Characters from DC that Deserve a Movie

Characters from DC that Deserve a Movie

Assuming the WB executives pull their heads out of the sand. I list a selection of interesting DC characters that I believe warrant a solo movie.

We all know WB rolls out the CBM's at a turtles pace. Assuming by about 2035-ish?, when they are done rebooting Superman and Batman over and over again. At that time they've already made a solo movie for all the remaining top tier characters/JLer's, ie Flash, Wonder woman, Aqua man. I compiled a list of some DC's most intriguing second tier characters that I feel deserve a chance at the big screen.

SPECTRE

The Spectre, is a cosmic entity and the physical embodiment of God's vengeance on Earth. Permanently bonded to a human soul, he uses his incredible divine powers to punish the truly wicked, usually ending his victim's lives in creative and ironic ways.

A Spectre movie thats similar to the dc showcase short would be very cool!

DOCTOR FATE

Doctor Fate, considerably the greatest magic-user. From the realm of magic who act as agents of the Lords of Order in the battle against chaos, using the powerful Amulet of Anubis, Cloak of Destiny and Helmet of Fate. Kent Nelson was the original, given his powers by Nabu and residing in the Tower of Fate in Salem.

So many possibilities with Fate! Traveling between dimensions, fighting physical and spiritual beings, visually I can imagine some amazing special effects.

SANDMAN

Sandman, is the legacy name of several different characters in the DC Universe. The original was Wesley Dodds, a Golden Age vigilante who wore a gas-mask and used a gun that put people to sleep. Vertigo's Sandman was an ongoing series crafted by writer Neil Gaiman which introduced the mythology of the Dreaming and all its denizens to the DC Universe.

The Neil Gaiman series would be fantastic!

MARTIAN MANHUNTER

Martian Manhunter, also known as J'onn J'onzz and John Jones, is a superhero from the planet Mars and the last surviving member of his race. A martian holocaust killed his wife and daughter, nearly driving him mad, until he was brought to Earth in an accident caused by scientist Saul Erdel.

Following J'onzz's origin, damn, even the war with the white martians would make a cool movie. Not to mention getting to see the Manhunters powers in action.

DEATHSTROKE

Deathstroke, is Slade Wilson, highly decorated and trained in special services combat, volunteered for a military medical experiment designed to increase resistance to truth serums. The experiment appeared to have failed when it had the side effect of crippling it subject. After months of hospitalization Wilson's condition changed for the better and he gained enhanced abilities of both mind and body.

Deathstroke is just to great a character not to get a movie.

HAWKMAN

Hawkman, is a winged vigilante who fights crime using a flight harness made from Nth metal and a mace. There have been several different versions of the character, along with love interests and partners such as Hawkgirl and Hawkwoman.

The Hawks are definately under rated. A film on earth or Thanagar would be epic.

CAPTAIN ATOM

Captain Atom, is Nathaniel Adam, a United States Air Force officer of the Vietnam War era who was framed for a crime he did not commit and sentenced to death. As an alternative to execution, he was invited to participate in a military experiment with little chance of survival, in exchange for a presidential pardon. The experiment involves testing the hull of a crashed alien ship's durability by exploding a nuclear weapon under it. Adam survived as the metal melts into his body and the excess energy throws him to the modern day.

A Captain Atom origin movie would be cool!

ZAURIEL

Zauriel is an angel of the Eagle Host of angels, one of the four hosts of Heaven (Eagle, Human, Bull and Lion). Since the dawn of creation, Zauriel served The Presence as a guardian angel, protecting the souls.

A movie at biblical proportions! Zauriel is cool and how he comes to work with the Justice League is even better.

GRIFTER

Cole Cash was a con-artist after his family passed away, after his life was exposed by his brother and he was abducted by monsters he decided to take control of his life in a different direction and become Grifter.

My favorite character from Wild Cats is now in the DCnU. Grifter could make a great action flick.

NIGHTWING

Dick Grayson realized at that point that he had grown up: he no longer relied on Batman and, in fact, he and the Dark Knight disagreed on crime-fighting methodology. When all his teammates were captured by Deathstroke the Terminator, and delivered to the HIVE, Dick assumed a new identity of Nightwing and helped to free them, with the help of new ally (and future Titan), Jericho.

With a Batman cameo, it'd make its budget easy. Nightwing could be a action packed, fast paced movie.

GREEN ARROW

Green Arrow, is a vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, technology and martial arts. In his secret identity he is liberal politician and billionaire Oliver Queen, a hot-headed social activist and owner of Queen Industries.

Whatever happened to that prison break script? That sounded good.

THE QUESTION

The Question is Vic Sage, vigilante protector of Hub City. He is a great martial artist and detective, an investigative reporter in his civilian identity. The mask he wears to disguise his face is made of an experimental material called pseudoderm. Sage is driven by a deep personal quest for philosophical meaning, which has taken him through both objectivism and zen; in some versions he is portrayed as a paranoid conspiracy theorist.

Something a la x-files meets law and order would be cool.

ZATANNA

Zatanna, is one of the greatest magic-users in the DC Universe. Her father is the legendary magician Zatara and she works hard to live up to his legacy. The traditional method of spell-casting she uses involves speaking words and sentences backwards. In addition to her career as a hero, she is also a very notable stage performer.

Zatanna's hot, and now that the Harry Potter franchise is nearly done, there's lots of room for cooler magicians to take his place.

These are my top choices. Including the particular outfits that I'd prefer to see. What do you think? Any other ones I may have missed. Who would be your top choice? I'd like to add a poll of my list but I don't know how. Ahem Editors..

Here's my list:

1. Wonder Woman
2. The Flash
3. Nightwing
4. Aquaman
5. Green Arrow
6. Hawkman
7. Deathstroke's pretty cool, but I know nothing about the character, so IDK.

I like Martian Manhunter and Zatanna, but I don't think either have enough potential to carry their own solo films.

I agree with your post 100%. I would like to see an Azrael movie too. Present Azrael as a noble crusader who is betrayed by the order if St.Dumas and swears revenge. Something like wanted but alot more sword action then curving bullets. Having someone shoot Azrael but see him move swift enough to cut the bullet in half would be sweet.

@mikekus34 @dromeo
Gaimens took his name, both versions are based on a similar concept and both are cool. Don't be so uptight.

Personally I'd love to see a Spectre or Dr. Fate movie first. Both characters have so much backstory, depth, and intrigue. Dc oughta hand the rights of em over to marvel. At least they'd get something done with em'.

I'm studying to be a film director and if I could direct a DC film I would love to make a Martian Manhunter movie. I would make it faithful to the comics and awesome for audiences not familiar with the character.

Definitely a Booster Gold & Blue Beetle movie would be something i would go see or possibly star in.

The failure of Green Lantern to make a dent in the Batman/Superman stranglehold on DC films all but ensures most of these will probably never see the light of day. The best option would be to combine Dr Fate, Hawkman, Sandman etc and make a "Justice Society of America" movie. I think the Smallville "Absolute Justice" arc laid down a pretty decent blueprint, and Dr Fate was definitely the stand-out character.

Thanks

@caedus137
Ya to bad they made dr fate such a pussy in that episode. No way he could be taken down that easy, I don't think Superman could take him. Plus the costume was horrible and the actor's obese body strained the outfit lol.

Really? I thought the costume was alright! A bit bold, but decent nontheless...
