How I would like the Batman reboot to be handled

Just my thought on the way the reboot should be done.

For the record, this is my first editorial, and English is my second language,so please don't be to harsh.

First of all let me start by saying that I love the Nolan Trilogy. I think it's the best comic book movie trilogy and even one of the best trilogy in movie history. If Nolan would do other Batman movie, that would be the best thing, but with the end of Rises and the comment Nolan made, it's pretty clear he won't come back... And Batman being the cow milk it is, WB will for sure Reboot it, so here one way I would like it to be done:

The tone:
Keep a dark tone for this. Continue to ground Batman in reality. Keep it in a real city, no shitty cardboard box City like Burton or Neon Greek statue with road on building like the crap form Schumacher. Make Gotham feel like Nolan made it, it was a good way. But still even if the city look real and Batman is grounded, don't be afraid to use sc-fi or fantastic element. Best way to describe the tone his the Arkham's games.

The costume:
The New 52 costume is the best one to use i think.

It mix the Nomex\Kevlar costume form the Nolan series but also have the gray and black colour from the comic that was never use in live action.

The story arc:
Instead of basing the story on a trilogy, it should be based on six movies. yes it's a lot but the Batman mythos will have the time to be fully explored.

Story of the first:
Set-it in the year three. No origin story or just some flashback, but not like The Incredible Hulk. Batman is still this mythical character that criminal fear, that cop don't relay work whit, except for Jim Gordon. The first one should be more crime based, like Carmine "The Roman" Falcone has the main antagonist.

The Roman crime industry could be downhill since The Batman arrival in Gotham. We could have a veary cool flash back from the Year One:"Ladies, gentlemen, you've eaten well. You've eaten Gotham's wealth. Its spirit. But your feast is nearly over. From this moment on, none of you are safe." So the Roman want Batman out, I could hired like Deadshot(leading to Suicide Squad Movie?).

Whit another hired assassin, maybe like Firefly or KGBeast. But the most important thing to focus on: Dick Grayson. Dick should be introduce in this movie with inspiration from Dark Victory and All-Star Batman and Robin. Dick should be like 16 years. His parents should die at the end of the first act. Batman would see himself in the young boy, and with a impulsive act, take him in the batcave when he foud Dick trying to kill Tony Zucco. With Batman thinking be like in Frank Miller All-Star Batman and Robin, were he want Dick to be a even better crime fighter than him, so if he can star train him now that would give him almost 10 year of training more than Batman. Only have Dick Robin a the end. No bright coloured costume.

If you like this, I will do the 5 other movies.

...and please WB / DC, give it at least five years before you reboot, because if you don't and it underperforms next to Nolan's trilogy - you are only going to be di$appointed and look for a rebooted reboot (like The Incredible Hulk).

Flog Batman to death on the silver screen when you haven't touched 98% of the potential in the DC Comics Encyclopedia (character-wise) and you will regret it.
Get a masterplan in place like Marvel did and has and build on it.Take you r time and do not try to compete with Marvel's schedule because if you do you will only have more still-born franchises like Green Lantern and the aborted WonderWoman tv series on your hands.

Yeah World's Finest would be way more interesting than JL, but they have to reboot Batman first cause Nolan done with Bats and they won't continue in his universe.

I've never understood why people who want the Batman series to be rebooted want the first film to start a few years after Batman starts being Batman and the biggest villains are mob bosses and perhaps a hitman or two? This isn't bashing anyone in particular, but simply pointing out that this is the idea for many reboots I've seen.

It just doesn't add up.

1) We all know the reboot is going to be compared to Nolan's films so comparatively Nolan's Batman was able to fight that crime war from the beginning, subduing a lot of the big bosses. That means everyone's reimagined Batman would already be far less impressive based on how long it takes him to do something simply accomplished previously.

2) I think Nolan was on to something (although it did follow a typical movie plot) where Batman needed a higher purpose to become Batman. Sure, he was a crime fighter and all, but stopping the likes of Scarecrow and Ras al Ghul was more along the lines of superhero. Point is, if you want to start Batman out as a legend, this superhero we all know and love, even if it's toward the beginning of his career, then you'd have to skip over the introductions of some already big players. The unfortunate thing about that is that if one were to ever bring those characters into the story post-first reboot you would have an inconsistency with character since the audience wouldn't know who the villain is, but Batman would have had full knowledge of them. And I don't think that should be the case for any villain, especially in a new Gotham (maybe in a replica of Nolan's or any past film).

3) Any and all introductions would become inconsistent. He would already have the Batmobile, unless you'd rather him not drive for the first few years? He'd already have his weapons, although there's the chance he might experiment on newer things- the basics (and probably the more classic a.k.a. the ones we care about) would already be covered. While we might not need some in-depth scientific explanation to it all, I think the introduction of this sort of thing serves best for establishing a new surrounding/universe.

4) There might even be a sacrifice in character development. Bruce/Batman is already a good dynamic, but if we all insist this more investigative Batman come into play then that would change the makeup of what general audiences know to be as Batman's onscreen presence. Just like Nolan used the League of Shadows to introduce the concept of Batman to the audience, whoever explores that new (and rather essential) side of Batman will have to introduce the concept of detective.

Basically, anything that doesn't trail off of past films or starts its own imagining is subject to a smaller dimension of Batman, one that could sell well for Batman lovers, but not for movie lovers.

As for the suit @FriendlyJoShFest has the idea. Like the New 52, but not exactly. I say black and dark grey, but I wouldn't go with all the armor-ish appearance. Not to say Batman shouldn't have armor, but I feel each character should have their personality blended into their overall appearance. The way Superman's suit is Kryptonian, Batman's should be one that he designs himself. I never liked that Fox said it was a government prototype somehow implying that there weren't plans and patents documented for it (which, if you know government anything, that's definitely not true), taking away the fact that Batman is one of a kind. Give him some badass, armored, high tech gauntlets, and armored boots. High tech belt. But most importantly, the suit should be something Bruce creates on his own. Not a Tony Stark kind of thing, but one where he experiments with compounds and finds a thin substance that resembles a kind of spandex-like look, but stops knives and small firearms. You could even enhance the plastic look (as I'm sure that's how everyone imagines the spandex look) by adding "plates" that outline the different sections from the New 52 suit and possibly refer to something more scientific where those plates are essential for refracting force. The idea here is that Bruce has to invent the very Batman-esque features. He shouldn't be able to go to Fox and be shown a gauntlets that for some reason conveniently projects razor sharp blades. He should take an armored material and develop it into his own gauntlet. Similar to how Fox showed Bruce the cloth that would be used for the cape. It wasn't already a cape. Bruce made it so.

The reason I'm so adamant about a thin suit is because each of these superheroes has a certain fighting style. Just for comparison, Superman doesn't need to be agile, though fast, because he could barrel through an enemy and be a heavy hitter. Batman on the other hand is very much mortal, so his agility has to be pretty high up there. Not to mention his expertise in martial arts. So together, that means the new Batman (as all Batmen should have been) should be able to move quickly as if to seem superhuman. I hated the bulkish nature of every onscreen Batman because (while some fight scenes were really cool) I just couldn't help but think, "why's Batman so slow? why's he not be being strategic?" They used KFM for Nolan's films, which was cool but only to explain how Batman trained for those specific close quarters fights. I never got the impression that Batman was the top level martial artist every character bio lists him as.

These, and many more things, more pertaining to story than character, are the only way a new Batman is going to ascend Nolan's films. If not, it's not going to get enough distance away from past interpretations.

Good article... I too believe this is the way they should go. Definitely Robin should be introduced in the reboot. The death of Dick Grayson's parents will mirror Bruce's & is a chance to touch on Bruce's origins without doing another origin story.
I feel the reboot should focus alot more on his detective skills as well as his ongoing issues with his parents death. Thats one of the things I didn't like about Nolan's interpretation. Bruce has got real issues, he's battered, bruised, almost to the point of dying and still won't let up. Yet in Nolan's version he retires for 8 years, comes back only to retire for good..
I would love to see the entire Batfamily explored in a serious way on the silverscreen. If not in a TV series.

The tone of the reboot should continue to be dark & gritty, but not so reality based so as to include some fantastic elements of the Banman lore (I think TASM captured that tone pretty well)
The city should be realistic like Nolan's, bu definitely needs some Tim Burton elements... Gargoyles man! We need to see batman perched atop some gargoyles...

I like the way you're thinking. Looking forward to your ideas on the other 5

I like the idea, so far. Something I would like to see is a more familiar villian, like the Penguin, begin to muscle in on the gang territory.

Batman needs a damn rest before the character is burnt out.

CGI-scan Bale (which I'm sure they've done already) and do a CGI (final fantasy-style)tv series expanding Batman's world into the fantastical with villains like Killer Croc.

I'd tune into a weekly hour of Batman (which per series could have arcs of different villains). They could even stick a CGI Bale into an Arkham City or Batman year-one type of show.

But please, no more movies for a long time. The character needs a damn rest and nobody s going to top Nolan and Bale's Batman on the silver screen this decade.

Long running multi-million dollar Tv series then Batman Beyond or Arkham City at the movies afterwards.

Not cardboard sorry I meant matchbox. And not as realistic Nolan made it but still pretty it need to much feel real like what they did with the MOS from what I have seen in the teaser, set in real world but with sc-fi.

[frick] no it shouldn't be grounded, yes it should definitely have the dark tone. But whats point rebooting something if your just going to be like the previous incarnation. the only thing that should be grounded is the aesthetics and the characters. Mr Freeze as the Villain, dudes one of the most tragic villains in Batmans rogue gallery and he got raped in batshit and robin. If Bane can be avenged then so can Mr Freezr, although Bane still ended up as the Henchmen in TDKR.

Batman is a character rich with action, drama, emotional, and psychological content. It should be re-booted in it's entirety (including the origin story)from the beginning made for TV. Movies are nice, but it's nearly impossible to know the character and the rest of the mythos in a 2.5 hour sitting in a movie theater. Not only do you have Batman, in is complexity, but you also have his well known relationships with Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Cassandra Cain, & Damian Wayne. LOL...that's just the Batfamily. If the series of Smallville can run 10 years into the life of Clark Kent prior to Superman, can you imagine what Bruce Wayne's would be in his career as Batman?

If I had the power I would get into the minds of WB/DC & make it happen (concerning Vanquisher's comment). This is what should really be done. There's been 7 live action Batman movies. Maybe another trilogy would be overkill. Save Batman for Justice League film & create a series from origin, straight up to Damian Wayne becoming Robin
