FAN-ticizing: 15 Characters I hope To See In The AGENT CARTER TV series

After the success of the Peggy Carter short, Marvel has been working on giving Hayley Atwell her own show. Assuming the Agent Carter TV series does get picked up, here are some characters I would really like to see make appearances.

2014's TV pilot season has got me stoked! Never before have we had so many comic adaptations on the small screen at the same time. One of which I am especially optimistic about is ABC's Agent Carter series. As you should know Hayley Atwell will be reprising her role as the lead and that she will be accompanied by Dominic Cooper in the role of Howard Stark, co-founder of S.H.I.E.L.D. In addition the pilot was writen by none other than screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stehen McFeely who are responsible for the recent masterpiece Captain America: TWS.

In anticipation for what is almost guaranteed to be awesome I made a list of 15 characters I would like to see make an appearance on the show. I tried to stay away from the obvious ones like the Howling Commandos so without further ado here it is...

15. Ulysses Bloodstone

Ulysses Bloodstone is the adopted name of an ancient hunter turned adventurer, soldier of fortune and monster hunter after contact with a fragment of the mystic Bloodgem rendered him virtually immortal. He lived for well over ten thousand years.

14. Dominic Fortune

David Fortunov was an adventurer, whom fought against the Nazi's during World War II. Under the alias of Dominic Fortune he became a hero for hire in the late 1930's. He was first somewhat of a charmer and took everything lightly, pretty much Marvel's version of James Bond.

13. Phantom Eagle

Phantom Eagle fought alongside U.S. forces during World War I. Member of the Freedom's Five. His real name is Karl Kaufman and he is simply a normal human with ridiculous piloting skills. He is also a decent hand-to-hand combatant.

12. Azzari the Wise

The Black Panther and King of Wakanda during World War Two, who befriended a young Steve Rogers. He is the father of T'Chaka and S'Yan making him the grandfather of T'Challa, Shuri, and T'Shan.

11. Jimmy Woo

During the 1950s, no FBI Agent had as distinguished a career as Jimmy Woo, the prime agent involved in battling the villainy of the Yellow Claw. Reborn 50 years later he is now the head of the Atlas Foundation and the Agents of Atlas.

10. Rebel Ralston

Rebel Ralston's one of the Howling Commandos and a United States Senator. Robert periodically helped Nick, Dum, Eric, Gab, Izzy and Dino in during their time in World War Two. He was later part of the formation that became known as the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D.

9. Whizzer

As a child, Robert Frank was attacked and bitten by a cobra. Believed poisoned, his father injected him with mongoose blood believing it would serve as an antidote. The transfusion kick-started his latent mutant power and as Robert grew into an adult he became the speedster known as Whizzer.

8. Patriot

Jeffrey Mace aka Patriot took up the mantle of Captain America following the original's disappearance and presumed death during the war.

7. Doctor Nemesis

Dr. James Bradley is a "self-evolved" mutant super-scientist, co-creator of the original Human Torch, and a former Nazi hunter. He is well-known for his acerbic wit, immense arrogance and love for all things scientific.

I'm not sure if Marvel has the rights to him considering how close he is to the x-men but I think he would be really interesting for Peggy to interact with.

6. Jim Hammond

The very first Marvel Superhero. Jim Hammond was the first Human Torch and actually an android created by Professor Phineas T. Horton.

Personally I think it might be a bit difficult to fit an android into the MCU during this time period which is why I suggest maybe merging him with Toro.

5. Major Mapleleaf

Louis Sadler was a Canadian superhero during the second World War. He gained super strenght and near invulnerability through an unrevealed process which may have extended his lifetime. He is, apparently, Canada's first metahuman. Basically a Northern version of Captain America.

I'm sure most of you might not care to see this character but I think the whole fact that no one really knows how he gets his powers is so interesting... Or maybe I'm just biased because I am Canadian lol either way he's on my list.

4. Miss America

Miss America was a Golden Age hero and part of the superhero teams the Invaders and the All-Winners Squad. Her real identity is Madeline Joyce a wealthy teen heiress who through ridiculous means obtained super powers.

I can imagine a lot of tension between Joyce and Peggy. For Miss America to work in the MCU her origins would definitely have to be altered. She's way too powerful to get her powers by accident.

3. Blonde Phantom

The Blonde Phantom is a masked crime-fighter and detective from the Golden Age of Marvel Comics. Louise Grant Mason was a member of the Avenger 1959 team, working alongside the many contemporaries of that time.

She would serve as an incredible rival for Peggy.

2. Namora

Daughter of an Atlantean man and surface woman. The Golden Age hero Namora is cousin to Namor and, like him, is one of Marvel's first mutants. She is currently working under Jimmy Woo with the Agents of Atlas.

I really have issues with Namor and Namora being virtually ageless which is why I would alter their origin somehow so that Namora is there during this period and Namor can be in the present. Again assuming Marvel has the rights to them.

1. Spitfire

Spitfire is the daughter of the Howling Commando, Lord Montgomery Falsworth and sister to Union Jack, Brian Falsworth. Lady Jacqueline Falsworth-Crichton has the ability to run at superhuman speed. While running she leaves a trail of non-damaging fire behind her.

I can totally picture a story arc in which Jacky and Peggy are besties but Jacqueline eventually gets taken hostage and experimented on, giving her her abilities.

So what do you think of my list? Who would you like to see on the show? Sound off below :)

I think they should retrofit Yelena Belova to be the Black Widow of that era and she would ve one of the first active HYDRA moles working for Zola and possibly Zemo

Anyone from the first film for sure. But also Isiah Bradly. Conspicuously left off the list. Also why not Put Hank Pym in the show as a young man. Also Asgardians, all of them. You know 1 or 2 will make an appearance. Then of course Hydra villains. The Original Von Strucker as well as helmut Zemo. And don't forget Master Man. You could also have a young Nuke before the transformation to super soldier. I feel like this show has a lot more room to move. And it can show the eventual infiltration of Hydra. I think it should end with Stark's assassination.

Also they can't use Namor, he's likely owned by FOX

THE GEEKSIAH SPEAKS!

Namor is licensed to Universal. see http://maxcdn.fooyoh.com/files/attach/images/1068/566/157/012/marvel1.png

That said....
Isiah Bradley would be great for the show as would Sersi from the Eternals who was active back then and Union Jack.

You know, I appreciate the fan devotion that led to this list, and I have nothing against the author or the article itself... but god DAMN, this list just hammers home the reasons this Peggy Carter series is a really bad idea.

This line-up is really, REALLY sad. Marvel's World War II-era superhero line-up was pretty damn pathetic, save for the big three of Captain America, Namor, and the Human Torch-- which is all the more depressing when you realize that Marvel Studios doesn't own the rights to two out of those three characters (Namor's rights belong to 20th Century Fox, and while the '40s Human Torch isn't the same character as Johnny Storm, they'd have to jump through a lot of hoops to keep from stepping on Fox's toes if they wanted to use him...).

And as for the rest... jesus. Dominic Fortune? Major Mapleleaf? The Whizzer??? Marvel's assortment of characters prior to the Fantastic Four are about as low-rent as you can get. The only one that I'd be curious to see is Miss America-- a half-baked "female Captain America" character with a generic look and power set who would never actually get to interact with Captain America. Not exactly a strong endorsement of the concept.

Of course, all of this is assuming that the Agent Carter series will even feature cameos or supporting roles for Marvel characters from the time period-- an assumption we KNOW isn't founded in any sort of fact, from the S.H.I.E.L.D. T.V. show airing right now that has access to Marvel's entire contemporary library of characters (give or take the X-Men and Spider-Man), and yet whose highest-profile featured comic character is Deathlok.

Anyway, I can't get too excited about the prospect of an Agent Carter show, just because the World War II and post-WWII era in Marvel history is by far its weakest, and also because Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. floundered so badly for the first half of its debut season. But then again, S.H.I.E.L.D. has rebounded in the last five or six episodes (especially after the events of Winter Soldier), and Agent Carter shouldn't be nearly as hemmed-in by the need to fit in with the events of upcoming Marvel films (since none of them would be set in the forties or fifties, presumably)... so if this show gets off to a decent enough start, I'll probably give it a watch.

Oops, my bad-- apparently Universal owns the rights to Namor, not 20th Century Fox. Sure, that doesn't make any sense, but when have intellectual property rights ever made sense (seriously, how can both Fox AND Marvel own the rights to Quicksilver)? Thanks, ProfessorX!

Young Hank Pym (since he's older and retired when we catch up to him in Ant-Man. Maybe the Pym particles slowed his aging which would explain why he's not a super old fogey and just a regular old fogey in Micheal Douglas), the original Human Torch (at least in a cameo or shout out. He could be deactivated in a crate and I'd be happy to see him acknowledged at least), and Zola (being brought in as part of Operation : Paperclip and foreshadowing his [SPOILER] appearance in TWS).

Isaiah Bradley HAS to be on the list! Consider: an experimental process, devised by a German scientist. A defector, but one the US still doesn't fully trust yet. A process that could kill the subject, or worse. During a time in America where African-Americans are considered second-class citizens at best. No way they give Rogers the needle first -- "try it on the colored guy, let's see what happens to him! If it works, THEN we find a suitable white candidate."
TheSavorings
TheSavorings - 4/21/2014, 12:04 PM
I'll toss in Nick Fury's grandfather so there could be a shut out/cameo for Sgt Fury and some foreshadowing of Nick down the road. Have Sgt. Fury say something like "If I were running this place things would be different." to which Peggy or Howard Stark reply "But you're not." with Fury mumbling "Not yet at least...".

@EMDUB: Isaiah Bradley?

... Okay, that's actually a really cool idea. Seriously, if they used this series to introduce him and no one else, I would be entirely on-board with it. That would be such an interesting character to explore!

This whole "Marvel Studios can't use the term 'mutant' is really getting old. Namor/Namora are owned by Disney/Marvel Studios. The fact they can't call them mutants is meaningless to putting them onscreen. In my opinion, there's no reason to even call Namor a mutant in the Marvel (Studios) Universe. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver on the other hand... Yeah. That's going to get a but confusing.

@Retrofit- Agents of SHIELD gives us characters from the comics though. Deathlok was a favorite of mine back in the early 90s. Don't forget the episodes that connected with the cinematic universe. The new show won't be able to do that, but I'm certain they will make up for that. Of course not every episode will be on the edge of your seat action, but it will have it's fair share of exciting episodes. Don't criticize the show before you even see it.

@BlindJustice:
Not being able to use the word mutant is not a problem for Namor. There's something like forty years of stories about him without him being a mutant (when was he changed, somewhere in the nineties?). It certainly never came up in the stack of Defenders I've got. The only reason they did make him one retroactively is to get some money from the X-Men fans, not because it made sense or he needed it. He's an Atlantean half-breed, there, done.

I think it goes without saying that the howling commandos that were in the 1st movie would come back, so long as the actor wants to, so Falstaff and Dugan would be sure to return, I would hope

Curious about how they will play out the stories on this show, since the audience knows HYDRA is in the background, but they won't make themselves known for 70 years. This could be like the first 16 episodes of AoS all over again -- but without any payoff.

I suppose they'll ignore HYDRA completely in favor of other Big Bads.

"I think it should end with Stark's assassination."

I've pointed this out before, but that would mean this show needs to be on the air for almost fifty years. Howard died in 1991.
