AvX: Was Cyclops really right?

There has been a lot of buzz about how Marvel's blockbuster event of the year, Avengers VS X-Men, ended. Some say Cyclops was right, but most say the Avengers still Won. Here's what I think...

The reason I'm writing this article is because I recently came across this image:

Now personally, I don't agree with this and in all honesty I have never been a fan of cyclops. I never had a problem with him, he just didn't intrest me as much as I feel he should've. When Avengers vs X-Men (or what should have been called "Marvel Universe vs Scott Summers") started, my opinion on him went down. His bossy, stuck-up attitude just annoyed me.

Everyone knows that the Avengers thought that the Pheonix Force would destroy the world, and the X-Men thought it would bring the mutants back from the brink of extinction. In the end, a new generation of mutants was born, saving the species, hence this whole Cyclops was right thing. Ok, maybe Cyclops was right, BUT... so were the Avengers.

Before the mutant race was reborn, Cyclops (using the Pheonix Force) was gonna destroy the world, just like the Avngers said. He even told us he was going to. This just proves that the Avengers were just as right as Cyclops was. Some of you may be thinking, "But if the Avengers hadn't have gotten involved, Cyclops would never have become Dark Pheonix anyway. Hope would've become pheonix instead and would't have gone on a rampage and tried to destroy the world." Maybe but, when Cyclops had the chance to give hope the power in #6, he tells her she doesn't deserve it keeps it for himself.

The power was never meant to be his, and this is a mistake the will eventually lead to him going crazy, and again, trying to destroy the world. If this article still hasn't persuaded you that the Avengers were right too, maybe this will: "That's the thing about the Pheonix. There always has to be destruction before the rebirth." - Scott Summers, Avengers Vs X-Men #12.

Sound off in the usual place...

Here's the way I see it. Scott knew there was a chance that the Avengers were right and even Hope couldn't control the Phoenix. He was willing to risk the lives of everyone on Earth in order to "save the mutants."
A) Even if the mutants were in as dire a situation as Scott made it seem, the small mutant population was not worth risking the lives of every person on Earth for. (including humans and mutants)
B) The mutants weren't exactly in danger. Sure, after House of M, their numbers were very small. It's not like they were dying off though. The whole philosophy of equality is based on the idea that mutants are pretty much just like humans, except they have powers. Some of them lost their powers, but they didn't die. Mutants just became an extreme minority. Cyclops kept making it seem as if mutants were like Native Americans and they were all going to die out. Mutants aren't a united people. They're scattered all over the world within lots of different groups. These people could go on living their lives for the most part. I haven't been reading X-men over recent years, but Cyclops and everyone on his side seemed to have abandoned the idea of coexistence and bought into a more Magneto-like "mutants as a distinct group that is special and separate from everyone else" ideology. While all the mutant-hating people in the world screamed at them "You're not like us," Xavier calmly said "We're really all just people." Scott abandoned this.

You say the Phoenix Force was never meant for Cyke, yet the Phoenix could have left him at any time, but didn't.....

I think this issue goes along with an a piece I am currently researching for this site. My argument is that Tony Stark in the greatest Villain in Marvel history. I'll expand on that more in the article, but I will say that almost everything he touches turns to ash.

@BIGBMH - I agree as well. Over the years, Cyclops lost the innocence that he and the original X-Men had in the first place. By the time that AvX happened, things had become so complicated that he lost himself in their petty struggle.

The way I see it, it's not a question as to why the Avengers faced him, or if Scott was right all along. Scott Summers was out of line, and the Avengers were the hand of justice.

@Hothead you might want to read what you write before you publish it... Or learn grammer. Either way that paragraph hurts my head.

@BIGBMH

They were a dying people. After the decimation every single one of the x-men's enemies took the chance to start killing the now de-powered mutants and actively attacking the ones with powers. So no, they really couldn't go on with their lives. Their numbers dwindled to about 180 and then they were chased onto an island to live out the rest of their days. Then the villains that they hadn't taken care of focused all of their efforts on killing the remaining few. Scott did what he had to do to change things. No one else was going to.
