Spider-Man: Thrill of The Hunt
Peter Parker/Spider-Man- Reece Thompson
The opening sequence of the film is set up as a comic strip going through the live action photos of Peter gaining his powers. Like The Incredible Hulk, I feel like the origin is well known. Everyone knows how Peter becomes Spidey and the story of the death of Uncle Ben. Regardless if the public reads the actual comics or not, they know the story. The first Spider-Man films let everyone know. As the comic strip comes to an end, we find Peter sitting in his old room at the end of his bed. While dressed in an all black suit and eyes filled with tears, Peter stares blankly at a photo of his beloved Uncle Ben. Peter and Aunt May have just buried Ben. As Peter breaks down he thinks to himself the words his uncle always made sure he remembered, "With great power, comes great responsibility." Thus Peter begins to create the monarch of Spider-Man.
Uncle Ben Parker- Treat Williams
Although a smaller part in this film, Uncle Ben will serve a much larger influence. Ben will be shown in certain flashbacks throughout the film. Being a steady voice of wisdom within Peter's conscience.
Aunt May Parker- Janet McTeer
Aunt May, obviously, plays a pivotal role in Peter's life. She is, in a way, his "mother". His source of advice throughout said life. Though she is not aware of her nephews masked vigilante alter ego.
Harry Osborn- Hunter Parrish
Peter's high school friend and now roommate at Empire State University. Peter idolizes Harry's father Norman for all of his scientific and business oriented achievements. Harry feels a tad bit of animosity towards Peter because of his father's favoritism towards him and not Harry.
Norman Osborn- Iain Glen
The creator of Oscorp and ruthless business mogul. He has just purchased the "new" Daily Bugle. A dying newspaper compared to their rival Daily Globe. He has a love for Peter. Mainly because Peter is what Norman wants Harry to be.
Just a quick photo to show you the Osborn family resemblance. I feel like the look of these two characters is distinguished in the look of them. Especially as father and son.
Gwen Stacy- Emily Browning
Gwen is introduced as Peter's new lab partner in his first class at Empire State University. Ironically, it's in the brilliant Dr. Curt Connors course. Gwen takes a romantic liking to Peter, despite his lack in advancements. Being the awkward nerd, Peter has absolutely NO clue of her feelings towards him. Which creates a bit of tension.
Capt. George Stacy- Ed Harris
George Stacy is introduced to the film via dinner in his home with Gwen and Peter. Peter asked Gwen if he could interview her father for his opening article with The Daily Bugle. The article pertaining to the new "villain" of New York City.
The Daily Bugle:
J. Jonah Jameson- Stephen Lang
The disgruntled and often angry publisher of the Daily Bugle. He does not approve of Spider-Man OR his newspaper being bought out by a crooked scientific businessman in Norman Osborn. To add fuel to the fire, Jonah also has animosity towards Peter since Norman forces Jonah to hire the young college student.
Joseph "Robbie" Robertson- James Pickens Jr.
A full supporter of Spider-Man and his heroic antics. Robbie isn't a fan of Norman's buying The Daily Bugle like Jonah, but takes a liking to Peter.
Frederick Foswell- Jeremy Davies
The lackey of J. Jonah Jameson. He will do WHATEVER is asked of him hoping to move up The Daily Bugle totem pole. But having an obvious disgust for his boss at the same time.
Betty Brant- Zooey Deschanel
Jonah's secretary and the girlfriend of Jonah's favorite reporter, Ned Leeds. She has an obvious attraction for Peter.
Ned Leeds- Ryan Kwanten
The boyfriend of Betty Brant and Jonah's favorite reporter. His discomfort with Peter and Betty is obvious. He's a jealous person and especially careful of his beloved Betty. Not to mention where his "reputation" could lead him in the future.
Eddie Brock- Cam Gigandet
A newly hired reporter for The Daily Bugle. Eddie claims to have been "laid off" by The Daily Globe. But it is later discovered that Eddie was fired due to his anger issues. He meets Peter in the elevator going to The Daily Bugle offices. He is, like Peter, interested in science. Eddie's first article is wrapped around the study of limb re-generation by Curt Connors.
Supporting Characters:
Dr. Curt Connors- Greg Kinnear
Peter's brilliant and prestigious science professor. He is the "matchmaker" of Gwen Stacy and Peter. Curt is introduced to Eddie Brock via Peter Parker since Eddie is so interested in Dr. Connor's study of limb re-generation. There, Eddie begins to work in the lab of Connors part time.
Ben Urich- Hugh Laurie
Urich doesn't enter until the ending parts of the film. The scene starts with Jonah sitting at a desk, with Urich entering through his door. Jonah says to have brought Urich in from Hell's Kitchen because he needs someone "real" to cover the "superhero mess" running wild through New York.
Mary Jane Watson- Renee Olstead
Introduced via her Aunt Anna, a great friend of Aunt May. Mary Jane and her aunt are not introduced until the ending scenes of the film.
Anna Watson- Candice Bergen
Aunt May's oldest friend. She comes to visit Aunt May towards the end of the film while bringing her niece, Mary Jane, along. Announcing Mary Jane's enrollment into Empire State the next semester.
Randy Robertson- Jordan Calloway
No significant part is played throughout the movie. The son of Robbie Robertson and a college friend of Peter's.
John Jameson- Scott Porter
Again, no significant part is played. The son of Daily Bugle publisher, J. Jonah Jameson.
Mendel Stromm- Raymond J. Barry
The business partner of Norman Osborn. Mendel's story is that he attempts to embezzle funds from his partner. But is caught and slapped in the state pen for years. Once released, he creates a robot army to attack Norman. But is stopped by Spider-Man, suffering a heart attack in the process. Although, as a plan B in case of his death, Mendel created a technology that placed his brain/brain waves into a robotic body. In this film, Norman decides to take the whole embezzling of funds into his own hands. Post credits, the scene cuts to Norman placing a gun to the back of Mendel's head. But before pulling the trigger, Mendel begins to convulse and have a heart attack. Seeing this as his out, Norman leaves him to die. Not realizing the technology developed by his intelligent and clever partner. Setting a cliffhanger for the villain in the next, or future, films.
The Villain:
Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven The Hunter- Jon Bernthal
Once a world renowned game hunter, "Kraven" now resides in New York. Broken down and having lost everything. His wife, his fame, his name, absolutely everything. He is of Russian descent but was raised in the harsh areas of Africa with his mother. After seeing the new found hero that is Spider-Man in The Daily Bugle, Kraven sees the Spider as his opportunity. His opportunity to reclaim his "name" as the world's greatest hunter. Kraven sees Spider-Man as his greatest kill. He begins to stalk Spider-Man, following him throughout the city and eventually finding out his identity as Peter Parker. Kraven then begins to attack the ones Peter loves the most in order to draw "the spider" from his "web". Inevitably, though, Peter defeats Kraven. But rather then killing him, Peter lures him into the custody of police. Before the police arrive to capture Kraven, he says to himself "I'd rather die then be caged like an animal," and commits suicide.
