I'll start by saying how much I loved Smallville. It had its ups and downs, but for me they were mostly ups. This show has always been a hot topic on here, but I'm proud to say that I loved the show.

I just bought the digital comic for $0.99, and I see why it was so cheap. Why? Because nothing really happens.

Spoilers below...

It it basically a teaser for the series, and it does a good job of that. I just hope that all of the issues aren't like that, or else I'll wait until they release the paper version to collect them together.

It starts off with Oliver and Chloe outside trying to catch a glimpse of Superman, and with Lex (who apparently hasn't moved in the six month time frame because he's still standing in front of his office window) trying to do the same. Lex notices that he's changed his costume as you see a flash of red zoom past the panel, which is weird but at least they addressed it. There is a nice throw-back to the Donner-verse with Lex's new assistant Otis.

Then we flash to a Russian space station that is looking for signs of activity in relation to the previous alien invasion. Some kind of red lightning hits the station, and in comes Superman to save the day. He's changed his costume to the one we saw in the teaser pictures. He spouts a lot of corny lines, similar to Christopher Reeve in the movies, and then he's off. To be continued...

The art looks really good here. Superman looks like Welling in the costume, not that goofy-smiley shot we saw as a teaser. Oliver, Chloe, and Lois look close enough to their real-life counterparts, and Lex is dead on. The story sets up to show that there is a lot to come as well.

It just felt really short. Like really, really short. This was my first digital comic, so that may be usual for that price point, so I can't complain too much.

Also, the dialogue from Superman was a little to cliched. Hopefully they expand on this and give us the feel of fresh writing that went into the characterizations on the show as time goes on.

As for now I look forward to picking up the additional issues each week. The $0.99 price might not be so bad if it still costs around $4 for a full issue.

Just as long as they include Batman and Wonder Woman in it, since they didn't in the show. That is why I'm a little bit disappointed in the show. So, here's hoping!
