I recently re-watched the Original Star Wars trilogy and noticed a scene in the Empire Strikes Back where Obi Wan says to Yoda that Luke is their last hope to which Yoda replies that there is another. Now I’ve seen this countless times and I realize that he was probably referring to Leia or maybe even Darth Vader but I my mind still started thinking. What if there was someone else alive that could end the Empire. Now this person would probably be related to the Skywalker family and very strongly in tune with the Force, and from that I came up this idea.
During the Era of the Empire, the Emperor was the most powerful man in the Galaxy and his greatest weapon was Darth Vader. Knowing that the Sith Lord would not last forever he tried to replicate him failing every time. After the destruction of the second Death Star (Insert the villain of the Sequel trilogy) found a secret Empire base and in there a clone chamber containing a baby dubbed VADER-2. At the beginning of the Sequel trilogy the young Vader Clone (about the same age as Luke during the original trilogy) has become one of the most powerful Sith to ever walk. Episode VII would basically be about Old Luke finding him and trying to turn him to the Bright Side of the Force.
I think the relationship between Luke and the clone (whom of course would have name like maybe Damon) would be very interesting and original because they would have 3 different dynamics.
1) A mentor thing with Luke trying to teach him respect and maybe going as far as a father and son relationship with Skywalker being the only father figure to the apprentice and for the first in his life someone, caring about him.
2) A brother thing similar to Obi-Wan and Anakin.
3) A father and son link as Luke sees him being his chance to know and save his father, someone he barely knew.
Imagine scenes like Luke and the clone seating near a campfire and discussing which side is the best with Luke even saying at some point that he’s father realized that he was wrong to late and he doesn’t want him to commit the same mistake. So many strong scenes could be written out of this.
While the idea of redemption has already been done with Darth Vader this is a great opportunity to deeply explore the concept. If Luke were to die at the end of Episode 7 than for example we could see a conflict between the protagonist with the promise to not let in the anger but having to hunt the killer at the same time. This is something we’ve never seen in Star Wars, a villain trying to become better but having to face the problem at the same time. It could also lead in to an incredible finale in Episode 9 with him facing the enemy and having to move on without killing him. This would be an amazing arc that could set the theme for Episode 8 of the lead going on a journey to let go, something that could equal the Empire Strikes Back.
This idea would fit in with the characters from the Original trilogy, having Luke be the mentor in the first movie that would set him in the right path, Han being the mentor in the Second Entry if he was to join the army (Opening the door to scenes like the Hope trailer from the Old Republic game) and giving him advice on redemption, and Leia, one of the leaders of the New republic, teaching him to let go of the rage in the Finale. Another character that could appear because of this premise is Lando though I think it would be best to have his nephew or something like that as a major supporting character, a soldier that becomes a friend of Damon in the second movie after seeing him help other people.
Also for the first time in the series the protagonist would be a master from the beginning focusing more on the differences between two sides not only in beliefs but also in fighting styles and pratices rather than on the ways of the Jedi.
For the part of the clone I would choose Darren Criss. He's a good actor with a right build, certanly better than Hayden Christensen and Mark Hammil during both's first movie but more than anything he has that kind of face that makes him seem like a nice guy at first but if you look closely you see a cold serial killer (like Jacky).
