CONSTANTINE & MADAME X Shows Both Dead At HBO Max In The Wake Of Sequel News

While this should come as no surprise, especially with J.J. Abrams producing the movie sequel, it's been confirmed that neither the Constantine nor Madame X shows are moving forward at HBO Max.

Following last night's bombshell sequel announcement, Variety has confirmed that neither the Constantine TV series from J.J. Abrams nor the Madame X show from producer Angela Robinson will be moving forward at HBO Max.

Per their report, only four scripts had been written for the Constantine series, which would've been set in contemporary London. There had been early negotiations with an actor for the leading role, but once plans for the long-awaited movie sequel came together, talks presumably fell apart.

While neither series will be coming to HBO Max, sources are bullish that both could potentially be revived at a different network or streaming service. Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot Productions are reportedly actively seeking a home for both shows, but it's too early to say whether they'll be successful in their endeavor, especially with Warner Bros. Discovery seemingly taking their DC slate in a drastically different direction.

In case you missed it, it was reported last night that Keanu Reeves (John WickThe Matrix) and director Francis Lawrence (I Am LegendRed Sparrow) would reunite for a sequel to their 2005 supernatural thriller hit Constantine, which is being fast-tracked and has Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful MindI Am Legend) penning the script. He's also attached as a producer under his Weed Road Pictures banner, alongside Bad Robot's J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella.

With Abrams attached to the movie, it was somewhat expected that the TV series would not be moving forward, so it'll be interesting to see whether he'll actually pursue bringing an unrelated version to the small-screen or pivot to something else set in the Justice League Dark corner of the DC universe.

Sounds like a business move.

Fund the sequel to the one was non faithful, but still a good adaption.

Cancel the other stuff before they have the chance to ruin it. Lol.

Eh, who doesn't like more Keanu.

@UnderBelly - Yeah I think the biggest selling point is Keanu lol

*Sigh* What's worse is that apparently Comcast is interested in buying Warner Bros. Discovery when the ink hasn't even dried on THAT deal yet.

@FlixMentallo21 - We're gonna have only 2 media groups controlling the entire industry soon

@dracula - isn't his superman movie still happening? or could it be scrapped later considering DC's new plans...

@IvanBadski - It's not happening...but I did like the leaks that came of the script. It did read like it was going to be a pretty good movie.

Meaning like with arrow having to switch out blue beetle for atom (seriously they couldnt use him because of a movie in development and the movies is out after arrow is over and atom isnt even around anymore)

Removing Johnny C from Legends and replacing him in Sandman was now pointless (although Joanna was great)

This Constantine was total trash. Bullet dodged

Was really looking forward to that Hellblazer show. The Keanu movie was good, but not great. Plus I’d say John’s required to be British. Looking forward to any non CW Constantine stuff however so I’m definitely still happy something’s happening.

I always preferred WB or Disney, but they just cancelled Looney Tunes and the movies they had planned with them. So [frick] WB! They let go of the teams already. Looney Tunes was one of the best reboots EVER.
I really like Keanus movie, but this is the time to get comic accurate interpretations finally. I just dont get wtf theyre doing over there.

They pretty much banned Matt Ryan from continuing to portray his take on Legends for notihng in the end since this other TV show wasn't ever going to move forward.

WB is full of dumbasses even before Discovery merged and made them even more dumb.

Not interested in Keanu's version much, sorry. At least not right now.

Hopefully, SOMEHOW, this penny pincher of Zaslav is made to understand that people today can enjoy multiple versions of the same character without sabotaging the other.

@NinnesMBC - i mean hindsight's 20/20, sounds like sope dirisu was in talks for the role on the max show so it was at some point close to happening

Matt Ryan have a great take on Constantine. Not a fan of how the Legends writers treated bis character in the final seasons, but his Constantine will always be the definitive Constantine for me.

This news really has put on display a lot of hypocrites around the internet who are loving this news after slamming the ideas of Sope Dirisu or Jenna Coleman as Constantine. Like that movie changed more about Constantine than anything else attempted or rumored to be attempted.
