SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME's Jake Gyllenhaal To Star In Superhero Film PROPHET From EXTRACTION Director

A few weeks after signing on for the live-action film adaptation of Oblivion Song, Academy Award-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal has joined the cast of another comic book movie adaptation: Prophet.

The Studio 8 film, which has action extraordinaire Sam Hargrave (Extraction; Extraction 2) attached to direct, will adapt Rob Liefeld's Image comic book series of the same name and is being developed with the intention of launching a new franchise. Marc Guggenheim (Arrow; DC's Legends of Tomorrow) has been tapped to pen the script.

The story follows John Prophet (Gyllenhaal), a man who volunteers for a German experiment near the end of World War II in order to feed his family. However, after a bombing buries him alive and traps him underground for 20 years, he reawakens in 1965, where things are not great for Prophet. The world has moved on without him, his daughter resents him, and KGB agents are after him to create super-soldiers from his blood.

Gyllenhaal has been a busy man since appearing as Quentin Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio, in Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Far From Home, having signed a number of major projects, including Antoine Fuqua's The Guilty (now streaming on Netflix), Michael Bay's Ambulance (February 18), HBO's limited series The Son, the aforementioned Oblivion Song, amongst several other things.

@Cbmfilmjunkie - Let's not start with teams first. Give us a good Spawn and Savage Dragon then we can start throwing a bunch of characters at people who know nothing about Image comics.

@MyCoolYoung - I did

It was alright! I feel like Jake elevated it massively with his performance.

Speaking of Jake Gyllenhaal, I finally watched Donnie Darko. I liked it even though most of it probably went over my head.

@MasterMix - yea that one was too deep for my 12 year old brain at the time. Haven't watched since

This is an usual choice for a character to get a movie. But I do suppose with that plot line it could just not feel like a superhero movie at all. Get two audiences.

If anything, the action will be top notch since Sam Hargrave is one of the best in the business when it comes to directing action.

The project sounds fun, but for some reason neither Sam nor Jake feel like good fits. Hope they can convince me otherwise, because I like both of their work.

The Guilty once again proves that he can elevate a movie thats nothing more than a movie about a dude and a phone to something tense

The big question is will his feet look alright?

I still have my Prophet/Image comics stored away. I'd like to see Chapel introduced in this.

I had some hopes that Jake could nab some important role at DC. Meanwhile, we have Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/Flash.😏 Oy vey.
