso’s ouster and the ‘strong’ (negative?) reactions to some of the more socially topical cinematic releases will engender a course-correct from Feige and Iger

That all being said - Villani is not entirely wrong in this assertation.

At the end of the day, all of this boils down to ‘entertainment,’ with a capital ‘E.’

Origame - 11/14/2023, 6:02 PM
@SauronthePower - look, where was all this when the flash was bombing? We continued being negative towards that movie for weeks. Closest thing to positivity we really got was telling Josh "dude, it's been months. Why are you reminding us it flopped?"

Meanwhile the marvels is objectively a bigger flop, then all of a sudden its like "why can't fans be more positive?"

In the end of the day, this isn't about being positive. It's about not hitting at where we didn't think those blows would go.

We need to remember these are movies. Products. Stuff we are expected to pay with our hard earned money, that oftentimes is much less than these Hollywood big shots make. If anyone needs to be critical it's us. And if they don't like it, well sucks to be you. You chose to be in a job where you're in the spotlight. How's about making a better product?

You know who never complains about audiences and fans? Tom cruise and Keanu reeves. And you know two of the most beloved actors in Hollywood? Tom cruise and Keanu reeves.

@Origame - you make a lot of fair and good points in this

Where I think, and this is strictly personal observation, that Marvel gets a bit more pull, is in the fact that they have earned a bit more ‘rope,’ again, to my mind, to experience their peaks and valleys, both theough quantity and quality if overall catalogue

DC never even got on the right road to start with

The DCU unfortunately started from a bad equation and a bad movie (MOS was such a lost opportunity, again, to MY mind) that just snowballed downhill. Also, Ezra really didn’t help matters at all.

Brie surely, and rightfully, drew a lot of ire for her attempts to bully the narrative in 2019 but Villani has generally steered clear of all that. Ezra directly brought heat to his own flagship project

Also, it is VERY difficult to gauge anyone’s bromides against Keanu. Dude has legitimately earned his reputation as one of THE most generous, charitable, and overall nice guys in Hollywood

It is almost nigh in impossible for anyone to live up to THAT bar

That ALL being said, and I DO suspect that you will not agree with my take (let’s indeed call it a ‘take,’ and not a ‘justification’), I think that your ire on this would be PERFECTLY aimed at Kathleen Kennedy

As much as you may find fault with Feige and Iger, Kennedy’s bullsh%t ranks infinitely far worse
Origame
Origame - 11/14/2023, 7:36 PM
@SauronthePower - except that pull is clearly gone as the most recent film couldn't even outgross the flash. Honestly I think it's just we have fanboys here who can't accept the mcu is in shambles.

As for Keanu, yeah I do agree. No one is gonna be as well loved as him. But, you know, you can at least take notes. Maybe not to the point of just giving the stunt men of your movie Harleys. But maybe just the way he respects the fans. Hell, matrix 4 had a similar level of hate to it, but Keanu said nothing bad about the fans.

I will agree, Kennedy is easily worst. Honestly most of the anger is because Iman genuinely came across as someone too nice to stoop this low. Kennedy insults the fans? Fine, but that's also expected at this point. Iman does when she's even been willing to call out feige on even minor things like the mcu designation? That's rough.
