Dragonball Z-The Way It Should B

Dragonball Z-The Way It Should B

What happens when you cross a weak script with weak casting? You get 'Dragoball' Evolution. Every one of those 80min (is this even a movie?) was painfull to watch as a Dragonball fan. I decided to utilise all the power granted to me by CBM (ooooooh) to post my own version of the cast. Chances are that none of these actors will ever headline a DBZ movie(which probably wont happen either thanks to 'DB'E. However it was fun to do and my social calender was dry so why not...

The Z Fighters
Goku

The HERO. Goku is a powerful and hardworking with a bubbly personality(like Brendon Fraiser but not gay). There are two ways in which to approach the casting of Goku. Number One- You cast an Asian actor. I am fully aware that just because its Anime it doesn’t mean you need an Asian. Goku is alien last I checked. However the largest fan base is Asian and an Asian actor would suit this type of title role. I choose Tony Jaa, he’s talented, famous and in the most heterosexual possible way of saying this-he’s one ripped dude!

The alternative for me is James Franco. Sure that greedy, overly/milked Spiderman franchise is not a positive to his credentials but that poor script was not his fault. His ability to act both serious(as he was in spiderman) and laid back(as in pineapple express) are good reasons to vouch for him.

Piccolo

I need a green actor with point ears! This is why you don’t cast based purely on looks. Chances are you wont even recognize the bloke! Djimon Hounsou is a solid option. He’s creepy, strong and has a wicked voice. These are qualities of the Namekian soldier.

Tien

Tien is focused warrior. He demonstrates care and determination superbly. Before Season 3 of Prison Break there was a fantastic show. Dominic Purcell played the innocent and caring older brother. He has a large build to match Tien and he just needs to change that buzz cut to clean shaven. He is as much a tough guy as Tien is. He doesn’t need to be a fantastic actor, just a very serious one!

Yamcha

Yamcha is the spare wheel in the Z Fighter wagon. Yes he has a cool hairstyle and has that cool guy attitude but he’s not exactly a character that requires an oscar winner to play him. I’m going with charismatic the Shaun Sipos. He’s young, has the right vibe for a Yamcha and is practical. I don’t see a reason for him not to be Yamcha! Plus he'l do a better job than that tool from DBE whose name i dont care to remember!

Yajirobe

Ah we have the funny, supersized douche! He has that classic “I’m a total jerk and I couldn’t care” attitude! Think about Superbad and Night at the Museum 2, Jonah Hill played this sort of character. I’m aware he has the voice of a screechy teen but I think he’d work to make sure he meets the wide expectations of Yajirobe. He’s a funny dude so that’s all that really matters. Hair tonic will solve the hair issue!

The Other Good Guys
Master Roshi

I was horrified by the over-acting by Chow Yun Fat in DBE. Master Roshi has an important role. He’s the mentor and comic relief to the show. The actor for Roshi would need to be able to play a pervy old dude in shorts who lives by the beach. Doesn’t this sound a bit like Charlie Sheen? Hollywood will make him look older so the age isn’t a problem. We all know he’s got the acting chops and this character is a mould of him.

Bulma

The blue haired babe of DBZ. With her stubbornness, changing looks and temper she has become synonymous with DBZ. I have two actors capable of this kind of roll. Firstly there’s Zooey Deschanel. A talented actress who I think could rise to this occasion. She’s cute, funny, clever and can show that temper well.

The other option is Michelle Trachtenberg. She’s capable of diverse rolls and playing Bulma means changing everything from moods to hairstyles! She’s got the comedy resume and I really believe in her ability to capture Bulma’s essence.

Chi-Chi

The ultimate in uptight mothers. This is a small role but an easy one to mess up give the erratic performance required. I chose Yunjin Kim because she’s got talent enough to guarantee not screwing up! I haven’t seen much of her temper but she’s talented so id bank on her. Plus I’m a huge LOST fan so I really wanted to cast one of the Oceanic flights passengers in the movie and short of casting Jorge Garcia as Yajirobe, I just couldn’t find a spot!

Ox King

I didn’t have to cast an Ox King but I just saw the opportunity to exploit Robbie Coltrane. He’s got the same lovable-oaf style ,when he plays Hagrid, that is needed to play Ox King.

The Saiyans(oooooh)
Vegeta

No matter who I cast here I will be criticized. Thus I decided to look for the most controversial choice possible, just to stir things up. Too much focus has been on selecting a good looking actor to play Vegeta when the script tells us that he wasnt exactly a hunk. When I wasn’t drooling over Elisha Cuthbert in the Girl Next Door I noticed a real Bad Ass. He had that rough and tough arrogance that’s I could see in Vegeta. Forget the disastrous Hitman movie and Timothy Olyphant is the man for the job! There aren’t too many short actors in Hollywood unless you’d have me take Tom Cruise, reduce 15 years from his age and make him into someone who isn’t a douche! Olyphant could carry the attitude of Vegeta superbly and he’s even got that look about him(widows peak included).

Nappa

Nappa’s role is more important than most think. He shows the audience the brutality of the Saiyans and how different Goku really is. I think a good actor is absolutely necessary because with ought Nappa there is no yard stick. I watched American History X and was witness to a truly ruthless character. Edward Norton could be the perfect Nappa as he can play the part of a psychopath and his talent ensures he does it well! He may be a little small in stature to play the colossal Nappa but Hollywood takes care of that!

The Namek Baddies!
Frieza

A villain makes or breaks a movie. Like Heath Ledgers superb Joker stated, it is the villain that completes the Hero. Thus I have three options. Mads Mikkleson- in Casino Royale he played the eerie and flamboyant Le Chiffre. Frieza is also extremely flamboyant and yet he could give you nightmares with his persona. Mikkleson is a sure fire talented performance.

Cillian Murphy played the scarecrow in the first and second Batman flicks. I don’t think Cillian Murphy can be anything other than creepy. He gives this very eerie vibe off and I think that he could really carry out Frieza’s manner well. He may not be as purely talented as my other two candidates but no risk, no reward!

This one wont please everyone. Ralph Fiennes played an outstanding Lord Voldermort, like the Harry Potter franchise or not! Voldermort is the very meaning of evil, as is Frieza. I would attend any movie with Ralph Fiennes as a villain because I know he makes very good one!

Captain Ginyu

The uber whacky commander of the ‘fearsome’ Ginyu Force. His crazy antics included (extremely gay) poses and body switching. I can think of only one man capable of playing whacky very well and he is in my opinion the most bankable man in Hollywood. Ladies and Gentleman- I choose Robert Downey Jr!

I could not find a suitable Krillen or Raditz. Gohan was extremely young during these saga's and my youth scouting has been poor.

Thank You For Reading This. This Is My First Ever Post So I Hope You've Enjoyed It! Let Me Know What You Think And Perhaps Il Do A Final Casting.

The cast is really good. Well thought out.

But Tony Jaa as Goku doesnt really work for me so i would go with Franco or even tom welling.

But DUDE! Norton as Nappa! RDJ as Cap Ginyu! Talk about underplaying their acting abilities. For one Norton would not work as Nappa and RDJ is too good of an actor to play cap ginyu, he would never accept the role.

Thanks mate. Nappa has an important role, far more important then meets the eye. He is the only example of a classic saiyan. Raditz is too weak so he only represents the lower class. Goku is Goku. Vegeta, while being ruthless, demonstrates clarity at times as well as rational thinking. he knows when he's outmatched(most of the time). nappa is a pure, unthinking, ruthless brute! thats why i wanted a very good actor. Nappa's role is crucial in showing the audience a saiyan.
i like RDJ as Ginyu. I chose him because i love those moments when you watch a movie and when its over you think about it, and after a few moments your like..."HEY! That was ?????". Given that RDJ's face wont be recognisable i think it will be cool when the audience see's Ginyu and goes "OMG ITS ROBERT DOWNEY JR". i dont think he'd mind just doing a small part because Captain Ginyu is a character that would be fun to play.
But thanks for the help, i appreciate it.

I can imagine Toby Kebbel as a Gínyu force member...
Brendan Fehr/Jason Behr as Raditz
Michael Rosenbaum as Krillin
Taylor Kitsch as Trunks...

I like ur cast alot but I think Charley Sheen as Roshi is sort of dumb Master Roshi should be Asian I think Ken Watanabe would be good in that role. I like ur Vegeta choice but I think he should be a little younger Ian Sommerhalder and Norton as Nappa seriously he is a shrimp Nappa has to be huge I would cast Steve Austin. Overall good cast. Fiennes would be a better Cell in this universe and Murphy is the best choice for Frieza.

In general, I really don't see how they could even make a movie work, what with the battles lasting numerous episodes.

As for the cast...

Tony Jaa can't speak English, IIRC. I guess Franco would be an alright choice.

Djimon Hounsou as Piccolo: sure why not?

Timothy Olyphant as Vegeta is actually rather inspired. Nice one.

Jonah Hill = HELL YEAH!

Zooey Deschanel can be a cute Bulma.

Cillian Murphy's not playing anymore villains, so NO to him as Frieza, one of the most tedious villains in the series.

So I'll give you some props for this.

@superbadspiderman-the last time they pick an asian dor roshi they picked Chow Yun Fat who was horrible! Thats why i went with Sheen who has great box office appeal! Steve Austin is a wrestler and therfore the equivalent of a sopa opera star. Hollywood can make anyone look big, i think he'd do a swell job!
@Mark- il be sure to have a gander!
@Mistress- Some props is better than none i guess...:) Frieza is probably DBZ's most important villain, he shows the viewer how much was required of the warriors to overcome evil. He also sets the benchmark for other villains as youu often hear the others being compared to frieza.

All and all thanks for the support, im happy(and surprised) that my vegeta has been well recieved! Not too bad for my first cast:)> THANX ALOT

@TheOneWhoRoseUp: You're welcome.

But seriously, Cillian Murphy's career has way more to it than the Batman movies. Watch 28 Days Later, Breakfast on Pluto, The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Sunshine and this short film he made with Feist called The Water. He can play non-creepy characters and dare I say it, very tender parts too. I really can't stand seeing good talented actors being pigeonholed into a certain role based on just one or two performances compared to the rest of their really good careers.

fair enough, i did watch the wind that shakes the barley. i just think he plays creepy well.
