BATMAN Video Game To Be Revealed At DC FanDome; New Details On HARRY POTTER Title Revealed

Reliable sources have now confirmed that a new Batman game will be revealed at DC FanDome in August, while plenty of new details have been revealed about plans for that upcoming Harry Potter title...

Bloomberg has shared a report detailing some of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's future plans. For starters, they confirm that the leaked footage from what appeared to be a free-roaming Harry Potter game which leaked online back in 2018 was indeed the real deal.

The big-budget title will reportedly allow players to take control of a wizard Hogwarts to explore both the school and surrounding areas (likely Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest). It will be an open-world, free-roaming game, and is being developed by Avalanche Software for a release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X next-gen consoles sometime in 2021.

The original plan was to unveil it during E3, but plans changed due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. That hasn't changed its release date, though, and the site's insiders point out that author J.K. Rowling has very little direct involvement in the game (which will come as a relief to some following what many perceived to be anti-trans comments shared by the writer on Twitter).

This report also confirms that there are plans in place to officially reveal a currently untitled Batman game during the DC FanDome event in August. The Harry Potter title, meanwhile, will be made official shortly after. Needless to say, both of these will be well worth keeping an eye on.

Which are you guys most excited to get your hands on?

@DCRISEN0609 - Yes and it will be interesting to see if the new batman game is a reboot or remaster.

the remaster can be a cheap upscale to 4k, a rebuild of the graphics/texture only (similar to modern warfare or shadow of colossus), or its a full reboot of the game similar to RE2, RE3, FF7:Remake.

Hopefully its not not a repacked telltales game or VR.

@mastakilla39 - They wouldn't be working on a remaster for this many years

@mastakilla39 - it’s 100000% not a remaster.

Arkham Asylum + Arkham City were already remastered, not to mention that it wouldn’t take 5 years for Rocksteady to make a remaster.

Also, this game will be a soft reboot focusing on a playable Bat Family (the game is called Gotham Knights) and there will be a big focus on the Court of Owls

@Doomsday8888 - yep, seems likely! I heard there might be a couple other major factions as well, but not sure which ones

@DutchCipher - true.

I find remasters as a whole to be pretty pointless, since all they do is give a fresh coat of paint without fixing any underlying issues.

They’re a waste of resources imo, remakes are the way to go. If you’re going to bring an old game back, do it the right way: rebuild the graphics from the ground up with modern tech, address any broken/unwieldly/outdated mechanics and UI, add in any content that was scrapped from the original game (assuming it was scrapped purely due to budget/time constraints rather than low quality), etc.

2021's gonna be a big year for Batman between The Batman, the Snyder Cut, WB Montreal's Batman game, the first look at Keaton (?) in Flash and some of his villains showing up in The Suicide Squad

Are we ever going to get a Superman game. I love Bats, but he’s been done to death game wise.

@ClarkFarley2012 - i agree on batman but i really dont think superman can work. Maybe as an indie project thats all about being powerful af but a full aaa game i just dont see that working. Either itll be us losing that sense of power early on and its just another infamous/prototype clone with flying, or you're just op for 50+hours which is boring.

@Origame - If video games with OP characters like Kratos and Dante can work, so can a Superman game.

@soberchimera - How are they OP? Their only powers are hand to hand based. A Superman game would have to integrate the flight and heat vision and maybe even arctic breath.

@Origame - While I agree I can’t imagine how a Superman game would work let’s not forget it was a common sentiment that an amazing Batman game was near impossible before Arkham Asylum came out. It can be done it’s just that no one has cracked the code yet

@soberchimera - they're really not that op. Both kratos and dante needed to work up to defeat their enemies.

@Origame - Who in the case of Kratos are literal Gods. Fist-fighting a god and beating him to death is still really OP.

Making a good Superman game isn't actually that tricky. Forget about the 'sense of power' bullshit. That's not what Superman is about in the comics, why should it be what he's about in a game? Its a fundamental misunderstanding of the character, this pervasive idea that he's all about power. He's not. Give us a good story, throw him against some of his villains who can actually stand up to him in a punch-up - Zod, Darkseid, Kalabak, Lobo, the Furies, Parasite, etc. - and its easy. Throw in Metallo with some Kryptonite attacks, LexCorp bots with sonic weapons. A couple of magic wielding opponents. There are a LOT of villains who can potentially floor Superman. Its nowhere near as hard as people pretend it is.
Origame
Origame - 6/29/2020, 4:08 PM
@OptionFour - i mean not entirely. The point of superman is to show the best man ever. And a huge part of that, the one thats going to be the focus of a given game, is the power.
OptionFour
OptionFour - 6/29/2020, 4:27 PM
@Origame - Its really not though. The best Superman comics, the ones that are universally praised, are about his failures, his struggles, and him -almost- losing. Just like Batman, or Wonder Woman, or any other comic character. Its the same reason his most popular villains aren't the ones he easily crushes and make him look perfect. They're the ones who challenge him, who have beaten him in the past, and might do so again. No one is reading Superman comics to read about perfection, and when people say that it really makes me question if they've read any of his comics since the Golden Age. He's not about that and hasn't been for at least fourty years.
Origame
Origame - 6/29/2020, 4:41 PM
@OptionFour - i never said perfect. I said best. Being the best doesnt mean he doesnt experience flaws. You want proof of that, watch the movie race.

"author J.K. Rowling has very little direct involvement in the game"

That's weird. She wrote details on 150 wizard trading cards for the first 2 games. It was great world building. She gets involved in those but not a game as big as this? Strange.

But the first 3 Harry Potter games will always be the best! They were influenced more by the books than the movies and it really shows!
